We stayed here in 2001 for a family reunion long weekend, during that time my mom became very ill and had to be admitted to the hospital. My dad needed to stay for an extra 7 days….When management found out the reason, they let my dad stay those 7 days for free! Luckily my mom was able to return to Michigan, but was never fully back to her old self. So for them taking care of my dad…I will be forever grateful ❤️

Didn’t get around to watching this until later in the week. So much fun! I remember seeing the Tropicana when my parents took us to Las Vegas in the 60s. And later in the 90s Spi and I went to Vegas and saw a Folies Bergere show. As I remember it was “family friendly.” Thanks for the memories! ❤️

No curb appeal at all. In fact, there is nothing inviting in the curb appeal. That ceiling is beautiful! The background and history you provide makes your videos stand out, to say nothing of your filming and editing! I loved Paula’s presentation about the iconic show girls. Thank you so much for this tour.

I spent my honeymoon at the Tropicana in 1979 and I remember I loved the coffee there. Also all we heard for 3 days was a voice over the speaker on the casino floor saying, "Paging Fred Domaney, Fred Domaney. This was before pagers or cell phones. When we got home and turned on the TV, Charlie's Angels was on and they were at the Tropicana! Guess what we heard in the background noise? Yep. Somebody calling Fred! We thought that was hilarious!

These videos always make my Sundays all the more special. I loved going to the Tropicana back in the early 90s and enjoyed seeing those, now vintage, photographs. I can't wait to get out to Las Vegas at the end of this month, it's been a couple of years since my last visit.

This is the first of your videos we’ve watched in a while (have been pursuing other interests, watching other TH-camrs etc.), and I have to say it’s great to be back. The quality of your videos is just astonishing: camerawork, research, music, narration, personal anecdotes, photography, editing - everything! I can’t imagine how long these videos take you two to produce, but we are very grateful that you do so. Thank you once again! xxx

When we lived in Vegas in 1980 the Trop was our go to Casino; it had a locals casino vibe at the time and was a lot of fun. We particularly liked the lounge show at the time which was a full on take on The Blues Brothers band called The Brothers Revue. Very entertaining

Oh Guys, just a Fabulous tour ; complete with Memories and an 'inside' look at the famous 'Follies Bergere!' I remember the 'Lido de Paris' show at the old 'Stardust;' I saw it the year after I returned from my 'all expenses paid vacation' in the RVN back in 1970! Thank you so very much for the terrific work on the old 'Tropicana;' your 'blog' should be included as a part of old Las Vegas history for everyone to enjoy. I'm only sorry Paula was way too YOUNG to have joined Kathleen and Maggie as a Vegas Showgirl!!

Great video, and the showgirl segment was AWESOME and brought back some fond memories for me. In 1993, my mom and I made a trip to Vegas and saw Folies Bergere, and our tickets included a backstage tour in the afternoon conducted by one of the showgirls who would be performing that night.

Great video on the Tropicana and Showgirls. Nice trip down memory lane. I believe it was early 1990s the Tropicana had laser shows outside where they had colorful lasers on the face of one of the hotel towers. It was nice for a family to enjoy.

Wow! 100 degrees! It is 64 degrees in Salem, Virginia as I am watching this video. We have had a good deal of rain lately, but today it is sunny and cool. I love hearing Dale tell his wonderful stories. I could listen all day! Dale McKenzie himself is a big part of Las Vegas history. Wow...I just love the vintage photos and Las Vegas history. It definitely has lost some curb appeal. I have never understood the theme of the Tropicana, until you explained it to me. The stained glass ceiling is nice....I have never paid any attention to it. The grounds look nice. Not a bad looking pool. Let's hope Bally's brings the property back into the forefront. I did not realize there were so many great looking restaurants and shows at Tropicana. Very cool Kathleen. What a beauty she was and is! Wow great history on the Show Girls! Thanks Paula. Sweet! Virginia!

Wow, I was in Vegas just two weeks ago and I went out of my way to visit the Trop ... just because. Little did I know it was going to change ownership so I guess I can say I was in the Trop when it was the Trop. Cool! That was a highly informative production and the review on the showgirls was top notch. Thanks for all your efforts in putting this out, it was no doubt a labour-intensive endeavour. I'm looking very much forward to your next masterpiece.

I really hope Bally's does something good with Tropicana. I feel bad, though, because, even though it's such an iconic Vegas property, I hardly ever go there. I make a brief walk through the property maybe once every two years or so. I know for a fact that I haven't set foot in the place in 2022. The last time I was inside was a quick walk around the casino floor during summer of 2021. I remember it distinctly because it had been one of those blazing hot 112° or 113° days, so it was still well over 100° at night. Instead of my normal route of going through NY-NY when walking from MGM Grand to Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay, I decided to use Tropicana instead. There was a quite serious 2 vs. 2 fight going on between drunk men at the base of the escalator leading up to the pedestrian bridge from Tropicana over to Excalibur. That was one of the first times when I realized how rough the Strip was getting. I went to Robert Irvine's Public House the week it opened, and Robert Irvine was actually walking around the dining room floor talking with people. That was the only time I ever ate there because the my entire group felt there was nothing special with the food. (On a side note, the poke nachos over at Public House - unrelated - at Luxor are still the best nachos that I have ever had in my life. I still don't think the A's are going to build a new ballpark on the Tropicana site, but I am hoping Bally's does an excellent renovation/expansion of the property that will draw me there more often.

I loved this video especially the show girl tribute, I was lucky enough to see City Lights (Lites?) I think it was at The Flamingo in the 90s and Jubilee a few years ago, it was becoming rare to find a traditional show girl cabaret. Folies Bergere was featured in an episode of Charlie’s Angels at the Tropicana back in the day 😊

Great video! Next time I'd love to learn more about the convention space, if it's still there. I took my mom and grandmother there to be in the audience for a taping of Let's Make a Deal w/ Wayne Brady in ~2009. Their studio seemed to be constructed in the "old" convention space which we also had to walk through.

Great video! Loved seeing that old map. I remember when Excalibur and Luxor were brand new and there was a show with Merlin fighting a dragon in the moat and a Luxor boat trip experience along the "Nile". Those and the pirate show at Treasure Island and the Volcano at the Mirage made for good excitement! I'm returning in mid-November for the first time in decades and wondering about temperatures in the casinos? Do they blast heat or keep it cool? I tend to be chilly and like to wear a sweater but don't want to be roasting if the heat is turned up. We are going for a week at the Palazzo and it's hard to know what to pack. I'm Canadian so used to the cold weather, lol.

Just wondering Paula where you like to shop. We have a trip booked for March 5 2023. Staying at the Flamingo for a week. I like shopping and will have the time. You guys are always so informative. And I have watched most of your videos. But, besides the Christmas shop at Belligio you rarely mention your favourite stops to shop.

Hello! Thanks for watching, and for asking for my recommendations! We have featured several shopping venues on our channel, I think they are in the Attractions & Destinations playlist.
On the Strip, you will find the more affordable stores at Fashion Show and Miracle Mile. I enjoy both! For high-end eye-popping shops (but great ambiance), go for Wynn Plaza Shops or the Forum Shops at Caesars, or even Crystals. And, take a look at the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North - terrific afternoon outing! Happy shopping! 🛍️

Dale matter of factly mentions the removal of features. Each time, it diminished the experience at the Trop. They did have the wisdom to remove or cover up the traces of what was there except for the swim up blackjack. This is what is making the Rio look so shabby these days, the darkened remains of what used to be. I wish that Bally's would incorporate the Tropicana name into the new signage. At the very least let's have a tribute like RW did for the Stardust.
