I am forever gobsmacked at how many people sign contracts without reading or understanding them. NEVER sign anything to do with your home or anything big without hiring a LAWYER! When we were building our house, while walking the property, the contractor tried to get us to sign a BLANK "Commitment to Proceed" form! I told him to please fill it out and send it to us, then we'll have our attorney look it over. You could see his panic. He kept saying " It's a standard form". I said "I'm sure it is, but I'm sure you can understand that this is the largest purchase we'll ever make so it would be foolish not to have our attorney go over everything." Blaming your foolish decision to sign a contract when you know you can't read is ridiculous. Sorry, but thats life. Nobody forced her to sign this. I don't think it's predatory. They are just counting on people being uneducated and foolish enough to sign a document without reading it or understanding it at all. Frankly, I think they are teaching a lot of people a lesson. I can see if they were being deceptive but they weren't even being deceptive. All the terms were right there in the contract all she had to do was read or get someone else to read it for her. She is just someone who blindly signs things without thinking twice about it. I don't know who's worse in this case the marine or the old lady. Never ever go through a private company promising federal grants, instead if you need help contact your state's department of agriculture. That is the bureau that handles federal home improvement loans/grants and will put you in touch with an agent from the department that will help you apply for and find any available resources. Private companies like this are solely interested in profiting off of your desperate situation.

And if a person is elderly, your parents or grandparents please help them because we have very bad people out here.
