- Rabindranath Tagore has been the most celebrated poet and intellectual in pre-independence India. The creator of our national anthem is known to have controversial thoughts regarding nationalism and patriotism. In his book Nationalism, he talked openly on how nationalism corrupts the population to gain power while the ultimate object of unity and equality is left behind. He was also an ardent defender of dissent and was known to have questioned even the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. In today’s India, where dissent and disagreement are considered anti-national and nationalism has become a proof of your identity, will the Nobel Laureate Tagore himself be considered anti-India, a member of Tukde-Tukde gang?

Dude, actually Patriotism, as deemed by many, is inclusive of the notion of humanity, which Nationalism is often at conflict with. So, please don't confuse between these 2 ideas...Patriotism and Nationalism...many people do confuse. Actually, the subjects of humanities have been so neglected that even the basic humanist ideas which we read in history books seem foreign to people now. I am 2003 10th graduate, don't know what is the state of school education now-a-days.
