One of the statements that hit closest to home was when he described not feeling “black enough” or having to fit in to two worlds. That is definitely something I myself have faced as a Mexican-American, and is the reality for many people of color. Growing up attending mostly white schools in the suburbs, I was “too Mexican” and then around my Mexican cousins or family friends I was “too white.” Granted I am a white passing Mexican, so I undoubtedly have more privilege than even some of my family members; but I too struggled with racism, colorism and classism all my life. That’s why we all need to come together and support our black brothers and sisters in this time of need. Black lives matter ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

your dead. on my Mexican friends have that same struggle. I just back them with what they decide and how they want to handle it. Why? because they are my friend. real friendship doesn't know color.
Surely you see the people around you saying too white, as programming to hate whites and be different than a normal American. Which is what they are truly saying, whether they realize it or not. A normal successful American, does not emulate anything.
Thomas Tucker Then surely you would understand this is a byproduct of generations of white supremacy and systematic racism and oppression. This even predates the American influence; rather comes from the Spanish colonial years in which they raped, murdered and pillaged natives and sought after light skin as beautiful. It’s been taught and preached across all Spanish colonies and is still rampant today. It’s deeply ingrained in genocide aka colonialism.
The wisest people don’t even pretend to have all the answers. "I know that I know nothing" - Socrates Meaning he knew that his knowledge was nothing compared to the vastness of what he could learn.
He reminded me of serving in our U.S. Navy in VR-57 where we had only 1 out of about 45 or so pilots who was an African-American. Lieutenant Commander Rudy Porter. I remember how much I enjoyed flying with and working for him. I am also reminded how my service in our military showed this small-minded young man how much each of us has to offer our country, and to one another, regardless of the color of the skin that we were born with. In these extremely difficult times, the General, along with all of the African-American men and women who I had the privilege of serving with make me proud to be an real American, that is one who is overcome with the feeling of honor for serving alongside them. My shipmates. Our country needs to immediately begin putting our African-American sisters and brothers in such leadership positions so that real changed will happen, and we might one day truly stand united as Americans who have equal reasons for being proud of our country, and proud to live alongside one another. Thank you, General, and Godspeed, Sir.

Yes, he seems a good man. But I don't agree that he's "rare". We whites may think he's so because of our prejudices. That's what being prejudiced means. It doesn't necessarily mean you intend harm, but harm is caused just the same.
Well spoken , wish my husband was alive to hear this , he was a senior military officer . I feel sadness for anyone who is racist.... we can learn so much from one another. Thank you sir for you service !!!
You can hear the vulnerability and pain in his voice and the way it shakes even though he's trying so hard to keep his speech smooth and even. You can see the way his lips tremble a bit when some memories are too difficult to think about. It's heartbreaking.
Great souls like Abraham Lincoln were shaken up by this sinister attitude and tried their best to remove racialism by law. But despite such laws being on the statute book, serious riots take place frequently between the whites and the blacks. This gangsterism has now permeated society and people in many urban areas live constantly in a state of terror. Those who have sown the seeds of racist violence are now themselves reaping a harvest of chaotic violence, in which even teenagers are participating brutally. As every action has a reaction, this reaction has reached its extreme all over the world in such an ugly and unjustifiable manner that it seems impossible now to reverse the relationship between the whites and coloured people. If the whites have any wisdom, they should know that black people are superior to them in many areas. For example the white skins cannot sing like the blacks. They don’t have the same natural gift of rhythm. I have seen even when the blacks carry their dead they play a band, while all the mourners move in a rhythmic dance-like way. To understand and appreciate them, you only need to be subtle, to become humble to realise how much they are blessed with gifts by the Divine. The talent in sports which the blacks have, cannot be easily surpassed. All the games which require vigour and agility are performed better than anybody else by the black people. In basketball and base- ball games, the blacks predominate and because of their proficiency and indispensability they are accepted by the whites as equals in their teams. Why should this non-racialist attitude in sports not spread to society as a whole? One has to accept that most of the great singers are black people. Of course some white people have been able to succeed but they cannot beat the black Western singers who are so melodious and beautifully rhythmic.

I know that I am part of the problem, and I want to now be part of the solution.
Your statement is powerful and what needs to be done as far as the flip side of this yes u am a black person who served in the military and truly appreciate your acknowledgement of being part of the problems and wanting to be the solution.

General Brown is a true patriot. We need officers of his caliber and wisdom in these troubled times. He is right to ask the question: "What are you thinking about?" I am thinking how can we look at our fellow Americans and somehow think that they are not as patriotic as we think we are. I am thinking how can we deny the basic humanity of our fellow Americans that we take for granted. I am thinking how can we see the injustices and indignities being visited upon on fellow Americans and not do or say anything to stop it. I am thinking how can we see ourselves as Americans when we deny Constitutional rights to both native born and naturalized Americans. I am thinking how can America be the "Shining City on a Hill" when we snuff out the fires of freedom in our own land.

The problem is when they wrote that statement they didn't mean it. Their act of holding Blacks as slaves show they didn't mean it. And what's a country starts off on the wrong foot is doomed to be a messed up place. The thing is you got to see the founding fathers for who they were. The words might have been noble but you can't lean on evil men of noble words.

That is why DIVERSITY SUCKS and Blacks are not the only ones who die WE ALL DIE and I matter to ME
@Alex Although I am poor by American standards, I have enjoyed 'white privilege' because of the color of my skin. I can only imagine the difficulties you have faced. God be with you. :)
your dead. on my Mexican friends have that same struggle.
I got my cry today. I salute you sir

Not really
Sounds like an irrational crybaby to me. Exactly the type of person who rises to the top in America's new military.
Racism didn't keep him from becoming a general so I guess not so racist after all.
He's another person that makes me proud to be an American.
P. Spit you're either ignorant or turning a blind eye intentionally.

As a fellow USAF Vet, I salute you, Sir. Thank you for saying what so many of us feel.
I hear this man and I hear the deep, searing wounds of a human being's lived experience of being treated as lesser than a human being 😢😭.
YES SIR! BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, LOVE from Belgium 👊

General Brown is a true patriot. We need officers of his caliber and wisdom in these troubled times.
He is right to ask the question: "What are you thinking about?"
I am thinking how can we look at our fellow Americans and somehow think that they are not as patriotic as we think we are.
