True. Of the GM cars I bought new, never had major problems with them. With major problems, it's a crapshoot. It can happen to any car, and imports are not immune. A friend once bought a Camry that had a squealing brake issue that wouldn't go away.
I find it ironic that a car being advertisement as having "practically all" of the standard features that an average consumer would want does not have "Cruze" control
I'm thinking about getting one of these. There's one at a local dealer, jet black, ltz rs, for only $23,675! It's a 2012 with 6 miles on it. It's getting hard to resist lol. Beats the 16mpg average I'm getting now :/
My parents have owned 4 GM vehicles in the last 25 years. None of them have had any problems. Chevy Blazer, Chevy S10 Chevy trailblazer and GMC Canyon. No problems at all. Idk why GM gets such a bad rep from SOME people. Must not know how to drive...
dygardion 91 The Cruze was designed for poor South American markets first (around 2007 or 2008) and then brought to the USA in 2011. Maybe cruise control isn't an expected standard feature in South America.
I think its just automatic single zone climate control not dual, but cruze does have a nifty thing to clean the air within the car as it circulates, like you find in luxury cars. I saw that button on a test drive at the dealer and he explained what it did. Looking at the cruze but dad doesn't like compact cars, doesn't think they are safe. Bout ready to say i'm getting a nice cruze for myself and be done with it. But so many options in GM I like. Choices choices choices.
@Zinizzle Thank you! Someone that gets it. All my friends and family drive imports and they are very reliable. I know a few people with some new and old American cars and they're always complaining about problems. In my opinion, Toyota, Mazda and Hyundai are the best non luxury brands. Especially with how great Hyundai has been doing lately.
The cruze comes STANDARD without a spare tire. You'll have to choose it as an option to get one. It costs extra. Which leads me to my point: You can't get the mpg stated with a spare tire. The mpg quoted does not include the spare tire as the spare tire is an option.
The Cruze is a very nice looking car, I see them on the road every day. They have a nice agressive look in the front and nice styling on the back. GM cars may not have the resale of a honda or toyota, but GM owners usually keep their cars longer because the engine lasts longer. GM's problem is they come out with a great car like this but the price point gets way to high, to fast. The models of GM's cars people would actually want, end up being way more money than the corollas and civics.
It's funny how everybody talks about fuel economy when they buy a vehicle and yet hardly anybody ever does the speed limit. Guys that drive pickups are the worst for speeding and then complaining about the price of fuel. Just by a car if it looks good and maybe a little different than all the others out there.
go test drive both. see what feels best for you. Just don't let the salesman sell you the car yet. and depending on the engine you want. if you want a V6 then go for the accord. If not i would opt for the cruze with the better mpg.
this thing is good because it's as american as an italian expresso. the styling was done by daewoo in korea and it shares the chassis with the opel astra j, witch is german.
Come on man, the cars that GM put together in the '70s and '80s had build quality that ranged from indifferent to embarrassing...this is a pretty well accepted fact by now. It isn't about who knows how to drive and who doesn't, it's about the millions of Americans who had American cars imploding on them no more than two years after driving them off the dealer's lots. And then stringing us along with fleet queens like the recent Malibus or Impalas certainly hasn't helped their reputation!
one big deal is the cruze actually gets good gas milage, better car than a elantra, or comp toyota.Plus the cruze is sharper looking than the compitition
@sgtbarone How do you like it, and how is it? I'm going to ask for one when I graduate since my brother got a 3 year old $15,000 mustang GT when he graduated so the Cruze will be the same age and maybe less price when I graduate when I graduate. Should I?
the engine on the 2008-present Chevrolet Cruze/ Daewoo Lacetti Premiere/ Holden Cruze Engine 1.4 L Ecotec I4 (t/c gasoline) 1.6 L Ecotec I4 (gasoline) 1.8 L Ecotec I4 (gasoline) 2.0 L VCDi I4 (t/c diesel)
being impulsive is what most people do go to a car stealer with no research at all and they buy (read lease) the first thing that they sell to them and then after just 3 or 4 years they get into another DEAL!!! and so on ................very smart..........my Honda accord 95 has 222,000 miles on it ac, engine, tranny everything works like a charm and guess what i drove that sucker every day almost 50 miles daily......enough said.
they do not waste their money. And mine was a clutch plus labor. Although, if you like highly priced, uncomfortable vehicles that have shit quality, the Cruze is for you. When you drive it for extended periods of time, your knee has no choice but to rest on the middle console making it very uncomfortable and painful leaving an egg on my knee.
@joewillgo well yea I prefer the accent but it costs 3k more than the versa so you can't really compare them since that's a big difference for their class
@rkjpsn I would have to disagree, resale value is a result of 1 thing only and that is desire. You have to want the car to have it appreciate in value. BMW Audi and Mercedes all have pretty lousy reliability but Audi and BMW have great resale value while Merc doesn't. This is because people are willing to pay more to have a used BMW over Mercedes along with Mercedes being huge fleet queens. Another important point is quantity, cars that are rental oriented have low resale value from saturation.
@heartlessvietboy I'm saying it's all about perception and quantity vs demand. It's very simple. A car that is bought up in great numbers for fleet services and rental companies make the overall non owned cars on the road increase, by doing this you increase quantity for a car that usually is not in high demand I.E. Chevrolet Aveo. That very same car also has a stigma of being cheap so the public doesn't makes it their 1st used choice driving down residual value. I have a Merc and love it.
How can I show you proof? The Cruz is a new car of course you have heard good things, they have not been around long enough. 28500 is only a lot of miles in one year it is average for two years and is still low mileage! Clutches should last 100000 or better. You can not find cruze parts at parts stores yet. Brakes for the car through gm are 250. Here is your proof, call your local gm dealer and get a price quote for a clutch replacement. This was a courtesy warning for my fellow citizens so that

Really? I have one, a 2012, bought it in Nov 2011, 29 miles on it, it was undrivable for 13 days total split over 2 situations. Mine is junk.
go test drive both. see what feels best for you. Just don't let the salesman sell you the car yet.
and depending on the engine you want. if you want a V6 then go for the accord. If not i would opt for the cruze with the better mpg.
The Cruze Eco model was rated at 42MPG by the EPA.
What I got off this review is that I should buy a Cruze used for an excellent value
First year car from GM? Good luck!
Getting a 2014 Chevy Cruze soon😈😈😈😈
@halesargent2 I live a 10 minute drive from the GM Lordstown, Ohio plant where I got to tour the plant and saw the Cruze being made.
this thing is good because it's as american as an italian expresso. the styling was done by daewoo in korea and it shares the chassis with the opel astra j, witch is german.
Should I?
They could though, the Cobalt SS did, the problem it had was the cheap interior. I just think they should.
the engine on the 2008-present Chevrolet Cruze/ Daewoo Lacetti Premiere/
Holden Cruze
Engine
1.4 L Ecotec I4 (t/c gasoline)
1.6 L Ecotec I4 (gasoline)
1.8 L Ecotec I4 (gasoline)
2.0 L VCDi I4 (t/c diesel)
Looks good, its basicly a opel insignia, but much cheaper
very nice car, I think I am going to buy it!!!!
being impulsive is what most people do go to a car stealer with no research at all and they buy (read lease) the first thing that they sell to them and then after just 3 or 4 years they get into another DEAL!!! and so on ................very smart..........my Honda accord 95 has 222,000 miles on it ac, engine, tranny everything works like a charm and guess what i drove that sucker every day almost 50 miles daily......enough said.
@saboobuu That antenna thing is called an antenna my friend...
Really is that a bad thing or a good thing?
Now a cruze ss would be nice, would be nice to have the 2.0 ecoboost from the sky/solstis would be nice to say the least.
hows the gear ratio on the manual transmission??
If you just bought one, you don't know the problems of the car yet. Break it in for a bit, and then you'll have an informed opinion.
138 horsepower?? how come the golf tsi produce 160 hp with the same spec??
I would like to get the Cruze.. But only till they make a 2 door SS version, hopefullly 260 hp or so
they do not waste their money.
I looks better than its competitors, but I doubt it will last as long! American cars never last!
I hope their is a diesel option!
Did they call it Cruze Control?
Try it with an open mind and you will be impressed.
My American model is junk. how reliable is yours.
Nice car, is it on sale in Europe?
What do these go for?
@joewillgo well yea I prefer the accent but it costs 3k more than the versa so you can't really compare them since that's a big difference for their class
@Zinizzle 4 runners i have seen have blown headgaskets at 200k miles
It can also be in how people take care of their cars.
This was a courtesy warning for my fellow citizens so that
Wonder if GM can make money building this car in the US?
@dale0038 Why what's wrong with your cobalt??
great review, like Chevrolet Cruze
My 1998 Cavalier is still getting 25-30 mpg overall.Of course,I have the Fuel Doctor-said not to work by the auto pimps.
