The fact that the reapers were shown doing pve stuff while the athena emissaries were looking for a fight is ironically accurate
I have yet to come across an athena emissary. I have come across reapers. I think twice I just ran and if caught, they sank my ship. One time was just raising a flag, level one, and did not have loot on board. I did not put up a fight. One of them asked to kill them, they sunk my ship and killed me again. The second time, I had loot. I dropped a 4 chests of the damned, while running. Then thinking they would let me go, they kept on coming after me. I still had loot on my ship, so I decided to run off the map. I worked 2 hours going back and forth to those ghost forts, only to let a reaper take all the loot, no thank you. Then I came across them again, but they were not under the reaper. I ran out of bounds again. Then woke up on a beach near the ghost fort they went to. I rowed a boat over in that direction, simmed the rest and decided to take their ship, light it on fire and beach them. Killed the guy that kept spawning everytime. Then left.

I feel like it would be more accurate if the Athena players were running and doing pve while reapers were fighting for 10 seconds before running away and then doing pve.

Putting this update over the year one anniversary update before it even released is kind of risky. Time will tell if it is or maybe isn't
I agree year 1 anniversary was hype but if u think about it now the only things that lasted from it was fishing (kinda), tall tales and open treasure chests

This is what this game has always needed. Two factions with passion to fight each other and defend each other. Simply based on the colors your ship is flying, not whether your friends.

Knowing hoe toxic the player base is, i doubt that many inter crew alliances will form even if they are on the same team
@@wile123456 right. The problem is that people aren't doing it for gold or cosmetic incentives, so the whole hourglass thing won't mean much to them. They're just in it for the PvP, so they will fight each other.
That doesn't seem to be what we are getting... You are opting IN to PVP, your ship "dives beneath the waves" aka Instance Transfer ... so you'll essentially be sent to fight some other ship, or they will be sent to fight you, in short order - across servers. This isn't like "Red Team / Blue Team" ... it's PVP for prizes, essentially.
Rare, it's criminal you haven't uploaded the music alone right now. Full props for this entire update - this is going to be a brutal and wonderful season!

After playing in season 8, I can say this has been the best update I’ve ever experienced
I’m hoping this helps Solo players like me. PVE should be a little easier if all pvp people are busy

Go for the fight which is more entertaining because the people will actually fight and you can make money from it and earn rewards
Or fight the ship that won't fight back that only gives you a tall tale item that you can't use
If anything this update will encourage tall tale players to be left alone

@@Jallu555 there is still incentive to swipe loot and sink others for the "greed" of the hour glass but, yeah, it should make it more likely that they will chase one another rather than a non-faction ship - agreed.

It's nice that they include a warning with this update.
Too many people got upset about raising emissaries, when they were introduced; unaware that Reapers can see them at level five, and they their flags had a risk to them.

I agree but I don’t think people understand the grind for the rewards,you need to get level 100 for the stuff And in the video it showed 42 sunken ships is only level 10.5 so idk if people are willing to grind that much for it
@tatumtrane5744 I get where your coming from, but hopefully it won’t be as hard of a grind as you think. Even if it is that hard, many dedicated players will still be happy.

@@Stubbiee Probably only because people moaned. Fact remains it sucks having time limited world stuff going specially when it involves story. And the more I miss out on the less likely I am to come back. Mind they've got my money now so... Lol should of walked when they anounced private servers where for hire only and we wouldn't be enjoying the sea's on our todd unless we coughed up.
Dude this season seems absolutely amazing for PVP players. Hopefully that will incentivise them to go pvp with each other while us others that want to just finish the tall tales can do that in peace :)
I'm sure pve players will continue to whine endlessly and continue to think that anytime they get sunk they're being griefed :)

I only started now in october but im in love with this game with my now 167 hours so far, cant wait for when some friends are getting the game (hopefully a sale soon as we are students) and teach them the adventures of the sea and fight ing glorius battles across the sea!

@@captain_britain they both have their points I gotta say morally and philosophically about what and how you should be as a Pirate so I do really like them both, just finished listening to Athena’s fortune on Spotify so I have a lot more understanding of him and he’s an amazing character.
But Flameheart also have his points, can’t wait till I get my hands on his novel, but also like… skeletons and flames, I like that astetic a lot 😅 so double win for him

i always say to other when we are taling about games: "sea of thieves is one of the rare games nowadays that has actual love and soul put into it" you support this great game marvelously, you have my respect in this times of degenerate game developers

this trailer is a masterpiece... love the music, the screenplay, the cuts... everything
I'm totally a PvE-player, because I can't PVP for the life of me and get quite frustrated when handed my butt to me. But this Update looks amazing and I'm really happy for the PvPers for getting their share of gameplay. And who knows, maybe I'll try PvP again in dedicated sessions, like Phuzzy recommends.

@@artemis5265 It's based in a ladder matchmaking system to match you against other players of a similar skill of yours. When you win a fight you gain points that move you up the ladder. When you lose a fight you lose points and move you down the ladder. You are matched against players that have a similar point value of yours, making it so you fight against crews of an equal skill.
This genuinely looks so cool, and I'm not even a PvPer! Which, honestly, might need to change when the update rolls around, because this seems like a great way to get some combat experience.
I think I may also need to take a stab at sailing for Reapers so I can check out their new lair.

Love the fact that you are finally being REWARDED for choosing to attack or defend ships! 🙏 Fantastic. This will be interesting 🔥
And the best part of this new faction system to me is... it won't just benefit PvP players, its also going to benefit PvE players like myself as well.
Because not only is it going to gives PvPers a way to properly and reliably find and fight other willing players, but this is also going get A LOT of heat off of PvE players as well, because those who simply don't want to partake in constant PvP can just... avoid flagging for either factions altogether, and by not flagging you are effectively making yourself a far less interesting target.
Overall, even as a purely PvE player, I'm actually excited for this season and I might even partake into PvP every now and then myself since it's more of a "on demand" system, I can just hop in for a bit and hop out when I got my fill.
I'm not much of a PVPer, but I see this as a opportunity for many people to learn PVP.

As someone who hates pvp and avoids it as much as possible and wishes there was a solo mode this season still looks really cool and gives pvp a fresh coat of paint. Love the underwater travel.

I am so hyped. Ever since arena left It has been difficult to find a good fight. Everyone either sinks in 1 minute, or they run for 45 while I chase them. Very very few crews stood a chance against mine. Now, the sweat will all be condensed into an opt-in playstyle

And you are the idiot who chases someone for 45 minutes who obviously wants no part of pvp. This is why the game has and and will continue to struggle to retain pve style players. They are nothing but fodder for bored trolls.
@yimb8437 if a player runs around as a reaper 5 they are signaling themselves for pvp. I'm not a troll for hunting a pvp emissary. I used to be able to obtain high quality pvp in the arena whenever I wanted, but now I'm relegated to chasing people for loot after hopping through 16 servers just to have a fight that lasts all of 1 minute. Then a bunch of cry babies whining about it. I CRAVE the good fight. I WANT my ass kicked. It's so hard to find people that are able to do it.
I am excited for this update, and you should be too. I won't be in your pve adventure server Alliance much anymore. I'll be under the seas looking for a good fight. To hell with the loot. I want to get better and better and better at the combat. God help you and your crew of we every find you out there in adventure. Without the ability to fight and defend yourself, all the treasure you dig up is merely collected for someone else to turn in. Nobody can run forever. I recommend you embrace the pvp side of the game rather than fight against it.

@Nicksconcertvideoacc I am pretty good, but I'm not the best. Nobody is. The point is that I want to find a crew that can beat us, and learn from them. I want to meet the sweeties players and push myself as far as I can go. You want to... what? Grind world events in a completely safe server Alliance? Win all the gold and own all of the items to show your friends all of your "triumphs"? Your whole server would fall to one sweaty solo sloop because you don't push yourself to learn how to fight real people

people said nothing would top the anniversary update, then they brought jack, then they said nothing would top that... and now we have this, honestly, i think rare has so much creative potential that we as a community just cant know what will happen!

I am convinced that this will bring something what lasts longer than a week and it stays fresh as a option to put on when you feel like it!
