My love of trains will never diminish. There used to be something so soothing about the gentle chug and the ever changing imagery. Thank you for a beautiful journey
i must say, the romance of a train journey is a bit special. without thinking, or premeditating, i always get a rush from a big train station, filled with groups embarking on adventures, all eagerly watching the message boards like mystical clockwork machines preparing my train for my particular adventure. the mallaig train is one i hope i get the chance to do, i've looked at it previously but the timing means a lay over before getting the ferry to skye. last year i got the train from glasgow to lanark, surprisingly beautiful journey, and the falls of clyde and the new lanark enlightenment mills are a story you might enjoy looking into.
Robert Owen was born in the town next to me in Wales, and I was going to do a documentary about his socialist views and the utopia he built in the US [although I don't think I can really justify a fight to the US].. but his Lanark mills are much more accessible I do have a few Welsh and Scots railways to do to find the most romantic- and the Settle to Carlisle English line. If you do get up to malling do get across to the Inverie ..the most remote pub in the UK. £15 ferry trip return and it is very Blair witch !

My favourite part of the world. It makes my heart ache to see it again.
These images are like a different planet to me. No passenger trains here. You drive or fly.
