Ah, that’s why they rejected it. I see.
Which application are you talking about (give me the dates and the Russian leaders)
Russia joining NATO was never an imminent possibility. There was a period of cooperation but relations broke down. There were a whole slew of reasons for this; Kosovo, the 2nd Chechen war, Russian murders on UK soil, Putin’s increasing interference in former Soviet nations and his lurch towards totalitarianism.
It sort of sounds like you made something up and then slapped a faux Chinese proverb on the front to give it a bit of heft.

In practice I doubt it would solve anything. NATO already has members like Hungary and Turkey that are constantly at odds with other members and experiencing democratic backsliding. If Russia was allowed to join NATO without first proving their commitment to the values of democracy, peace and sovereignty then it would undermine the entire alliance. Not only would it fail to stop the war in Ukraine, it could cause long dormant conflicts to flare up across Europe.

I like idea of offering Russia Nato membership if it acts by withdrawing. The fact that won’t happen is not because Russia wouldn’t want Nato membership but because West wants Russia abd China to be “the enemy “ it’s more about distraction techniques from national politics than anything else.
Plus not so many decades ago we had USA on brink of war because Cuba was intent on having nuclear missiles pointed at USA. Adult diplomacy caused that crisis to end. What adult Statesmen or women does world have at present? Russia doesn’t want Ukraine nuclear weapons pointed at Moscow the ultimate end result even pre Russia foolishly invading Ukraine. In some ways it feels more like a Civil War which as we all know from history can be the most bitter and not easily forgiven on either side.
I blame USA and U.K. for sending specialist troops to train Ukraine several years before invasion this probably rattled Russia and I blame Putins vanity for wanting to take chunks of land that part of Soviet block not so many years ago. Ukrainian people are both Russian and Ukrainian by birth by marriage . Their children speak both Ukrainian and Russian. Their culture very similar this situation is a tragedy and the west is culpable for using Ukraine as a theatre of war and ignoring the extreme right wing Azov movement the envy of all fascist movements in Europe. Putin has the power to stop this craziness now and backtrack on his obsessions in a graceful manner or he can become the Big bully of world and drag the Russian people with him.
What concerns me most is it’s the losers in wars that choose to use ultimate weapons and I suspect Russia might loose a conventional war . Plus those around Putin are war mongers but the West has to stop and think before fuelling this war of neighbours. Especially when USA offered banned weapons that harm innocents abd farmers etc for decades to come. The west should continue not purchasing Russian goods and fund Ukrainian services give educational/ health aid etc abd help rebuild civil infrastructure but as for weapons….

There is no discusion with jingoist totalitarian/authoritarian imperialist states. Only diplomacy they understand is show of force. Russia felt that Ukraine was weak, that eastern Europe was bickering among each other, that the west was weak, and this is why russia attacked.

The lord's comment would only make president Putin usher a smile of vote of confidence from UK. It is undeniably impossible for UK to continue to be a safe haven for war mongering leaders, to use England as a foottool in enhancing their takeover or invasion policies of neighbouring countries. It appears that President Putin is losing patriotism of Russians, as the onslaught of drone attacks commences to hit Russia, without President Putin assuming condemnation of the attacks perpetrated by Russian unknown proxy making decisions for themselves having noted the emphatic iterations of President Zelensky not to attack Russian mainland. This is outrageously, scandalous for President Putin to address the nation on the move to circumvent the retractment of the stalemate pull and push war of Russian Ukraine invasion. The war must be given a resolution of peace deals to enable internally frustrated individuals looking to start a criminal ventures taking advantage of the Insecurities of both nations, as drug dealers from Russia and Ukraine might continue to pass the baton of power between themselves, turning a blind eye to the war, by forming insurgency. With due respect to the people of both Russia and Ukraine that are showing strong resistance to the war by continuing to prove common usefulness to human endeavour by assisting each other through commitment to serve families overshadowed by the war, aren't broken by depression in prevention of narcotic distribution in Russia and Ukraine. For the sake of children the war should rest in peace too many lives have been wasted which is deemed as modern slavery against both countries, people might not understand that tearing each to pieces was a result of their relationships in the Past . I personally think that President Putin believes that the war was lost before it even started on all corners of the world, that he has been planning to influence invasion by his authority, typical example is African countries not pressuring president Putin to ease off from military confrontation in very advanced civilisation. Patriotism ideology is underscore by helplessness of disunity propaganda and a system that degenerates into controversial RHETORICS that leads to disharmony and civil unrest of the divided nation.

no it wasn't. Russia (and the USSR) tried to join, the west rejected their application, not the other way around. The thing is Russia very much has a point NATO is an imperialistic and anti-Russian defensive alliance, and the west could've 99% prevented the Russian invasion of Ukraine if they barred Ukraine from NATO (and any military alliance) membership in exchange for a bi-partisan (Russian and NATO) security guarantee of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
This ofc doesn't excuse Russia' s imperialist invasion, but it was easily preventable by the West - Ukrainians are only dying and getting part of their lands annexed because the west wouldn't even entertain reason or diplomacy with Russia back in February 2022...

Subsequent events have demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that NATO was still needed after the USSR collapsed.
Compare and contrast the fate of these NATO and non NATO states.
      Non NATO members:
Moldova - partial de-facto colonisation by Russia. Russian backed coup attempt in 2023.
Georgia - partly de-facto colonisation by Russia.
Belarus - absorbed into the Russian state
Ukraine - Eastern provinces and Crimea colonised by Russia in 2014. 2022 Russia attempts to colonise the entire coast of Ukraine and its capital city.
Yugoslavian successor states: in the 1990’s they were packed full of Russian backed mercenary groups.
      NATO Members
      Former states of the USSR
      - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia: major interference by Russia but no direct Russian invasion or invasion by Russian proxy forces
      Former Warsaw Pact States
Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Czechoslovakian successor states and Hungary: no Russian invasions or attacks by Russian proxy forces.
“The Ukriane invasion is a manifestation of Russia’s attitude towards NATO”
Ukraine is rich in plunder and many Russians feel it should never have been independent in the first place. NATO or no-NATO it seems entirely plausible that the Kremlin regarding Ukraine with envious eyes, would slowly and surely drew their plans against them.
Remember Russian de facto colonised a large strip of Moldova when relations with NATO were very good.
One things is absolutely certain. Crimea would not have been invaded by Russia in 2014 if Ukraine, like the Baltic States, had been in NATO.

To "protect" you don't need NATO for that, Russia doesn't have enough power for a full scale war and they don't want to invade Europe anymore, Russia sells gas to Europe so why would they want to star a war? In reality for the US Nato is a big business a d Russia is the excuse for selling Weapons but if Russia were to be part of NATO there would be no need for such organization. Long story short, the U.S doesn't want peace it wants money.
