    I loved your road trip video and decided that I don't watch you enough. You talk about books that no one else on booktube are talking about and make them sound really intriguing. As to your critics and their hate mail, forget them. Just continue being you, that is part of your charm. Not everyone is going to like you or agree with you. Our reading tastes and likes and dislikesare as individual as we are. Keep up the good work.

    I can only imagine what it's like to put yourself out there publicly. I thank you for all the hours you've put into your channel. As a fellow Canadian (I'm in Ontario) I especially appreciate the down home feel. You bring a lot of joy :)

    I love you Jill! Thanks for sticking around :) I have definitely gotten the itch to make videos again, but I don't even know where to begin. Maybe I'll just make a wrap up at the end of the year or something. But I really do miss making wrap ups mostly. It's fun to unpack my thoughts about what I've been reading.

    So glad you got to this. My favorite video of yours (I do love almost all) is about your recent vacation road trip. I appreciate the time you take and the planning that appears to go into in. Did have a fabulous trip to Boston and went to the Isabelle Gardner house/museum. Went to see the missing picture but found instead a museum and art I should have gone to see long ago. The amount of tapestries on display were better than anything I have seen in my many trips to Europe just to see a few. I was absolutely blown away. As a result I've been reading the Art Forger which is a not great novel but does focus much on the heist in 1990 and I just wanted to read more about the museum in any form.

      Oh wow, sounds like an amazing visit! I will have to take another trip to check out the museum. Ive watched the documentary about it on Netflix and of course I am intrigued!

    Hi Jill! I have been a fan for awhile now and I am sorry that you have had such harsh comments as of late. You seem to be such a passionate and empathic person, I feel they were not deserved. Hoping you continue to share your wonderful content with us, they are always enjoyable. Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season!

    I have an arc of And Then She Fell. It sounds so good. Chief Testickle...okay...okay...Curious. Your road trip bookstore video is my fav so far. I love watching your content. You come across as a positive, intelligent, and authentic person and I love your book recommendations. I read Ducks and Trust from your recommendation this year and loved both.
    I read some great books by Canadian authors: We Spread by Iain Reid, Closer By Sea by Perry Chafe, And the Walls Came Down by Denise Da Costa
    Other five-star reads for me this year: The Drift by C.J. Tudor, The Wheel of Time #7, Homecoming by Kate Morton, Wayward Children #7, Bunny by Mona Awad, and The Devotion of Suspect X.

      Thanks for the kind comment 🩷. Honestly I rarely get any sort of mean or unkind comments! Yellowface drew in people from outside my usual demographic and naturally caused some ripples in the surface. Don't let that experience dissuade you! If you want to make videos I will be here to watch!

    I really enjoyed the Bee Sting, one of the Irish books on the Booker Prize this year. I mention this as you read alot of and enjoy Irish books. I have And Then She Fell on pre order but agree the cover is not the best! Love the cover of Miss Eagle! Booktok is not for me either, I am so glad you are still giving amazing videos for those of us Millenials on youtube 😊

    Jill, I've been watching your channel for a long time and I truly love every video you post. I can tell how much appreciation you have for all things books and authors, and that you do it because you enjoy it. I just recently finally bought "Before Your Memory Fades". I loved the 1st book and I'm about to read Tales From the Cafe, was excited to find the 3rd book. Always enjoy hearing your thoughts on books. Building my list of what I'm wanting to read as the weather gets colder as I tend to read more in the colder weather, and I always find more books of interest from watching your channel. Love from Kansas!

    thank you for calling out adult Heartstopper fans lmfao. i’m ostensibly a young person but when gays my age love that show i’m like… what are you getting out of this? wanting olivia colman to be your mother, now that i get
    also sorry about the Yellowface video. i always wince when i see a review for a book where the author has actual stans (Kuang, Sanderson, Maas, weirdly Yanagihara) because no matter how measured the review is there’s comments like “actually there’s this thing you maybe missed, it was super subtle, you probably just didn’t read it closely enough” and the condensation almost kills me every time lol

    • @TheBookBully
      @TheBookBully  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A big theme in the comments was "the thing you missed is the racism"
      ...the book is called Yellowface; the racism is not subtle, and I got it.

      Oh I'm sorry to hear that! I didn't read Pew so I don't have any expectations, so maybe my reading experience will be different.

    Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Yelloface video. I saved it to watch later as I am still waiting in library queue, but can totally understand your need to take it down to avoid internet silliness and meanness. I value your book reviews a lot and hope making fun stays fun for you.
    Inspired by your Baillie Gifford video I typed up the >100 shortlist books in a StoryGraph reading challenge to track my progress in reading through them lol. I will be reading A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare next! Two nonfiction that I recently enjoyed are An Immense World by Ed Yong and Chip War by Chris Miller. Have a nice day

    Wait, am I missing something? I cannot find your Yellowface review. It's one of those books I couldn't put down so had an instinct reaction, but the further I've got from it the less I liked it.

    • @TheBookBully
      @TheBookBully  ปีที่แล้ว

      I decided to private the video a little while ago. It was getting quadruple the number of views my videos normally get and the comments were often quite nasty. I decided losing sleep to anxiety over something as asinine as a book review wasn't worth it! But I can sum up my feelings for you: I thought it was sloppy, inconsistent, and doesn't actually achieve what it thinks it does.
