I saw a dead fox on the side of the road, and i thought "I'd probably have to pay 50-100 for that pelt, let me take it home and skin it." Now, I'm not ignorant, and nothing is as easy as you may think it is. Now, people have been doing this for thousands of years with none of your equipment. However, after watching your skinning video, I've realized, im going to need some stuff and watch more of this before I decide to pick up a random dead fox off the road 😂. However, I think youve made it clear that with some decent equipment and just a little patience, it's feasible for most people. Hopefully I'll find another one in a few months after preparing myself better. Thanks so much.
Hey brother I really enjoy watching your videos. When i started trapping in the early 90's. What few old trappers were around. They wouldn't give you any information on trapping. But being i have been trapping since the 90's. And what i have learned. When a young person wanting to learn about trapping. I do everything I can to show him about trapping. Because trapping needs to be taught to everyone who want to learn it. Your videos teach me things about trapping. That i can use in my trapping. Thanks again brother and keep the videos coming
Great info on fur handling. I don't trap anymore but still enjoy reading trapping magazines and watching your channel and others. Living in South Carolina, you almost have to skin your animals before you even catch them! Keep up the good work.
Great question answered. STU the man, the legend! Make a trapping book and I'll buy it, sell anything and I'll buy it. Stu has helped out the old and the new trapping community greatly over the years. Support this gentleman
A taxidermist once told me I had an hour to skin a coyote before the fur spoils... glad I've followed your channel for more accurate information. Thankyou for the great videos!
I skinned a coyote for the first time, after watching you for years. You are the man, you are way better than I am. you never mention how back they stink. I followed your techniques. I am onto fleshing now. Thank you
It’s not the skinning for me it is the fleshing. So, my question is this. What is the best time frame on fleshing, skinning, freezing, then fleshing. I have heard 9 months on the freezing is the max because anytime after that freezer burn will set in. Any thoughts on this Coon Creek Outdoors?
In Manitoba Canada, I trap coyotes with power rams. Most times it's waiting for them to thaw out before I can skin them. On a 2 day check they can be frozen solid. I skin as soon as I can move the legs around and still I get the green belly. But I tan all my coyotes myself and after tanning the green is gone. The coons I catch are so fat in the middle of winter it's ridiculous. Had over 2" of fat on coons. Never had any color changes on a coon hide.
Love your videos dude. Working on tanning my first coyote and fox and your videos have by far been the most informative and helpful for my having little to no knowledge on the subject. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
So many factors. The bottom line is to skin as quickly as possible. I've had coyotes and even a couple cats that had gorged on deer gut piles from hunters, and man you you need to be in a hurry. I like your videos. Using that coyote leg to rest your hand on... priceless.
Stu,I have followed you for a long time, and you've taught me a lot..my question is,what do you do with the carcasses?? Thanks for the help, and keep up the great work!!
I'm new to trying to tan a deer hide. Your videos are very helpful and detailed on the steps to take with the entire process. Thank you for the guidance.
Good video!! Keep up the awesome videos! You gave me some very helpful information! I have caught a bobcat, coyote, several coons, and a skunk so far into the trapping season.
Another great video, something I do with beaver, fisher, martin, rats, is to skin them out and if I don't want to deal with putting them up at that point in time I freeze them. But to freeze them I bag them with a vacuum machine. This prevents freezer burn and you'll be amazed at how small that bag of fur will be once the air is all out. The fur will keep for a couple of years in the freezer with no damage.
Great video! Hey how about a catch clean and cook on squirrel? You've hung out with Mike enough. LoL. But why not I'm up for some different squirrel recipes.
Hey man, love the amount of very helpful information that you pack into your videos, im just getting into skinning and preserving hides and as much as I've had a couple setbacks and failures I've got a couple furs I'm working on now and watching your videos is a huge help because I still have only a very basic idea of what I'm doing and having help from someone who knows what they're talking about is very helpful and is very encouraging for me to practice and get better because you were definatly right about it taking a good few hours for me to skin an animal and im hoping to have it down pat like you do one day, thank you very much for posting your videos and I hope you have the best of luck in your future endeavors, much love from Ontario Canada buddy 👍
Building a shop now. Already have a couple of otters and mink hanging while building the shop and christmas plays. I love working with fur so much now im doing wolves and such for others henceforth building the shop. Great video and very useful for everyone.
Like always, great information! As another note, got my first Lynx last year and those cats have another problem is fleas. Not to mention they get green belly pretty quick. I have learned to take flea treatment out in the field with me to deal with them quick so I can skin the cat that much sooner.
new to the channel and trapping. appreciate you posting all these fur handling tips. i have hunted for years but never kept fur. not many people in my area trap so its hard to get good info. keep up the good work sir!
Thanks for the small channel support
This is exactly what I was looking for. Your videos are very informative and well labeled for the topical subject.🎉

Great guide! I often leave my backlog in my unheated front entryway, much to the dismay of my husband and mailman....

Long time follower. Caught first and second beaver this past week, snared the slide both same spot. And Duke 2 on house cat today, it ran.
Another great video from coon creek! Stu I’ve learned so much from you over the years. Thank you.
Thanks!
I skin slot by hand in the woods on the line so I don't have to carry the whole thing back and it's still warm when I skin them the hide just rips off
Thanks Stu!
Been waiting on trapping videos. Even started rewatching your old seasons.
good information, you are the master of beating around the bush.
Congrats on 100k!
Stu can you do a video on all things beaver castor? Like how to remove it and what our options are on uses?
It’s not the skinning for me it is the fleshing. So, my question is this. What is the best time frame on fleshing, skinning, freezing, then fleshing. I have heard 9 months on the freezing is the max because anytime after that freezer burn will set in. Any thoughts on this Coon Creek Outdoors?
I agree with Stu. I not let them sit for more than a day without skinning. Great video.
Great advice, thanks for the great info

We try to get it done same day in Nevada
