When their parents were looking for a drum teacher for Pau, she was so small no one would agree to teach her, except Beto. The ladies are VERY loyal to their extended family.
Beto became her teacher later in her life, and helped her go to the next level of relaxation and technical skill without harming her joints etc. But yea, beto is brilliant
Pau's brutal "F You" to her critics and haters in the Mexican media for singing in English. They were called Malanchistas or cultural traitors. Definitely NOT a plea for acceptance, but laughing at their critics while telling them the Warning will do it THEIR WAY! Beto Ramos is her drum instructor and mentor. Great reaction, thanks. Also see this song at Foro DiDi to see Pau's passionate face expressions.
Beto Ramos is Pau's long-time drum coach. During this concert each of them brought on a musical mentor to play with the band. Usually Pau sings this from behind the kit. But she does come out once in a while. A couple times Arejay Hale played drums when they toured with Halestorm. When they toured in Philly last May, one of their techs played drums and let Pau loose. This song is a big FU, in a language the critics can understand, to the haters in Mexico who said they not authentic since they sing their songs in English rather than their native tongue. You call us Malanchista? Let me 'splain this to you in a language you can understand.
Some critics were calling them cultural traitors for only singing in English so the song is a FU to those who slammed them. Beto Ramos is her drum teacher!
Pau wrote this song as a big middle finger to their critics who were giving them crap for singing in English. Here's the first time they played it live, Pau is on the drums in this one: th-cam.com/video/O7IAEhN4RMM/w-d-xo.html
Pau's gone wild.. I love this version, it really rocks... She sings and plays drums on this song usually..This really got to Pau emotionally I think .. buy the end of this show she was in tears.. Ale gave her a shoulder to cry on.. 🤘🎶☮️
This is the one to watch. She is visibly pissed off and wanted to drive the point home. 5 years later it’s more fun for them to play, but back when it was written and first performed it was definitely delivered with a lot of fire.
When they first debuted this song live, the lyrics were displayed on the screen behind them. Imo, it was for those critics just in case they didn't understand the vocals....they can read it for themselves 😂👍🏽 ⚡️THE WARNING⚡️
Yes, that dude, Beto Ramos is her drum tutor. Apparently he also did the sound mixing for the recordings from that show. Malinchista is a term used for a cultural traitor. Malinche was an Aztec woman that translated for Hernán Cortés, during his conquest of the Aztec empire.
This song is dedicated to the haters who criticize them, among other things, for writing all their songs in English. This being the first in Spanish. malinchista is said to someone who prefers foreign things over their own culture. bacically is Pau giving the middle finger to those who criticize the band for nonsense. The first time they played this song live, Pau sings it playing the drums and it is on their channel, it is live on Foro Didi. very good interpretation ⚡🤘⚡🤘⚡🤘
Excellent middle finger to the journalist that accused them of being malinchist (traitor to their cultural heritage) despite them being the finest ambassadors for Mexico 😂
Thanks for a new description of Pau that fits perfect, "adorably vicious"! Yes, Beto Ramos was her drum teacher but this was the very first time they had an opportunity to play with him in all the years they've known each other. Great reaction, thanks!
I still like best the original live performance from Foro Didi Monterrey. People have already explained the "why" of this song, but Pau's delivery of the vocal from behind the drums leaves you in no doubt at all (as someone who doesn't speak Spanish) how she feels about the subject. Fun fact (as Pau often says herself): Despite it being in their native language, Pau wrote the original lyrics, showed them to her mother who commented that they didn't make sense (she was so used to writing lyrics in the form of English phrases) and Mum basically went through them with her and made the Spanish grammatically correct.
Yes, as someone already pointed out, she normally sings this song while drumming, as she does, but come on, you need to put her upfront at times, she is a killer frontwoman and you can see how much fun they are having. The camera shot of the three upfront is priceless! La "Malinche" is a historic character, she was a woman gifted as a "slave" to Hernán Cortés (Spanish conqueror of the later called Nueva España), she was a polyglot from several native languages and dialects, who also learned Spanish and was a vital part helping Hernan Cortés with the conquest of Mexico as a translator, so to be called a "MALINCHISTA", is to be a traitor (or sold out) of/to the Mexican culture. La Malinche is quite an interesting character of our Mexican History.
The guest drummer is Beto Ramos Paus drum coach. She usually does drum and sing this unless someone steps in and let's her free to diva out up front. There is also videos with Arejay Hale of Halestorm filling in. Yeah this is them telling off the critics. This is their first Spanish song because they wanted to make sure said critics got the message loud and clear. malinchista is slang essentially mening cultural traitor.
The guy playing drums is Beto Ramos, who is as you guessed her drum teacher. He's also done some other work for the band, mixing I think. He's actually a member of the Mexican alternative rock band Jumbo.
Pau is a powerhouse! I love that she’s having fun with her sisters. And I agree Dani as always is amazing and Ale! Well she’s our bass queen. I find myself usually automatically tuning in to the baseline. She’s so talented! Love their response to their critics. The Warning 🤘🏻
Pau needs a twin sister, so one could play the drums and the other work the audience from the front of the stage. As it is, she's the beating heart of the band in many ways. Drummer, arranger, lyricist, and the one who manages the band's sophisticated electronics. BRAVO, PAU!!! Any good band has a support system and crew. All of the members have tutors on their instruments. In addition to that they have drum and guitar techs (you'll notice how often Dany switches guitars and how often someone runs out to help secure Pau's drum set). I'm not sure if the techs double as roadies, but their manager, Rudy, seems to be omnipresent as well. It's not just three girls. Any band at their level operates at a similar level.
you picked the best version... congrats! reason is... this version has Pau up front on stage, with her old drum coach playing. and Pau gives it her 500%.
Obviously Pau is a brilliant writer and performer, and deserves every accolade…but thank you for recognizing the importance of Ale. She’s an unbelievable talent who flies under the radar, especially for newer reactors who (understandably) are drawn to Dany & Pau. On the bright side, Ale is perfectly happy with that…but she’s the secret ingredient. Always has been.
I had to look up "malinchista" when I first heard the song. The word doesn't directly translate to English. As I understand it, it's a pejorative for someone who throws over their [Mexican] culture & heritage in favor of another culture. The band apparently caught a lot of flack for writing & performing songs in English instead of Spanish. This was their first Spanish song & was basically a F*ck You to the critics.
Because Malinche was a native woman that had an affaire with Hernan Cortez, el conquistador. Here in Panama.we had Anayansi and Balboa, amd you had Pocahontas.
"Adorably vicious!' Yep, that's Pau.. don't let the looks fool you. She's a fireball through and through, and not afraid to state her case!😂 When this was written, they had to get their Mom's help with context, so it made more sense, but it was like 'You want a song in Spanish? Well, here ya go pendejo!!'😡 This song has become a crowd favorite, no matter what country they're playing in!😍👍👍
I love the energy of Pau up front with her sisters it was so much fun to watch with her being able to express her F you to her critics in such an in your face way. Great reaction thank you for doing this one. 🤘🔥⚡
If you liked Pau on the loose here, then check out their Live cover of "Brutal" with Eruca Sativa, or when she sang with long time family friend Jay de la Cueva's band in Mexico. There is a half dozen instances of guest performers on stage with them, or they are the guests with others. All of them are a metric ton of fun! They did Narcisista with Jay joining Dany on guitar in NYC, at the Mercury Lounge, and it is killer.
Pau has only come out front to sing this a handful of times, most of the time she's behind the kit. I had the pleasure of being there for one of those times in Philly at the end of their last US Tour. What a treat!!
The two TED talks and the six episodes of "Mayday in the making" are great to know more about their mindsets and the basis for their uniqueness. Another great reaction! 👍👏👏👏
*Narcisista Backstory:* Pau usually sings lead playing drums. This single (not on any album) came out months after they released *Queen of the Murder Scene* album. Excellent to hear you decipher their Spanish like this! Well done! And yes certain critics even called pau, specifically, narcissista. Can you imagine? She’s A type for sure, but that doesn’t make one a narcissist. She’s extremely sensitive and caring about her team and her family and her fans and her friends, from everything I’ve seen and been told about her.
Beto's style is perfect for Pau coming up front. He plays it a lot flatter, like a jazz guy, technically perfect and perfectly subdued to let the women's performance come through. What a pro.
Victor Ramos is a BAD MUTHA F…. Hush your mouth!! He plays on the edge of quick! Crisp! With exuberance! Outstanding performance from all!!!! 🤘🕊❤️🤘 ⚡️⚡️⚡️V.R.!
Speaking of the TED Talks, that's the perfect thing to watch if you want music + getting to know them better, they talk between songs. Also TED talks are some of my favorite performances of theirs to watch anyways, should do them next! And a full run through (sequentially) of 'Queen of the Murder Scene' live at Lunario should be on your list. If not just that one show, at least make sure you don't jump around the songs randomly since it's a concept album. You've already done 'Dust to Dust', which is the first track of QOTMS.
Yup, Paulina is going to let you know what she's thinking! These three are having Sooo Muuuch Fuunn, giving their critics the middle finger! Get out of their way, they have a mission to conquer the Rock Music scene in every language possible! Long Live DPA, The Warning 🤘⚡🫶
Hey Zack! You are on the right path, but I think you missed the sarcasm. This is their first song in Spanish. It is to address critics in Mexico that got on them because they do most of their songs in English. So, this is their rebuttal to that criticism. They are saying, in essence, Go ahead and criticize me more, we just laugh at you and say, Na Na Na.... We are not Narcissists or "Malanchista" (A Mexican word going back to Aztec times, meaning to be a cultural traitor). The drummer is Beto Ramos, Pau's drum teacher, BTW. Pau usually sings this while playing drums. She also sang this out front a few times while touring with Halestorm, and Arejay Hale, of Halestorm played drums for her. In any language this song is a BANGER!
Dany and Ale rehearse their stage movements. Pau rehearses what she does behind the drums. When she is not behind the drums, Dany and Ale have NO IDEA what Pau is going to do. I'm not sure Pau has a plan. It's all spontaneous. Also, this is their first song in Spanish. Their mom had to help them fix the lyrics into more proper grammatical Spanish so everyone could understand their point.
Beto added a little “flair” to the drum part compared to what Pau normally plays while singing and drumming this song. Why wouldn’t you? It’s a big stage for Beto as well and I’m sure he was encouraged to do so. Look up Beto Ramos on the internet, he’s quite an accomplished drummer and producer and is credited with being the Sound Mixer & Master for this Teatro Metropolitan production. DPA has had many mentors over their careers and it seemed very important for them to share the spotlight with those that believed in them in the early years and made huge contributions to the band with their expertise. Speaking of Ale, there are a few videos floating around with her doing lessons with Pablo when she was young and they are very interesting. There’s also a video out there with Dany when she was young with a guitar teacher playing yellow submarine that is hilarious.
Pau U.N.L.E.A.S.H.E.D.!!! DPA/TW have guest musicians join them on stage for a song from time to time... in this case the guest drummer, Beto Ramos, is one of Pau's drum coaches... Beto was also the sound mixer and sound master for this concert... he and Pablo González Sarre (see below) were also members of the band _Los Claxons_ , a Mexican pop rock band from DPA/TW's hometown of Monterrey, Mexico... some other guest musicians have been: - Pliego Villarreal (no relation to DPA but they do call him cousin and/or Primo) - Pablo González Sarre (Ale's bass coach and band mentor) - Arejay Hale (Halestorm drummer) - Barry Stock (Three Days Grace lead guitar) DPA/TW have also shared the stage with other bands like Moderatto, a Mexican "'80s Glam Metal" parody band from Mexico City and Eruca Sativa, an Argentine alternative rock band... TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I have seen several different versions of the song, some w her behind the kit and others where she is out front. I don’t think she ever will but she could absolutely do a Phil Collins and come out front as a solo artist. She has all the talent.
This song was in response to critics complaining about them doing all their songs in English and calling them cultural traitors. It is an F U to their critics in Spanish. Mony(mama) was a ghost writer on this song. 😉 edit Beto Ramos is the reason Pau is such a great drummer he took her in when no one else would teach her and has been there for the band since.
@@zack_reacts Exactly ! And that’s why unfortunately a lot of very good Mexican (and Latin American) bands haven’t succeeded internationally, cause they only sing in Spanish and their fame gets limited to the American continent and maybe Spain and very few other countries. The huge impact that TW is having worldwide is of course their talent but also because they are singing in English so that way they can reach a wider audience. I’m 100 % sure they will be the most important rock band to come out of Mexico (and probably Latin America) - if they aren’t already
I love this song. I had to look up the meaning of malinchista which can be a very derogatory term. The song made more sense to me when I discovered that.
I think the 'na na na na na na na na" bit is more like "blah blah blah, whatever" - like the adults in the old Charlie Brown TV specials. The critics are saying things that have no relevance. It's just background noise.
I understand there was a native,.who had a romance.with.the conquistador, maybe Hernan Cortes, amd her name was Malinche. I am from Panama,.but we study Latinamerican history, literature, as well as other countries, but we emphasized on the region. Amigos mexicanos tenemos una estatua de Morelos en una.via principal, muy bonita y antigua. Saludos.
*Scary Thought:* An reactor could react to 3 different Warning videos a day. Everyday for the next year. In one year. That reactor would not react to the same video in that year. Maybe the same song several times. But not the same video. Scary part is you got 2 more years of that to go & counting. Truth is The Warning is over saturated with content on TH-cam than any other band on TH-cam. Their channel, reactors & fan made. Yet. They don't feel like they're over saturated.
This is hugely fun. But you *gotta* see a live performance with Pau singing behind the drum kit, it's a blast. She does all the hand movements and stuff. This song made me look up the origin of the uniquely Mexican insult "malinchista" - involves the Nahuatl woman known as "La Malinche" who was essentially sold to Cortés to act as a translator and assistant in his war against the Aztecs (in which the Nahuatl were allies). She ended up having a child with Cortés and marrying one of lieutenants before disappearing from the historical record. Her reputation in Mexico has oscillated over the years: sometimes she is seen as victim or symbol of survival under the colonial domination - sometimes she's seen as a traitor who betrayed the native people (thus the insult). Anyway in Mexico this is a very serious insult, it appears, and this song is their angry reaction to it. Underneath the sarcasm is an undercurrent of rage (and that's there a lot in their music, gotta say).
You've got the gist of it exactly correct, IMHO. Some have said this is pretty biting sarcasm... but to me Pau was going pretty easy on them. "Them" being basically a couple of newspaper commentators criticizing the band for ignoring Spanish in favor of English lyrics. Apparently, one of them went so far as (at least vaguely) accusing them of being "malinchista" which is apparently what really tripped Pau's trigger. I don't know the details, but whomever wrote that clearly didn't understand how planet-wide music industry *works* , or the character, upbringing, education and nature of the sisters themselves. I won't say she's "a slow fuse"... depends on the circumstances - but this accusation clearly just, well, pissed her off. This whole family and crew are very proud of their Mexican nationality, and deservedly so. And she was having none of it. Thus this tune. Again, I first read the translations people were putting out, and then their explanations of the circumstances... and my opinion was that the sarcasm in this tune was kind of astonishing subtle (from a "coarse American" perspective) in most cases. She could have been a LOT more explicit and harsh, but restrained herself (or, her mom talked her into being more restrained - probably a combination of both.) At any rate, it all wound up in this most amazing of tunes, and is still a major favorite of mine. Perhaps ranked second or third... but it's always hard to tell with a band who's "most favorite tune is the one I last heard".
This song was basically the " middle finger " to all their critics in Mexico who criticized them for singing in English.
When their parents were looking for a drum teacher for Pau, she was so small no one would agree to teach her, except Beto. The ladies are VERY loyal to their extended family.
Just to clarify some info. Beto wasn’t Pau’s first drum teacher, it was Gerardo Arizpe.
Beto became her teacher later in her life, and helped her go to the next level of relaxation and technical skill without harming her joints etc. But yea, beto is brilliant
"Adorably vicious!" That’s probably the best 2 word description for these sisters I’ve ever come across. Kudos, my man.
Pau's brutal "F You" to her critics and haters in the Mexican media for singing in English. They were called Malanchistas or cultural traitors. She’s A type for sure, but that doesn’t make one a narcissist. She’s extremely sensitive and caring about her team and her family and her fans and her friends, from everything I’ve seen and been told about her.
The Warning is 100% 🔥 Greetings from Argentina
Having watched this masterpiece of a concert several times, when this song comes on I don't even realize they switched to Spanish.
It's a shame Pau is such a great drummer, because she also kicks ass as a frontwoman. She's like a ball of energy out there.
Both of them are! Have you seen Dani perform as a front woman with three days grace?
Beto's style is perfect for Pau coming up front. He plays it a lot flatter, like a jazz guy, technically perfect and perfectly subdued to let the women's performance come through. What a pro.
Yes, Pau usually sings this while drumming, but this was a special one-off performance where she got to strut her stuff.
They do have a few complex music videos. "XXI Century Blood" is a full on short film.
So classy to attack their critics with a song in Spanish. ‘Of course we can do Spanish songs. We choose not too.’
🤘⚠️nice reaction ⚠️🤘
Super Pau!!! # 1 rock Drummer 2023 🤘❤️🤘
Con ustedes la diosa del rock más poderosa de the warning. ❤
This is the greatest Fuck You rock song ever written.
That is her drum teacher I believe.
Pau said that Ale is so on time it's scary. She keeps the time for Dany & Pau
Beto was also the sound mixer and sound master for this concert... he and Pablo González Sarre (see below) were also members of the band _Los Claxons_ , a Mexican pop rock band from DPA/TW's hometown of Monterrey, Mexico...
some other guest musicians have been:
- Pliego Villarreal (no relation to DPA but they do call him cousin and/or Primo)
- Pablo González Sarre (Ale's bass coach and band mentor)
- Arejay Hale (Halestorm drummer)
- Barry Stock (Three Days Grace lead guitar)
DPA/TW have also shared the stage with other bands like Moderatto, a Mexican "'80s Glam Metal" parody band from Mexico City and Eruca Sativa, an Argentine alternative rock band...
TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
Not sure if you have seen these yet but Pau does a brilliant job singing on 23 and Revenant. Really shows off her abilities.
Beto Ramos, i believe did the mixing for this show. He is in another band also.
There is a version from Lunario where Pau does it behind the kit. Personally, I like that version a little better, but this one is also very good.
Paus does the song behind the kit and I actually prefer her si going it behind the kit , she actually sings it even better when drumming
Paulina unleashed ⚡⚡⚡
I have seen several different versions of the song, some w her behind the kit and others where she is out front.
I don’t think she ever will but she could absolutely do a Phil Collins and come out front as a solo artist. She has all the talent.
Pau has so much sass …just bad ass ..🤘
You think they had some fun with this performance…wow. Pau prowling the stage was epic. Beto is an incredible drummer.
The song is about them not listening to Mexican media saying they are sellouts to their heritage because they sing mostly in English.
This song was in response to critics complaining about them doing all their songs in English and calling them cultural traitors. It is an F U to their critics in Spanish. Mony(mama) was a ghost writer on this song. 😉 edit Beto Ramos is the reason Pau is such a great drummer he took her in when no one else would teach her and has been there for the band since.
dude,, the look on your face seconds in tells it all...
They were being called a sellout in Mexico for singing in English
That's interesting. A lot of successful artists in a lot of countries sing in English. There's a big Audience for it!
I recommend that you also listen to this song with Pau playing drums at the Foro Didi concert. The video is on The Warning's TH-cam channel.
You also have to check out the foro didi version of the song but I also enjoy front woman Pau.
I love this song. I had to look up the meaning of malinchista which can be a very derogatory term. The song made more sense to me when I discovered that.
Pau also sjares the lead.on.Dust to Dust,.Disciple,.etc.
Saludos.
The 2017 tedx is a must see. As is X anniversary.
🤘🇲🇽🤘🇲🇽🤘🇲🇽
You gotta see the foro DIDI performance of this song
