I too have this Mongoose. Purchased the seemingly last one available in New Hampshire in November 2022. I basically had it stripped and installed a mix of the highest end Shimano components that are compatible with this model: brakes, rotors, front and rear derailleurs, cranks, chainrings, and shifters. The bike now has a Manitou fork as well. Prologo Dimension saddle, stock rims still but studded Schwalbe Marathon tires ordered directly from Germany. Two sets of new Koozer rims are in hand with old school Kenda skinwall streets and Panaracer Smoke/Dart skinwalls but all yet to be installed. Pure, pure overkill. Maybe a waste of money you say but it sure was a fun project. And it looks great and higher end than it really is. Also, you say 26-inch? Well, I'm 73 and used to old school. In fact I still have my Panasonic mtb from 1989. And with a 26 in winter riding? Not so far to fall when on ice. :)
I've been wanting to build up the 29r version of the bike with parts from an old schwinn ascension frame. That integrated derailleur hanger keeps me.from doing it. If I find a frame cheap, I will try it. Thoughts anyone?
that thing looks absolutely badass, i love it. That shifting sucks. I thought the bit of rubbing noise I get on my sram gx's 1x chainring was annoying but it's nothing compared to what you're experiencing.
Unrelated but I recently had my kent trouaville stolen and I'm thinking about getting either a Giordano Valor or a eastern alpaca from eastern bike co(I've never even heard of that company before)..my question is do you have any recommendations for a good bike with 29" wheels and a 1x drive?..something in the budget category?..thank you ✌️❤️
Sorry to hear of your Trouvaille loss. Valor is a good bike. Have you looked at the Ozark Trail 29? There may also be some new contenders soon to be seen 🤐😁
3:52 - Sounds like the shifting blues. I know that sound! Maybe if you properly housed your "good" bikes in the living room, things wouldn't "just happen". But nooooo. Might get oil on the carpeting (again).
What happens in 32-39 years, when Kev's loyal, last followers all grow too fat to ride or too old and die? Will he open 'Kev's Famous Bike Museum, AND 24-Hour Fried Chicken Vending Machine'?
This whole buy cheap and upgrade it scenario is so F'n stupid. If a person doesn't have any money and forced to buy a piece of S mongoose, they certainly don't have any money to purchase a bunch of F'n upgrades to make it rideable. No logic to any of this.
I love 26ers. it has the retro 90s look
I still keep my 26" ( Ironhorse Warrior 3.1 ) she is not going nowhere, even if I don't ride her anymore.
Yes. Perfect bikes for people under 6ft.

This is one of the best looking bikes ever!
Love how the Golden Goose looks,Kev! Almost looks like a real DH bike sans the rear suspension.
Nice seeing the 'golden-goose' again! 😊👍🚴 I have a same set up, dualcrown on a hardtail, but on 24" wheels.

Would a friction shifter solve the shifting problem?? IDK.
Not much for anything gold. But I can appreciate it. I love red and the gold does look good with it.
Looks like a chopper. Very cool.

Doesn’t the drivetrain just need a turn or two as the cable stretches/settles into the housing?
Looks good
In one of the previous videos, you said it didn't shift right, because the chain was too short!
Such a beautiful bike! Haven't seen that in ages! I thought that was the bike that was stolen. Which one was that?
You're golden on this bike. That white lettering might just be a remider that you shouldn't be looking down while riding;)
I'm going to hire Jack to steal the Golden Goose!
Love the name Golden Goose 😊
Tighten your barrel adjuster to fix the shifting. If it's that bad, you might need 3/4 to a full turn.
6:59 - 1980 called. He wants his grips back!

What saddle is that?
Roadnado
Any danger in having a dual crown on that frame?
There are some good bikes that’s on Clearance going on at Walmart
Looks so 80's...
😎

5:40 - Kev's bike has a fricken red garter belt! Ha Ha Ha.
Poor microshift getting a bad rap in this video. Bike looks great
the golden mongoose
Nice
8:06 - Birds - stealing buttons again? Or a victim of his popularity? You decide.
ANY attention is good attention! (When you're old.) I thought you knew that. You will, if you don't.
You live in the Illinois area?
Iz Dat real GOLD Kev? (No? - Come on. You're cheapn out on us, at this time?)
BEAUTIFUL ❤ 🇬🇧
I have owned at least 10 MTBs, I have never had a bent derailleur hanger. Never.
Just adjust cable
Don't like all that cable hanging out like that can catch on anything
Mongoose Midas
Needs a 29er up front !!!

That bike is sexual.
