I have tremendous respect for Gandhiji's ideals. I may to be able to follow it simply because they are too difficult or require astronomical levels of self control. And that's precisely why I respect them. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video . Much needed in today's times.
    And really well made too.
People who criticise Gandhiji should only look themselves in the mirror and introspect. Its easy to judge and criticise a leader and idealist. But they should think whether they even possess an fraction of Gandhiji's restraint and determination.
    Thank you once again.

Preach non violence but set indian men in war for sacrifice for political gain.
His silence on many hindu massacre at the same time condemn violent resistance against such violence.

@@Barnil_JN Gandhi is respected because he joined India in his movement. Gandhi came in 1912. There was already an ecosystem starting from 1857 and even before that to oust the British. They tried with violence but they could not simply because India was a divided nation not only in principalities but also in societies. Dalits and poor peasants were discriminated and the poverty was abominal. Gandhi did not rightaway got into politics, his work with dalits, women and even peasantry united many fronts. His famous Champaran Satyagraha was a classic case of how only peasantry without depending on moneylenders and sahukars can attain freedom. All his movements were perceived differently by everyone. For women it could be to destroy picketing or alcohol shops or for Gunder tribes it could mean protecting their forests. One of the worst violence due to which non co operation was called out where a group of armed farmers blew up a police station in Chauri Chaura. He deitified Dalits led them come to Sabarmati Ashram, kept them in the Hindu fold because at that time Babasaheb was such a profound eccentric leader, his stature was exceptionally strong. He could simply steer a revolution with few men and he was a staunch supporter of the communist govt. Gandhi is idolized because his appeal as a mass leader no one actually could reach him in terms of his reach within people. From north, south, east, west within women, Muslims, hindus, Christians, dalits, rajputs and even brahmins. He has a strong role to play in making the modern India despite such complex diversity.

Such violence has no place in any society and goes against the principles of peace, non-violence, and justice that Gandhi stood for. Gandhiji once recited the Quran at a Valmiki Basti Temple in Delhi. The woman got up from the crowd and asked Gandhi not to do that. Gandhi asked, "Why?" The woman said it was "against our religion." Gandhi said, "I don't believe so." The woman replied that we do not consider you worthy to order our religion. Gandhi said to take the vote of the people present there. "Can religion be determined by votes?" the woman asked. Gandhi responded, "You are hindering my religion." The woman replied that he is illegally interfering in the religion of crores of Hindus. Gandhi said, "I listen to the Quran." The woman said that she oppose it.
Hundreds of Valmiki youths stood up for the woman and said, "Read the Quran in this temple, but before reciting the Quran in the temple recite the Gita or Ramayana in mosque.” Seeing the growing protests, Gandhi called the police who arrived and caught the protesters. 107 cases were registered against them. This is what Gandhi wrote about Moplah massacre.
My heart bleeds to think that our Moplah brethren have gone mad. I am grieved to find that they have killed officers. I am grieved to think that they have looted Hindu houses leaving many hundreds of men and women homeless and foodless. I am grieved to think that they have endeavoured forcibly to convert Hindus to Islam and by all these acts
The Mussulmans must naturally feel the shame and humiliation of the Moplah conduct about forcible conversions and looting, and they must work away so silently and effectively that such things might become impossible even on the part of the most fanatical among them."

Gandhi believed that by sleeping next to young women without any sexual intent or physical contact, he could test and strengthen his resolve to lead a life of celibacy. Brilliant work, Akash! I've just got a few days off after several exhausting weeks of office work, and this video has really made my holiday! I also wanted to add my own perspective here.
I've read Mr Guha's superb biography of the Mahatma, and from what I could understand, Gandhi's motivations for sleeping in the same bed as his niece were the same as those of a man who fears snakes, for example, and therefore locks himself up in a room with a snake in order to challenge himself and confront his own fears.
Gandhi, for some reason or another, was obsessed with sex, and he hated his own body's sexual urges. He was deeply ashamed of his sexual urges, and, in order to punish himself, he decided that the best way to confront them would be to offer himself to temptation - by sleeping next to a naked young girl. The logic is not completely wrong, although as you've rightly said, it's a pretty twisted sort of thing, and there are far better ways to come to terms with one's own desires.
However, at the end of the day, his experiments with Manu were no less and no more than the acts of people who hurt themselves in order to punish themselves for some kind of failure. I don't need to point out that in the experiments, both participants were consenting adults, and the experiment was successful in that no sexual activity ever took place, despite multiple repetitions.
I mean, you might call an old man a disgusting pervert if he actually has sex with a young girl, but how exactly is he a pervert if he insists on sleeping next to a naked one again and again, and deliberately does nothing each time? Isn't that the opposite of what perverts do?
He made it crystal-clear to everyone that the goal in that whole situation was not to get any sexual gratification from the activity, but in fact, to NOT get any kind of sexual gratification, and remain chaste and unyielding despite the temptation. When you've sworn yourself to a life of Brahmacharya, isn't that sort of thing the final test of your vows?
In my opinion, after reading Gandhi: The Years That Changed The World, any sensible person would come to the conclusion that his activities towards the end were the mistakes of an old man who had no one to counsel and advise him, both his wife and his faithful secretary having passed away. He was dealing with the grief of those losses on the one hand and the despair of his complete and utter failure to inspire his countrymen to follow his ideals on the other.
Finally, as far as the logic of blaming himself for the riots goes, Mr Guha has rightly said it that was a bit arrogant and silly of him to think that God was punishing him for his sexual urges by causing riots in the country. But again, I would add that that sort of thing also demonstrates his deep sense of kinship to his fellow man, and his idea that as a leader of his people, he was accountable to himself and his God for their actions.
Was Gandhi a little patriarchal? Yes. Was Gandhi a bit of a spiritual extremist? Yes. Did Gandhi have a tendency to be a little autocratic at times? Yes. But the faults pretty much end there. He was still a better man than most, which is why he's venerated everywhere in the world today. You're right, the Hindu Right can try all they want to destroy his memory, his legacy and his ideas, but as that wonderful actor said in that movie, "Mere vichaar teen goliyon se nahi marne waale. Weh hamesha kisi na kisi ke dimaag mein chemical locha karte rahenge". :) Jai Hind!

Gandhi was not an absolute pacifist as is commonly (mis) understood. He recognized that violence was an inevitable and inseparable facet of existence. Everyone and everything's existence is both creative and destructive, both being violent processes - be it the smallest sub-atomic particles or the largest structures in the cosmos (morphing from one particle to another is a violent process that is both simultaneously creative and destructive & in deep space stars and black holes are gobbling material from other stars and black holes -- so there's violence at all levels of existence and they help create, destroy, regulate as necessary).
What we term as a "normal" or "good" existence can also be immensely violent toward other humans, species, ecosystems, be they living or non-living. Our desire for resources - be it food, energy, manufacturing, drilling, mining, diamonds/jewelry/fashion etc. drives conflicts between people, causes genocides elsewhere, destroys ecosystems, wastes resources such as water, and wipes out other species.
But it is all OK. No matter what we do, this equilibrium would hold. Action or Inaction will lead to the same overall equilibrium.
If we live like a hermit or renunciate, then we will be accused of indifference and of not using our faculties to help others and protecting them from violence. If we do interfere in the world's affairs, then we will be accused of bias and not understanding context, and causing a chain reaction of violence. Either way, there would be violence.
Which is why in the Gita, Arjuna is made aware of his delusion that if he abstains from war there will be no violence, which is a fallacy, as there's always violence at every level of existence, no matter what you do.
Also Gandhi's reliance on affluent Indians such as Birla for support would have created future conflicts regarding the notion of Swaraj as people like Birla were for modernizing India and pro-industrialization.
No Indian today would suggest that India disband its army or its industries, even if they maybe harmful to the planet. But then again, is there any yuga or age when the planet was not harmed?
You can think of the divine as the number 0 - manifesting as infinite numbers (as both positive & negative numbers - as "good" and "bad") & thereby remaining in equilibrium (moksha). 0 is both NOTHING and EVERYTHING simultaneously. It is both the hunter and the hunted. It is both the victor and the vanquished. Triumph & Disaster - the two impostors. By experiencing reality through different forms and from every perspective/vantage point (lila), it remains in a non-judgmental equilibrium state, unperturbed.

Gandhi has 2 faces, one is political and the other one is personal
His political ideas are perfect for any sect of society to fight for their rights against the government
While in the 2nd face where he talked about personal life, he always started something with "In my opinion" so it was his ideology and he never tried to stick his opinion on anyone else head
His views on "Ram" has inspired me a lot and I'm able to relate his religious ideology with Shri Ram Krishna Paramhansa
Even if today a Gandhi comes to India, it'll be great and the best thing we can do is to try to live the life which is not only good for us but also for society, for nature and for the world

Dear Deshbhakt Akash, you have beautifully put forth the essence of Gandhiji, his ideologies, shortcomings as a human, yet a powerful internationally respected figure. It's really sad for us to witness such acts of hatred across everywhere and even frustrating to adjust to such an environment! Long live Gandhiji and more importantly his ideologies to bounce back in India for a true welfare state🙏

@@sagarkb3149 This video was not about BJP. It was about a person whose greatness is respected all over the world. But like everyone, Gandhi ji also was not perfect. What this specific segment did was contextualize many things that are spoken about Gandhiji to shade his achievements and contribution. It was balanced and thats why I appreciated. You can of-course make your monkey emoticons and thats your view.
