The colour never bothered me when I bought Carapar back in '07; I always loved the brown sets and felt disappointed when they returned to yellow/black/grey with Hewkii Mahri. I first saw/purchased Carapar in a shop in Whitby, a seaside coastal town in the UK, appropriately enough. I remember playing with him a lot; it's everything you could want in a set: Aggressive, bulky, but with plenty of articulation. Also I always thought that the shoulder and thigh armour kind of looked like shells; anyone agree with me on that?
@Ticobot after hundreds of years of hypnosis and brain manipulation by takadox carapar became dull and dumb, he tried to attack tren krom, a cthulu like deity that existed before mata nui, by surprise. If you imagine yourself as tren krom and you are alone against the federation of fear and one of the strongest member is so dumb to get caught in a surprise attack you probably won't thought twice to obliterate it.
I agree with Carapar being extremely basic in his main build, but I can't help but love that claw. Nice and imposing. As with Ehlek, not having a lower jaw really cements the whole "Creeps from the Deep" vibe for me, and I can forgive the majority of the color scheme looking like moldy cheese. A good set nontheless.
I think starting that year, 2007, the story explained any conspicuous presence of silver on sets as being -adamantium- "protosteel". Not that I mind, the more silver the better when it comes to bionicle sets.
@@Countcomfortable No, I mean Protosteel. It’s a very specific kind of rare, nearly indestructible Protodermis metal whose properties make it god level material for building weapons and armor. The concept of it was introduced around this time. In 07 and 08, virtually anything that was physically silver on the sets was explained story-wise to actually be Protosteel, from Toa tools to Ehlek’s claws to the 08 silver armors (Adaptive Armor) etc. And interestingly, Makuta armors. It was getting pretty overused by that point.
this guy was always my favorite of the Barrai. but i put the moving claw piece on top of the hand thus hiding the socket joint. it makes it look more like it's part of him and less like he is holding it.
Gotta say I dig his armor colors, it sells the sea-creature look extremely well to the point where I can almost imagine spotting his head lurking about between tufts of seaweed under the ocean. In fact, it almost works TOO well to the point where looking at him feels slightly disconcerting, which is definitely a pro in my book as I can't recall any other set giving me that reaction.
Carapar was my favorite Barraki. I remember that space in his torso was just large enough that I could put my Clone Trooper toys in his torso and I'd pretend he was a mech.
Usually grey recolors would be disappointing, forgettable at best, but I've got to say that this variety of grey is really nice - a smooth, cool grey that gives the impression of refinement, rather than depreciation.
I'm just waiting for Mahri! Those were the best Toa in my opinion, good variety, awesome blasters, Cool story (bro) and the breathing tubes made them really stand out from other teams. Buuuut I only have 2 of them, both missing a few parts, had 3 but lost the majority of him.
I remember getting this guy and Mahri Hali at disney world as my 1st ever bionicles I was about 7 and I had no idea how to build them I have carapar now but have not been able to get Hali sadly oh well
Another good review. Two comments: 1) When you fire the squid, you put it in upside-down. Due to the way the tentacles are placed on each side, doing it wrong makes the launcher less accurate. 2) Carapar's claw actually isn't natural. According to BS01, he owns two, but uses his Squid Launcher in place of one most of the time.
ah my first barraki, until he along with Avak decided to pick a fight with my jack russel terrier. it did not go well for him and then pridak came and learned from the mistake
I like this guy's reviews, they're high quality and it's cool that he went back and reviewed just about every Bionicle set ever. However, the only problem with him can be summed up with the Barraki squid launcher. Why doesn't he give us HIS opinion on every character? He goes out of his way to tell us that the points about the product aren't his opinions, but shit he's heard from the internet or community. Why? Why not just tell us what YOU think and draw reference from other people's opinions? In the "pros" he says the squid launcher is one of his functions, and that it's a unique piece. Then in the cons he says it's not efficient at firing and has an awkward shape. He remarks about how it's made of rubber in the pros and the cons! Just tell us what YOU think, man.
Yeah... I'd have to agree. I've always wondered why he cares so much about not stating his own opinions, when to me hearing peoples opinions are the most fun part about watching reviews.
I always hated that oaf's grey. It doesn't go well with that weird trans brown color. That random edition of black on his back is also something I do not like. Other than those cons, I think Carapar is pretty alright.
I still get chills whenever Caraprar rushes through the shadows and knocks the matoran out of the way in the Creeps from the Deep vid.
Reaper that mato ran is Dekar
@@thedarkonegaming9293 Wait you mean he is hydraxon?
He does mean that’s hydraxon
Too bad Tren Krom made it so the Red Star couldn't revive him. Now only four Baraki remain, with the exception of Takadox who doesn't count anymore.
@@thedarkonegaming9293 it’s hidraxaon
8:29 "Through vinegar use"
I don't know how you use your bionicles, but I certainly don't get vinegar anywhere near mine. XD

That's probably what it's supposed to be, now that I think of it.
R.I.P. Carapar
Velika avenged him by slaying Tren Krom.
Gatito Gatito It’s funny that Velika and he were both brown sets.
@@tranqle73 well it's ketorange

Carapar was always my favorite Barraki. He has a very muscular build.
I got the black one as a kid. Still big but a large unlike Carapar's Extra Large
All the Barraki use a blended color. Apparenly the armor color is created through mixing keetorange-yellow and transparent gray
What color does Mantax have blended?
"Through rigorous.... vigorous? Rigorous? Through very vinegar use...."
I seriously cracked up at that xD
His "dead seaweed color" is actually the keet-orange covered in transparent black.

Oh, it's not funny? Ok.
Did anyone else hear how he said "whoopsies". That was the best thing I've heard like all day
William Furno Studios he was wrong. We had grey vahki legs in keetongu.
Yep

I always enjoyed the Carapar/Takadox dynamic in the books. They make for an interesting duo.

Great review, I honestly love this color scheme! :D
I have his parts in an assorted Bionicle bag from Goodwill and used them to make my own Takanuva since I already have the mask.
That dead seaweed color is actually keetorange coated with trans black.
wish i had more of this series
i honestly like gappy spots in places like that cuz whenever id get the chance id pretend one of them got ran through with a blade XD
he had the best entrance in the tv commercial.
I love this guy! I have him, but there's a little problem.
I can't find his head piece and three of his armor pieces.
😵
I have realized that the squids seem to shoot better when you have the side with 2 fins facing up.
Love the opening skit!
When Mr.Krabs meets Bionicle
Thia color scheme is perfect for a insect-like moc.
Man I love Karapar, my favorite Barraki.
There's nothing like looking at family pictures
Ah,Car Parts over here was one of my favorites.I always loved his color scheme.
Car parts are fairly cool, but I prefer computer ones.
Collin Hernandez What about Robot Parts?
+Gramcrackr & Knuckles (Knucklehead McSpazatron) Or Private parts?
Andrew Homer ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Depends.
My favorit Barraki. He looks realy lifefull and I like his Tanklike Apereance.
One of my favorite and one the last i got for my collection
Is it me or does the barraki sets use the old joints instead except ehlek
Through vinegar use, many things become loose, not just Carapar's claw
One of my favorite Barraki.

"Through Vinegar use..." xD
7:55 dark red?
Does anyone know a reviewer who just gets really exciting and talks about how coool everything is?
not sure if its just me, but it seemed a little bright in this video.

every one calls him dumb but not to his face lol.
My favorite Bionicle
crabs have a carapace holy fuck
meme queen popcorn machine Lego must have done their research
I'm waiting for Ehlek
SH Legend Ehlek should be right after Mantax.
+1
Anyone else hear a weird crunch sound when he said recap?
It was Eljay accidentally killing a relative of Carapar. Crab shells are rather crunchy, you know.

"Through vinegar use", anyone else hear that?
vinegar?

I'm waiting for mantax
he reminds me of sid from ice age LOL
U forgot to mention his "delicious hips"
if I buy him Imma have to get 2 more of his claws because it looks weird

I misprononced it as "Car-rap-are"
CunningCondor Until just now I had always read over the 'a' in the middle of his name, so I thought he was pronounced "Carpar"
Speaking of misspelling and mispronouncing his name, did you know that Lego misspelled his name on the instruction book? It has it spelled "Karapar"."
Dem family pictures :3
