Wonderful reaction! You got into depths of this. Many who've reacted focus on the message for women. This relates to all people of all ages. It's an important message. I just wish more people could hear it. Thank you.

Ren has such a way of cutting straight to the truth of a matter - it hits your heart the way he reveals these truths. And yes, we gravitate towards him and his beautiful music so devotedly because of how he does open himself up completely to us as you said, and he allows us to feel like we're not alone because we recognize ourselves in him and in his lyrics/music. Thank you for your wonderful reaction!!! And for opening up to us yourself - it really helps to hear that we are not alone in our struggles and that we should give grace to others because no one is without struggle - we're all human.

Very, very well said! I've never heard so many people listen to an artist and have these deep discussions about their own problems and insecurities. Allowing themselves to be vulnerable, as Guy said. I've seen even some of the toughest guys weep at his songs. Ren is an ice melter, for lack of a better way to say it.

    Great reaction!
With the false standards pushing us from day one (and i was born in the 70s so it's been that way for so long....) but now it's faster consumed because of internet connections.
I struggled with my weight yoyoing my whole life trying to fit in. When i was a child i started painfully shy and ADHD a mild stutter, dysthymia and slightly chubby (i was about 5 or 6), and started my adulthood with added cptsd, anxiety, DID, panic, depression and so much self-hate after years of severe bullying/ torture/abuse (all kinds). I used to look in the mirror and cry.
Even now, i avoid mirrors, despise the sight of pictures of myself... except for the old ones. I can see that i saw wrongly then, (i was pretty and even beautiful in some old pics) but now... I've become what i was afraid of. Old and ugly.
    I never felt enough.
They truly messed with my head and broke me. All because i was not like them. I was shy and had a mild stutter. I was smart and loved to read (still do). I was autodidactic when it came to reading and spelling, i loved words. Taught myself to read at 3. They made me ashamed to be proud of my accomplishments. They made me ashamed to be me.
Society and "societal standards" make people suck.
Pack mentality takes over and they, children AND adults, prey on the weak and the scared and the different. They break us and make sure we know we are inferior and will never be their equal.
I'm better now after many years of therapy, but i still bear the scars, some physical some emotional.
I now have all the grown up problems to pile onto those scars and sometimes they break open.
Maybe my emotional illnesses and battles wouldn't be as difficult if i didn't have that excess of trauma in my past. Who knows.
Thank you so much for your reactions and understanding of horrible things and making it feel safe to talk about here.
Stay safe and healthy and thank you again!
Blessings and hugs (if you don't mind internet hugs from a stranger lol)!

@TherapeuticReactions my bf is a lifeline for me. He calls me beautiful. I wonder how it would feel to be able to believe him.
I say thank you, and I'm glad that he thinks so... but I can't believe that he really sees that. Deep down, I'm just as bad as the plastic internet people. I can't see past them to find my own self-worth. But I see the beauty in everyone else. So I really wish I knew what it felt like to believe I was beautiful. Not in a conceited way, but just to know that my bf and my mom weren't just being "kind" or biased because they love me.
Anyway, thank you again and I'm so sorry that you, or anyone, had to go through the feeling of inadequacy from people who should have looked inside themselves and found their own sense of self-worth instead of lashing out.
Just know that you are absolutely enough and beautiful inside and out! 💜
To you and all watching and reading this, you are enough. You are beautiful and you are yourself, which is the perfect you. That's all anyone ever needs to strive for. To be themselves and know that they are enough. Those stupid photoshopped plastic ideas of people aren't real. They can never be real because real people have intricate details that differ. Freckles, dimples, cellulite, stretch marks, vitiligo, love handles (they're not called hate handles), tummies, thighs that touch, arm flab, crooked teeth, missing teeth, thinning hair or none at all, big feet, tiny feet, statuesque builds, rubenesque builds, lean, thin, androgynous, royal noses, button noses..... so many beautiful differences that give us our own character.
I'm terrified of dolls and mannequins, and maybe that's why. No differentiating characteristics that take them out of that uncanny Valley. We are humans. More people should learn to be humane. More people should embrace the beauty in differences.
Big hugs from an old lady who is still trying to learn how to accept herself. Lots of love
      💜🌻💜🕊

Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Sometimes good can come from this sort of adversity. It is a difficult tightrope between the expectations of society and the individual. I often wonder how ants and bees manage....?!
If we are honest, I think each individual is guilty of being on both sides of this quandary at different times. With the complexity of living within our own bodies with the 3 know "brains" of head, heart and stomach all making decisions for us' how we navigate the outside world and complex societal nuances is quite beyond my comprehension.

This song speak about such an important problem in our world. I think most of us, if not all, have battled these "standards" and lack of acceptance for who we are, in one way or another. The pressure to "fit in" and be accepted is so high that people get totally lost and don't even know who they are any more.
As a teen and a young adult I struggled at times but thankfully I found my own path and try to follow it the best I can.
As I have grown more mature and left my younger years behind me, I find that my sense of self, grow ever stronger and I am not as affected by all the "madness" of social media or even other peoples opinions. I am who I am and I like that person, the parts I do not like, I work on changing but I do it for me, no one else.
Thank you Guy for another honest and heartfelt reaction ❤😊 and thank you for sharing your own experiances with us 🙏❤️

I’m so glad that I grew up decades before social media but it was the 80’s and with the birth of the “supermodel “ those magazines were coveted …and worshipped. Nonetheless at the age of 13 , when HS began and puberty hit , I began *trying to diet away physiology that came with it . I was absolutely perfect, until I began dieting- and in doing so I dieted myself up to ~200lbs. [ It was compounded at home where I had a beautiful mother and a father intolerant of “fat” [ see every fad diet from 1970 on]! Then I started unhealthy habits, some helped me lose weight but slowly and over the course of several years I actually was supermodel thin… AND THAT TOO GARNERED PLENTY OF CRITICISM ( not from my father though; he was extremely proud) .
I still struggle even in middle age and when I see people chasing those “ 10,000 steps a day “ I shake my head.
When one of my sons ( a twin) was not hitting puberty but wasn’t eating any differently he asked me to put him on a diet.
ABSOLUTELY…NOT! I will help you change your diet but ,as someone who literally dieted themselves fat, my answer was No.
It turned out that he had a growth on his pituitary and need monthly shots at an endocrinologist and regular MRIs. He is now 6’7+ and although he loves to eat good food I watch him and it pains me to hug him and feel bones. This works for him because he is a fashion stylist and models but I worry because his brother also uses “ I’m fat. I can only eat 1 meal a day unless I workout. But he eats loads of junk.
