I'm one of the few people who actually enjoyed Avatar's story, despite it's flaws...Massive is the only Ubisoft studio i trust nowadays, so it's definitely a buy for me. Thank you for the great review!
As a former teenager that like very much the PS3 game, and is very passionate about the Avatar world, this is like, the perfect game for me. It could have been a Pandora walking simulator, it would have been fine for me. This is just what I wanted 14 years ago, and now I have it so that's very cool. And damn isn't it gorgeous! And it seems to be decent, for sure not groundbreaking, it's Ubisoft, but eh, works well. I hope although it goes beyond its core gameplay, and how the game is giving you a relationship between Na'vis and Pandora. At the end, story might be simple - like the movies - I think it's more a feeling and something else that touch me with Avatar. I like that you can just be a Na'vi, take your time, there are not many ennemies, just explore an enormous map. The movies and the first game do not do justice to the world they created for Avatar. Na'vis are insanely interesting with their cultures and rites, although as any "fake" societies, it's has to have a sense of familiarity, because after all, the creators are biaised. But you have to read the books, spend time in lore, etc. That's the downside of a media IP I suppose.
Playing this on maxxed out settings with a 4k HDR TV is the most immersive experience. It's such a living breathing world with the amount of dense flora and fauna, excellent sound design, dynamic weather system.... it all makes the planet really feel alive.
I love the game! From someone who never played a shooter game First person perspective grew on me :) there are few things they need to fix with the cosmetic display on both my character and ikran. Aaaaand I wish the game would stop referring me to "they" I am not a "they" I'm a "she" they should add a patch to fix that cause it's like scratching in calk board, so I try to just brush it off. Other than that I love the game! I hope they add more to the story!
I hope for DLC that they do decide to stray from the RDA . After Avatar: WoW - I remember hearing whispers of "Fire Na'avi" who are the only Na'avi to also combat other Native Na'avi in future films so maybe somethingggg (doesn't have to be Fire Na'avi) along those lines would make for an interesting expansion that would add more to the story than "RDA bad , Na'avi good" like you mentioned .
Ubisofts' issue is that they need to mature. They have so many interesting ip's, but i feel like they are stuck in the 360 era for world building and storytelling They have a set way of doing things, and they rarely try something new. I will probably pick this up at some point. It does look fun. But not at full price. I have a feeling a game like this will be on sale pretty quickly and maybe end up on gamepass or playstation plus
I love exploration, don't care about boss fights, so I might get this. Is it possible to skip RDA weapons and stick with bow and other 'native' weapons?
Everybody is comparing it to Far Cry Primal. Is there any way someone could choose or answer the question on if you had to choose between the two, would it be Avatar or Primal? I love Pandora, I love the creatures and the wild life, the nature, the Na'avi themselves are amazing. I have always looked forward to a game like this. But... I also have never played Far Cry Primal. So I'm curious about what other people would choose if they had to choose one or the other and have actually played both.
MY experiences with combat with the RDA is that the bows are crap for them, because i aim, they have already knocked 75% of my health off before i even fire and i have noticed i do better against 4 Mechs than i do against 4 Humans, which is weird, i find the RDA weapons better at taking out the enemies especially at longer range, because the bows have far lower range than the guns, so i tend to just use my guns when facing RDA, cause bows are just trash, especially at the beginning, the weak points tend to be in places that expect you to be stealthy, but the problem is, Stealth is virtually non-existent, the moment i fire 1 shot of the bow, killing the enemy while undetected, the others instantly know where i am and even if i move, they go to where i moved to, its like they have GPS, which they act on, only when i act or, i am in their line of sight. The game looks good, but honestly, that is their own good bit...the rest feels like Farcry......average at best.
I have hundreds of hours in AC/FC/WD and took a Ubisoft+ month just for this (AC Mirage was more than a month ago). Played Avatar only about 1/3 of that month's days (and only for 1-2 hour sessions) because it was so dull, boring and way too hard. Spent most of the month on Ghost Recon Wildlands (2017) and got that to about 80% of the whole map icon plethora. I'd consider continuing Avatar (even with the dull/boring story and dialog; voice acting was decent) If there was an actual easy/story mode - without eating and cooking, with working stealth, less gear crafting, much larger inventory and most importantly: with HUD markers that show me (from miles away, through plants/mountains/buildings) exactly where to go until I'm literally at that spot. Just like you can enable in other recent Ubisoft titles.
"MASSIVE" Fan of this game, all the great games this yr and its up there for me, really enjoying how immersive the world is due to its graphic fidelity I'd also add I don't like the movies so go figure
I don't want to sound nitpick but story can have minor change to be great to best- -The Sarentu have hatred vengeful feelings but grows more forgiving after twist in third act -RDA acting worst as possible to root with vengeful Sarentu main lead- finding imprisoned Na'vi would be nice way to describe how bad RDA are - allows options to lead friends to come with you to conquer outpost or hunting, to improve bonds and go deeper with their lives- what's their fav food, animals, plants etc or have sweet romance (writing purpose I swear). The worldbuilding is best but I'm not sold on RDA because their very annoying game mechanics
Reviewing this on a 4090 does not give a clear picture of what the game is going to feel like for most. I'm playing the game on a 2080ti and it is really struggling on 1080p high settings. I even stupidly bought the ps5 version hoping that the game would run a bit smoother but i was so wrong. I guess i will be revisiting this game in 2030 when most graphic cards can run this properly, because i do love the environment/setting. Proper review though.
If the bugs and issues are from before the Day 1 patch then how did u play the game? They stated you arent even able to boot the game up without connecting online for the day 1 update..🤨
Thanks for the answer! I heard that the outposts would respawn with a higher difficulty post game, but guess that info is wrong then. Thought I heard in a developer podcast of some sort. But nice with random patrols so there are some combat options after clearing bases etc.@@norzza
Dude i wish there's a button to just find aussie channels. GOD it's like the planets have to align to accidentally get served a good channel like this. Subbed.
I just find it odd that in a game world like Pandora, where your taught to respect nature and then have to go and kill hundreds of animals just to make small increases to weapon/armour. I love the world created by James Cameron but this is a "buy on sale" game for me.
They sorta broach this by removing you from the "greater will" thing. So if you go on a murder hobo tear, you'll lose out on some of your abilities for a while. And it also makes sense in a human way. Since the Navi you play was raised by humans and is supposed to be learning their way. But I also agree that it was done in a weird way. Seems like how a human playthrough would've gone
No way! There's an option that let's you skip the haking minigame? Edit: Jokes aside, I'm pretty curious if the player character can tame and ally with predator animals in the game like Far Cry Primal?
Wait, is this a new game? Isn't it just Avatar theme reskin of FarCry? How is this crafting a unique part for ubisoft in this game? Have you played farcry primal?

I think Avatar getting a bad reputation for taking different aspects from other games is Stupid. Call of Duty, Fornite, GTA, and so many other games do the same or worse and most will praise them for it. They have Parkour from Dying Light, Combat has Apex Vibez, the Sneaking mechanics are like Assassins Creed, The Map and Character progression is similar to Far Cry, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY it's Official Avatar Storyline and immersive environment.
They are anything but downgraded. Granted I’m playing on an 85”Sony tv on max settings and it’s arguably one of the best looking games on PS5 to date. Between daytime and night cycles including the bioluminescence some of the vista’s are staggering to behold

Pass ♻️ far cry garbage huge pass saved my money at least was excited for this but knew it would be a let down by what I see so far
No I'll wait later on down the line too many other games to play
No, beautiful graphics alone aren't enough for me anymore, the game itself looks really "been here, done that".

I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😊 There are some good elements but I couldn't get behind some of it.
Same, can’t wait to play it when it comes out tomorrow 😊😊😊😊 I’m excited
One of the few? Bruh it’s one of the biggest franchises of all time.
@njunge34 Yeah, but it's not the story. it's renowned for
assassins creed far cry these games are just a copy of a copy same thing over and over this is just a far cry 7 with blue people

Just don't use them there are 4 weapon slots and 4 primitive weapon types and only your 4 assigned weapons count towards your overall combat rating
You don’t need to use the human weapons at all

I want to try this game but not really sure if it's worth the full retail price. I'm shocked to hear that there are no boss encounters
Wat boss encounters? A bigger robot
Why would they have them?
Most of the time ubisoft games doesn't have them aside from later assassin creed origin up to Valhalla.
@wingedhussar1453 you're on an alien planet..... maybe some of the alien wildlife..... derrrr
Ubisoft plus man, get to play the whole thing for $23. Seems to come with the season pass too which is really good value.
