Really well-made video overall despite a few inaccuracies but I'm just a spelunky addict who knows too much about this game lol. I think one of the reasons this game keeps bringing us back is the randomness element of it mimicing gambling. You are technically always rolling the dice with the levels, and your success, while overwhelmingly skill-based, will depend on luck as well. Plus, being able to set your own difficulty through the choices you make is one of the most clever game design concepts I've ever seen in a game. Really glad to still see content made about this game. Good luck on your cosmic ocean quest.
There's a whole section I cut while scripting about the way boxes affect progression (1-1 jetpack goes crazy) and how it keeps people playing even if they can't get far on a normal run. Didn't feel like I could word it properly, but the gambling connections are definitely there for sure.
I've said it before on a different video, but whenever I hear that opening fanfare on the Dwelling, it always puts a big, dumb smile on my face. Also, it's really interesting hearing what is more difficult for other people, because I tend to always go Volcana-Tide Pool, as you can Ankh skip in Tide Pool and Volcana isn't terribly difficult unless you're psychopathic enough to have a pack on, and the lava isn't too bad for me since I like to keep a freeze ray on me, which can freeze and prevent lava from dripping into the drill shaft.
you can also freeze the shopkeeper, grab all the resources, grab the decided weapon of choice, and then leave. if he doesn't get unfrozen before the player leaves the level, the player wont gain aggro
Nice work. I agree wholeheartedly with 98% of this video. (But you're wild for thinking jungle is easier than dwelling. I'd take moles and lizards over bear traps and witch doctors any day of the week.)
Pre-nerf bear traps were maybe the most horrifying thing in either game. I think I'm mostly just traumatized by arrow traps from hd though, knockback on those is crazy

Hey, props for sticking with it for more than a few hours, I didn't mention it in the video, but I started and stopped playing a few times at first. I think I did 3 runs before putting it down the first time. (not saying you'll definitely enjoy it if you ever pick it up again, but if the entire video didn't clue you in, I'd say it's worth it)
