Something that can be helpful when meditating is just listening to all that is around you, really listen. The longer you listen the less loud your thoughts are. Another good technique can be to only acknowledge the thoughts you are having. A good way to do this is to say what the thought is but without giving context. Do not judge the thought as good or bad. All thoughts come, stay and then leave. There are two parts to humans. Subconscious and conscious. Your thoughts are not your ego (Consciousness), they are simply only thoughts that you can choose to believe or not. Be only aware of your thoughts. This will increase your awareness as well as help you understand yourself and not judge yourself based off your thoughts. Both can be used everyday, all day. It will take time. It will take patience, but you will get good at it and in due time it will all come as second nature to you. You can do both day to day and also practice during the times you choose to meditate. Any questions or if anything is unclear please reply to this comment. You deserve peace of mind and you'll find what works for you!! I hope this helps!!

You've just described exactly how I am. You described the pattern of Insomnia and then the depression, I'm hoping, I'm coming out of, at least trying very hard to learn more about quietening my busy, over active mind. I never expected to be going through this in my 70's and felt very disappointed in myself and blamed myself for getting myself into this state, when I've always been able to control my life, though now feeling exhausted and unable to cope with basic things. So thank you for discussing it. Please God I'll get to grips with calming/relaxing & getting the rest of my life back.

HOW TO CHOOSE RIGHT TECHNIQUE OF MEDITATION
The largest part of human body is skin. Skin of one entity can not be transplanted to the other but the own skin can be transplanted to the own body. This shows that the largest part of body of every individual is different i.e. every entity is unique. Therefore, it's functions like thinking, nature, action etc. will be altogether different to the other entity.
Now the question is, when every person is unique then how the same meditation technique will work for all persons or human at large. There are 112 meditation techniques are mentioned in VIGYAN BHAIRAV TANTRA.
To my experience of about 13-14 years in this line, I come to the conclusion that all the things, activity etc. known in the universe have both aspects, negative as well as positive one. Similarly, Meditation also have its side effects too. It is, therefore, very essential to choose the right technique of the same by the individual before going to start and not be the part of rat race.
There are two categories of persons according to individual's nature, thinking etc., Introvert as well as Extrovert. As per my experience, Introverts should not go for Silent meditation techniques like long term silent sadhna rather go for the mantra jaapa meditation techniques otherwise the very purpose of finding inner peace will be defeated and the Introverts may go under depression/anxiety. Similarly, Extroverts should go for the silent sadhna meditation techniques for achieving the goal of inner peace & happiness.
As we start anything to do, we think, search and then act. Meditation is the eventual task of life, why should we not take the same process of thinking, searching etc before starting?
This is a thought of my life experiences, rest is up to you.

So stop advertising it. All meditation is great. Personally, I love and practice concentration form meditation and it has changed my life. It bothers me when people are trying to make money out of free stuff that anyone can access it.

Why most of us concentrate on material things.
Material world is nothing but an illusion
The supreme truth is sri krishna beyond time and space and in srimad bhagwatam it is stated that "in kaliyuga the meditators who concentrate on lotus feets of supreme truth sri krishna the air he breath and the land on he walk simply became purified by his walking and breathing " And always chant maha mantra.
In srimad bhagwat geeta it is also stated the one who attaches his mind to anything will become one after the death in his next life, so better is to attach our mind and soul to the supreme lord maybe one would take 3 Or 4 lifetime but in the end will attain the supreme who is Lord krishna himself..so always meditate on the lotus feets of sri krishna.
No matter what is the technique of meditation.
    And please speak-
Hare krishna Hare krishna krishna Krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare.

I enjoy reflection meditation: "When you wish to reflect upon or consider a matter, you consult something within you. You say, shall I do it, or shall I not do it? Is it better to make this journey or abandon it? Whom do you consult? Who is within you deciding this question? Surely there is a distinct power, an intelligent ego. Were it not distinct from your ego, you would not be consulting it. It is greater than the faculty of thought. It is your spirit which teaches you, which advises and decides upon matters." - Baha'i Faith

Many will disagree with what I am about to say, but I hope some people keep an open mind. I have found two poles to meditation, the first is meditation on the material aspects of life. Sorting out our fears and beliefs that do not serve our lives. In this state the mind and heart have a talk and try to reconcile reality. The second type is surrendering ego and leaving the rational mind and connection to body to exist simply as consciousness and explore what ones spirit wishes the individual to experience. I have found that cannabis and other plant medicines can greatly enhance meditation if taken and used with the desire to deep dive into ones own inner workings. Now most as I said will argue that this is a distraction and has no real benefits, just people trying to take an easy path that is inferior to thier ideas of Eastern teachings. But ask the question then... Exactly what grounds do they base this on if they have not tried it both ways, can they speak from actually experience? Either way it should be an individual choice and not demonized by opinions. But if you find you achieve your full potential in the Eastern traditions that is a beautiful thing. But the traditions of Central and South America have some beauty and mystery that are certainly worth exploring also.

    Hi Tom,
I ve got no idea if you ll ever read this, but I see in you someone who might be able to help me in my long struggle with benefiting from meditation and I ve been looking all over the planet for that, so here's my question :
I was taught concentration techniques during my studies, and I used them extensively to be more efficient, happier, access stillness faster,...
Sadly it became a natural thing I was doing all the time, and when, during my first job, things went wrong and I started to be burned out, it's like my mind kept over concentrating as a reflex on whatever would come to my consciousness, which was, at the time, mostly stress and negative emotions. And during that process, I kind of got stuck on 'hyperattention' mode.
So my current problem is, when I try to meditate, my mind overconcentrates on whatever I try to do, think or feel, and that automatically produces a lot of stress, pain, and negative emotions quite quickly. The solution is in the meditation and I can't meditate!
Some guided meditation techniques help cause I don't have to do much appart from listening. But I can't feel and do everything I am told to or the overfocusing takes over so the benefits I get are quite limited.
Mindfulness is really difficult cause my mind jumps on anything I observe (which is mostly pain) and produces stress.
I have never tried transcendental meditation. Would you recommend that? Is there an online ressource that teaches it and offers qualified support you might recommend?
The ressource would have to be online because I have also been developing severe spine pain because of that stress and some accidents I had had before. Currently, I spend 90%of my time lying down so I probably can't attend traditional meditation trainings.
This has been a growing issue for 8 years now, and you probably can't imagine how helpful it would be if you could help me start over meditating.
    Best,
    G

The type you choose depends on your goal.

Try editing your video in a more concise fashion, one video with you talking the whole time can be a drag (try entering a slide before you speak of a certain topic, so your viewers can know which practice youre discussing, and the viewer can fast forward to their practice of interest). The information, nevertheless, was on point, thank you.

Look at him. Look closely. He is a true ex-douchebag. He left every shit behind himself and turn to meditation. It's clear he was broke at some point in his life, then he changed. Look at his hair, it says everything: "I don't care what you think of me, just listen what I try to teach you". It's a man who dropped most of his ego to the bin. That's what I see.

Funny you would recommend the most expensive meditation as the most effective. A meditation that "costs" thousands of dollars is only "healing" to the pockets of the TM people, and I guess yourself. Shameful.

Take a walk while listening to water sounds. While walking look for insects to capture with numerous small bottles which you bring along. The act of looking for insects will focus the mind.

    • @rebecascorner
      @rebecascorner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Why would you remove insects from their natural habitat? Look for the insects and observe them.
