Good ole times. RAM memory was scarce and expensive, so was the HDD space. Games came with beautiful cardboard boxes laden with extras and such. The whole game was an experience right into its box.
"These aren't clothes." "Our skin is naturally green and vinyl like." Max: "Good Lord he's buck naked!" Sam: So are you. Max: Yeah, but I'm cute and marketable." lmao, you just gotta love Max. xD
I remember, when my brother used to play this game, it was too complicated for me to understand but I'd ask him to play it so he could set up the "mini -game" where you painted the game's coloring book. Good times, when my brother wasn't a jerk.
I was confused too when my sibling played it. But with how it was played it was just fun to watch and see where it goes. Much like reading a book or watch a show/movie and figure the characters understand where things are going better than you and you catch up when you can
This game is amazing. It really explains what inspired the puzzle/gameplay style in the Tell Tale Games series of Sam & Max. Also, there are SOME points of this game where the voices sound like they do these days. Other than that, these voices of Sam & Max seem to be focusing more on the time period this game takes place in than the way Sam & Max act. They should really bring the TV show back, I miss Sam & Max.
Love these games. Ever notice how there's hundreds of lines of voice, but they use the same 5 sound effects over and over and over, even across games (DOTT shares many with SaM)
2:30:17 As a kid...I can't tell you know long it took to find out you just had to click on the right of the screen to finish the game. We did everything, exhausted every possibility. And all you had to do...was click on the right. There's just nothing to really indicate there's something noteworthy there.
It would be interesting if this version was merged with the TTG voice; give him that Brooklyn accent but still sound somewhat nasally but fitting voice for Max's stature.
I can see that...makes sense since Star Wars and Day of the Tentacle were LucasArts properties at the time...but I'm not sure why Bubsy is among the targets... Then again, I too would shoot that annoying bobcat. XD
Me and my dad both played this at the same time, at different computers, one getting ahead of the other at times, helping each other and occasionally checking our (printed) walkthrough. I didn't get to finishing it, but my father did. He died a year ago, I'm now 16 and I'd love to replay this sometime.
"He's not a real guy, Sam! Can I keep his head for a souvenir? Why do you suppose it's ticking?" "Stop em, Sam! he's going to tell us a story!" "Shut up! For God's sake just SHUT UP!"
The voice of "Wally the Wooly Mammoth" sounds like the voice of Barney Gumble: the character from "The Simpons". I wonder if it's the same voice actor...🤔
53:12 If this were a Sierra adventure game, this would be game over already. Sam would have died from his injuries and the British cowboy guy would have torn Max to shreds or made something out of him. Maybe Sam and Max should have waited a bit longer before hitting the Gator Golf, since they do NOT even have the necessary fighting skills to subdue or kill Lee-Harvey. Speaking of which, would you like to have Sam or Max murder Lee-Harvey in the game?
*rewinds a bit after the quote starting at 1:55:20* And I thought Sierra had a monopoly on the 'terrible puns' market.... It's a pity I missed most of these old adventure games, but I guess they'd be funnier to me now because I actually recognize more of the jokes (I was way too young then to have a clue).
Can anyone tell me at which point Sam says 'My mind is a swirling miasma of scintillating thoughts and turgid ideas.'? I've lost it, and I need to hear it.
A few made up AQ (asked questions): 1. Why is Snuckey's in the game? Well, we had to make up a convenience store chain because at the time, certain laws forbade Lucasarts from putting in a cross promotion with 7-Eleven or any other convenience store. 2. Why do all the Snuckey's managers have the same voice? We couldn't afford four voice actors for the different managers so we only paid one. 3. Why wasn't Sam bleeding to death? Lee-Harvey is much stronger physically than Sam. One, this is a Lucasarts game, so not much chance of a bad ending. And two, if Sam's blood was spilt, this would bump the rating to an M or MA15.
It is pretty damn funny seing this, after having seen season 2 and 3, and just how much has changed. Like Bosco's Inconvinience or Stinky's Dinner. Huh, so THAT is how they came to possess JJ's Hand. You know, for how often they fight, they never seem to get any better. Wait a minute, someone actually HITTING on Sam? That is a first (and a last)
There's Bungee girl, Ms. Hunny bunny, Mama Bosco and it would seem a new girl fell for him. Mr. Purcell posted a drawing on Valentine's day...though I can't say it means anything. Could be just playing along with the holiday. Oh! And not to mention the real life fangirls.
If you were to meet Sam and Max on the open road and/or at a Snuckey's how would you react? Personally, get the hell out of there like Max is chasing me because something awful's gonna happen nearby. It's not a matter of if but when with those two.
i wish i had a friend like you, somebody who play good games and point and click games. There aren't many at our school but much like bronies "throwing up" when we see somebody play an old point and click game we instantly become like buddies and can talk non stop about it but mostly because there are barely anybody who play or remember these games so we have a lot to talk about instead of blabbering nonstop about our fandom "sigh pathetic show".
Wow, I totally forgot that there was originally a Bosco's, a diner across the street, and that their neighbor was Flint Paper. I thought they were only made up by Telltale.
You walk through the beam and get thrown out. That's why you needed to program the robot to go in there so you could get the key from the VR machine in Lee-Harvey's room.
I intend to make a video for every line in this game as well as Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle & Fate of Atlantis plus perhaps the 1st 3 Monkey Island games. If I can get my older brother or someone else with the technical know-how to help I will use the recorded audio to make soundboard apps for those games or put everything into 1 big App. If someone reads this & decides to steal my idea just don't charge to much for it ok?
@cubex55 Do you think they would consider releasing such an app themselves or care if I had a program made for my own personal use as long as I didn't sell it to anyone, because I care more that I get to have a program/application like that than I care who makes it. If I can get a copy I will also start making videos of myself screwing around in DK64.
I think the comic’s author Steve Purcell still owns the characters. He currently works in story development at Pixar. (I was surprised when I saw his name on the opening credits of Brave.)

In all honesty I would rather games came on SD disks than in a large box which takes up space.
+Ryan Duncan you take up space too.
LMTR14 Lol, nice comeback, it really shows a lot of thought.
Ryan Duncan
that's all the time you deserve. plus you don't even understand what I said
...And the manual! don't forget the manual! We were blessed and we didn't knew.

I don't think the cute little robot wants to follow it's new programming, Sam.
I don't recall giving it a cute little choice.
LOL fucking love it
Max: “Sam, the guy on that pole’s got a marshmallow”
Sam: “So?”
Max: “I want a marshmallow!”
Sam: “Max, you are a marshmallow”
If i remember correctly the voice of Sam is also the voice of Goofy.
Bill Farmer.
I actually love the pixely graphics and simple music in these old pc games. The limited animation has a charm to it.
This is easily one of the all time greatest point-and-click adventure games. Even today, I find myself laughing my ass off at the humor.
This and monkey island
HOW'S MY AIM?

I get it now, HAHAHA!
I love longplays. They turn my favorite games into my favorite movies.
They had different voices back then
More New Yorker for both which fits

It's on GOG, so that's nice but I'd love a Steam release of Hit the Road, anyone else?
Hell yes!
Aaah good old times, only the coolest played these types of games. Still my favorite of the bunch! thanks alot for the stroll down memory lane
This is long overdue to be made into a movie- some of the funniest, sharpest writing I've ever seen in a comedy, let alone a video game.
The script and voice acting in this game is ridiculously good. I must have finished this over a dozen times as a kid.
Man, I've gotten so used to the voices in the new games, it was jarring hearing these ones again. Still love them, but took a second.
TJForceIX They're basically the same, just underdeveloped and sound too new Jersey-ish cop
I dunno. This game had Sam voiced by Bill Farmer, a man people know as the voice of Goofy.
Sam & Max will never get old!
I love this game so much.
Man this game looks great! Why didnt I get these games.....

1:50:25 Evelyn Morrisson is my favourite voice actor/actress in this one I think, absolutely perfect.
"Hi, my name is Rex" That voice has me cracking up every time.

Rasp, rasp rasp...
"He's not a real guy, Sam! Can I keep his head for a souvenir? Why do you suppose it's ticking?"
"Stop em, Sam! he's going to tell us a story!" "Shut up! For God's sake just SHUT UP!"
They used the same sprite and modified it! Three times, in fact; each of the three Snucky's clerks has some different facial features.

I love the Ball of Twine music. I can't really even explain why. Also, if you haven't already Mr/Ms Cubex, PLEASE do a longplay of Grim Fandango.
The Bigfoot chief sounds somewhat like Dana Carvey's Jimmy Stewart voice.
Thanks for this. One of the best adventure games ever made. I'd be peeing my pants if I wore any!

I only played the demo of this game over and over again. I decided I want to know how this game ends.
I wonder what it would be like if this game was made by Humongous Entertainment?
If they did, instead of the driving range, it'd be batting cages with Pablo Sanchez making a cameo.
+Patrick Spears Pablo you're off the team
They should make a Remake of Hit the road.
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID.
Next Exit.
