- Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist. Carnegie led the expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century and became one of the richest Americans in history. In the late 1800s the family would come to own an island on the southern coast of Georgia building many homes for the family the greatest being Dungeness.

It was built by Andrew's brother Thomas and his wife Lucy.
It is so sad that the house was destroyed by fire. I would have loved to have viewed the interior.

@@UrbanEyeAbandoned I'm friends with some Carnegie descendents. Stayed on Cumberland back in the mid 70s before the park service really took over.What a place!Except for the history of being slaveowners that is.
