The arbiter should had left the issue till end of the game. The arbiter only mentioned the issue since Abasov complained. An arbiter shouldn't react to such issue when it's raised by another player. Anyhow, this is my opinion.
Nijat may be the weakest in this tournament, but that doesn't mean he hasn't got the right to complain against such a disturbance. Not to forget the great Bobby Fischer had the World Championship match against Spassky shifted to a Ping Pong Ball room bcoz he was distracted by the sound of a CAMERA.
The arbiter was right. Firouzja should know that stomping around with careless regard to other players is just not polite. Anyone who has been in a situation where quiet is called for, e.g. a library, knows that stomping or "stompish" noise from your shoes is something you should instinctively be aware of. That said, I really don't like this venue. There are posh hotels or other places in Toronto better suited for class events such as this.
The only place stomping is a loud manner is permissible is at one of those Irish dance performances. A while ago they had performers wearing trashcan lids on their feet to amplify the noise. But in a library or chess competition? That's a bit out of place.
@@misternewoutlook5437well he still wasn’t stomping. It’s just that the floor is not in good shape and his shoes are maybe suboptimal. I think him and the arbitor are both in the right but he didn’t really have a choice as he just wanted to ,,solve“ the problem
Since he was walking in the refreshing area, it means that he wasn't over the chessboard thinking. So I think Alireza is overreacting. The arbiter did his job very well. He didn't distract him. Also he stopped making noise while walking afterwards, which means that the complaint was valid.
Completely arbiter's fault. Why don't they check these simple creaking issues in one playing hall. He should've used some gestures in the extreme. And the suggestion to change his shoes midgame is insane! It was even the rest area. Besides, when you're thinking, a minute's interruption with conversation can really distract your line of thought for more than 5. Alireza is already so frenetic.
I don't believe any words from the arbiter, it looks like that they always trying to kick the smallest dog. Some years ago, Alireza and his opponent had to stand up and move their game from one desk to another... (try to do this with Magnus...) Also, an arbiter cannot cause any uncomfortability to any players, he is just there to judge if a question raises. Period.
The arbiter did a great job of explaining what happened. Unless Firouzja disputes any of the facts it seems that he handled the incident perfectly and Firouzja needs to focus more on his chess and less on getting upset and making excuses.
The arbiters response was clear but also ridiculous, he even talks about extra carpeting at the end (an actual solution) after trying to justify distracting a player mid game despite there being creaky floors and despite Alirezas shoes being approved. You talk to the player about it AFTER the game or you disqualify them for making unnecessary noise/unsportsmanlike conduct. If the floor is too loud it is not because of the player it is because of a poor choice of venue/no carpeting. These things shouldve been solved before any of the games have started and to ask Alireza mid game to adjust the way he walks because of a complaint is unprofessional.
It's sad watching Alireza's shift into particular set of players including Niemann, Inarkiev and so on. One could think that what he did before the candidates to Wesley was because of sheer and more or less honest desire to play, but now everything's clear.
Regarding the Alireza-Chief Arbiter situation, obviously not the best timing, but the chief arbiter approached it as well as it could have been in the present moment. Sucks for Alireza, but maybe this will prevent a more serious issue down the road. For example, imagine that happened in Round 14, that would have been much worse.
Of course Alireza has a heavy walk, look at his usual footware from 2:20 on in the video titled "Magnus Carlsen arrives in an upbeat mood for a must-win game | Freestyle Chess 2024".. 🙃 (ps:. for some reason I am not able to paste links)
Firouzja has always been nervy and anxious, lashing out and blaming others when he has a poor performance. It's like when he accused Magnus of whispering to him during play when the camera shows Magnus wasn't. Firouzja is a brilliant player but this emotional neuroticism is what will wind up keeping him from the crown.
A very interesting game indeed. As for the case with the footfalls and the chief arbiter, without any firsthand knowledge who could be in the wrong; in my opinion as a professional you should be prepared to take criticism impeded. Everyone involved in professional sports deals with criticism and most don´t let it affect their performance negatively.
Sad think...and according to the arbiter's speach i cannot shake out the feeling, that it was not unintentional. AF is just 0,5 p ahead of Abasov and so far it looks like, it will be battle to avoid last place between those two. In combination with the way AF quolified and some other rumors, it does not throw him into good light....
Alireza was always a whiner. I lost respect for him back when he was 17, and accused Magnus of talking during the game. And he threw his water bottle at the floor. Did he care then who he was disturbing or who has to pick up his bottle? Snotty brat.
I am not on twitter, but every time Twitter get's in the news, it is because the shout-outs made on it are on an emotional bases. So my advise would be to just not take anyone serious for what they post there. If people want to be heard, they should speak to the involved other people directly, not to the world via a platform. To encourage that behaviour, these platforms should be ignored by media, however newshungry they are.
Right....so further proof that Alireza neither is ready for the big time, nor that he should've qualified (by organising fake tournaments) ahead of Wesley So. Pity that Wesley isn't there, he would've raised the level of competition significantly.
I've been wondering if Alireza play to become a challenger, or he came to flex OOTDs... But I think there are better ways to flex your shoes than that...
The organization has been poor. After the very first game Caruana complained that the hall too small and there was little space for the the players to pace about. Gukesh complained the hall was too cold and he was shivering! Embarrassing, to say the least.
I fully support and believe the Arbiter. I bet Alireza was stomping about in some gawky Versace boots in a huff cuz he gave up a winning position again.
Bald guy should be ask to wear a cap as his head is reflecting light on players. He should be punished by making him signup on Twitter and post his response chip there.
In my opinion arbiter is right all he did was based on Codes , Alireza made a big mistake when he decided to exchange his night with Nepos bishop , now a days players don't play positional chess specially alireza , when there is a huge blocked by pawns knight is superior to bishop.
alireza should just go back and play with his buddies last late December coz he can only dominate on that level. on the top level hes just a crybaby and cant even do good
the aribiters attitude is a bit weird and insecure and defensive. doesnt seem professional. he should just say we're putting down carpet to solve the issue for the players.
We Indians were madly rooting for Alireza yesterday to ensure Gukesh gets the sole lead, but it looks like Nepo is destined to win this time. If he does end up winning the Candidates, hopefully he displaces Ding from the World Champion position.
Easy with such a predictions, Ian is not even in a sole lead, everything is wide open. 6 players with only 1 point between Nepo and Caruana. Indian players are doing fantastic, Gukesh and Pragg - just amazing performance so far, Vidit also, showing great character to bounce back after lost games.
Hello, out of curiosity is there a specific reason behind rooting for Ian to replace Ding in case of him winning the candidates, is this a popular opinion among Indian fans?
I’m not an Indian but I love watching the young Indians play. It’s nice to see some young blood and their aggressive style of play. Im American but Hikaru and Fabi are not favorites of mine.
Really, only people that have been under pressure to perform very well are qualified to answer that question. So there's something called the "flow state" that can be very hard to get into. Others will call this mental state "the zone". When in the zone, you are capable or doing monumental feats that you would normally not have been able to. You can be taken out the zone by the simplest actions though. That's why you see some teams calling time outs in competitive sports to try to disrupt the flow, or momentum, of a game. It's why some dealers at casinos will tell some craps players that get too hot to stop throwing the dice too high, or too low or just differently altogether. So when Alireza was asked to "stop walking so loud" or whatever it was, it didn't even have to be about his walking. It could of been a question or request about anything and that's all you need to take somebody out the flow state because now he's not completely focused on the game. Also, why couldn't that have waited after the game as well? Why during the game? Why not before the game? Delicate situations like these need to be handled appropriately and not in such a cretinous way.
I agree, but I dont' think it could have waited until after the game. There was already a complaint by one of the players. Before the game, Alireza had his shoes approved- I think that's when gets messy. Why should he have to change wardrobe if it was approved? At the very least, I think going forward they will have to implement either harsher wardrobe rules or install carpets.
If shoes are approved and there is no law about how to walk , then that's it. It is not his problem. They were morons to choose this floor and rhey should tKe responsibility not throwing it on others.
I was just watching the candidates tournament and Alireza's father was kicked out the hall for whatever reason, and they're also saying it wasn't his shoes making loud noise but it was the style in which he was walking. Keep in mind that it's not only a critical moment in his game but a critical moment in the entire tournament. I just wish we just see 100% chess and no outside interference during games.
@@xChefJesusx If it is not shoes then why this arbiter said bing another shoes tomorrow? Also we have no rules for type of walking. Same people criticizing him for saying Magnus distracted him now say arbiter was right? If the games need to be placedd in separate rooms do it but we cannot say to players how to walk. A nina can walk 100% soundless even with shoes but it is not normal walk.
The arbiter seems to have been reasonable in the way he handled the incident. Alireza seems to have vented out his frustration of not having a good tournament on the arbiter ⁉️
How about no shoes or sneakers allowed for any candidates or arbiters for the remainder of the tournament? People should have to wear FIDE approved socks only.
But then players would complain about smelly feet (which is what naturally happens when taking shoes off after having them on all day). FIDE knows that the building is old and has creeky floors, it should not be the player’s responsibility to solve this as they have no control over it. FIDE should have done some maintenance on the floors, maybe sound proofing it and eventually just reconstruction of the floor.
Alireza might be right that the arbiter’s action distracted him, but the arbiter‘s action seems to be perfectly justified, because both he (the arbiter) and a player (Abusatov) were disturbed by the noise Alireza was making by walking indiscreetly, before he corrected the way he walked. He should make sure not to cause annoyance to other players and arbiter, which he accidentally failed to do, so it’s his responsibility, the arbiter did the right thing, it seems.
Did not distract him, the arbiter talked to him in the refreshment area not while he was at the board making a move, and also the artiber didn't even interrupt him in the refreshment area and waited for Alireza to acknowledge him first, so yeah definitely there was no distraction ,Alireza is just a whiny baby whining cause he is not performing well.
Alireza is obviously on tilt here is why he made a spectacle of this. Carpet does seem like a good, standard idea when the dress code calls for or allows formal shoes though.

Typical arrogance of fashion enthusiasts when someone even points a minor issue with any of their piece of clothing. I'm pretty sure if the arbiter had suggested to walk more softly than suggesting changing of shoes, he wouldn't have been this offended.
Also reza could open his shop n walk , will not create any noise....
I feel like that arbiter handled the situation pretty well 🤷
dear arbiter, having an limited old building is your problem, there are many better countries to host the the tournament, first the visa problems and now having an old building. if you cant host then don't ask for it, nobody complained in Madrid, nobody had visa problems in Madrid.
Nice of you to show both sides!
Twitter is the best place to tell a story onesidedly and abuse popularity. Alireza isn't coming across as a decent guy and these stories will cement it.
Agree that Twitter is trash, but I wouldn't say that about Alireza. I think he just let his emotion get the best of him, and seeing as how he's already tilted in this tournament- I can see how it ended up effecting him over all.
Twitter is "trash" because of users like Alireza.
@@TyTimeIsAwesomeSo he’s emotionally immature and acting, as OP said, indecently because of it. That’s worth calling out in hopes that he changes his behavior.
@@j.prt.979 He definitely shouldn't have gone to Twitter, or at the very least let his emotions cool down first. There's a side to be had that he was treated unfairly, so him calling out the arbitor had to be done. He just went the wrong way about it.
i agree with the arbiter. i personally feel like alireza puts in a lot of effort and cares a lot about fashion. because of that, when the arbiter made a remark about his shoes being too loud, he got offended. i mean he's a kid
While everyone else was preparing for their openings and games, I guess Alireza was busy preparing for which clothes he would wear in which game. And which better tournament to showcase your clothes collection than the candidates!
He had the same shoes in every round and nobody had a problem with that. Funny coincidence.
@@mariuszpudzianowski8400 Then we need to find the reason why arbiter hates him so much! Or may be arbiter was just doing his job, but the crybaby parrot was just green with envy today! Who knows what would colour his mind tomorrow.
He didn't reach the top of the top level without working he took Ian out of his preparation and almost beat him but didn't find the right plan, seriously it doesn't take that long to choose your clothes so you're just trolling for nothing, you say he's too interested in his clothes but it's you who makes a big deal out of it every time instead of shutting your f*ing mouth because fashion doesn't interest you anyway
Gupta … im not comfortable with your back hole can you make it little bigger..
@@ManzarAlam-h5k I like the size of back hole of Allah, I have good fun with him
The arbiter should had left the issue till end of the game.
The arbiter only mentioned the issue since Abasov complained. An arbiter shouldn't react to such issue when it's raised by another player.
Anyhow, this is my opinion.
Nice improvement showing the clocks! Love your videos and your work! Wish you all the best!!
But he wasn't stomping though? It appears he was just walking around normal. I think that's part of the reason he was agitated.
@@TyTimeIsAwesome Well, Abasov was bothered by it, so...
@@misternewoutlook5437well he still wasn’t stomping. It’s just that the floor is not in good shape and his shoes are maybe suboptimal. I think him and the arbitor are both in the right but he didn’t really have a choice as he just wanted to ,,solve“ the problem
Alireza is just trying to find an outlet for his frustration in a tournament where he's seriously underperforming.
Since he was walking in the refreshing area, it means that he wasn't over the chessboard thinking. So I think Alireza is overreacting. The arbiter did his job very well. He didn't distract him. Also he stopped making noise while walking afterwards, which means that the complaint was valid.
the players are definitely thinking while in the refreshment area. these players can remember and visualize the board very well
@@willywonka6487 Agreed. But the arbiter said that he waited for Alireza to look at him. So he invited the interruption.
Alireza playing poorly and blaming everyone but himself. He needs to do better.
Aleriza needs to stop crying and grow up
Completely arbiter's fault.
Not change shoes, just shove some carpet down round the drinks trolley
Gukesh's beard unsettles me. Hes only 17. Id ask arbiter to get him to shave
Period.
as much as i agree with the arbiter i find it hilarious how serious this shoe complaint is being taken, chess drama never fails to deliver
If the shoes were fide approved its a problem that needs to be taken up with them and not during the game
At this point everybody including Magnus is wrong about Alireza. He's immature and wont win on biggest stage.
"Wahhhh, adult made me walk quieter for the better concentration of other players, wahhh, man evil, now I can't play 😭😭😠😠"
That's what he sounds like.
Aliriza is a cry baby. He needs to grow up
Regarding the Alireza-Chief Arbiter situation, obviously not the best timing, but the chief arbiter approached it as well as it could have been in the present moment.
(ps:. for some reason I am not able to paste links)
Embarrassing, to say the least.
honestly I dont understand why they would hold the top chess event in such a shit place that looks like an old abandoned church...
Alireza's father was kicked out of Rd 10 gallery for disruptive behavior. This is getting good.
alireza should just go back and play with his buddies last late December coz he can only dominate on that level. on the top level hes just a crybaby and cant even do good
the aribiters attitude is a bit weird and insecure and defensive. doesnt seem professional. he should just say we're putting down carpet to solve the issue for the players.
@@LosChudos apparently geopolitical reasons, india loves russia but not china
Also we dont love russia actually ,its just ussr helped us back in 70s
I’m not an Indian but I love watching the young Indians play. It’s nice to see some young blood and their aggressive style of play. Im American but Hikaru and Fabi are not favorites of mine.
Wesley So would not have created so much DRAMA - as DRAMA QUEEN Alireza
Arbiter was spot on.. but cut some slack for firoz a too. It was an intense position
Ok,that's it! From now on it's roller blades for all players & any complaints lose half your time!!!!😂😂😂😂
Alireza is a sore loser, doesn't even shake hands when losing :/
So now it was the arbiter's fault, what a snowflake.
The chief arbiter is such a decent man, it’s hard to find any fault in his conduct. How can you be angry with a guy like that?
The arbiter seems to have been reasonable in the way he handled the incident. Alireza seems to have vented out his frustration of not having a good tournament on the arbiter ⁉️
Alireza is young and immature to say the least.
Alireza is starting to sound like a brat. He should be embarrassed he was disturbing other players.
Alireza with this bad attitude will never be the No.1 Chess Player. The Arbiter was right.
What fool would watch only for the post analysis? We come here for you Antonio not squeaky shoes lol
Then there's bad lighting and air conditioning or heating noises....
Choose better building this is your fault for usong a bad building in the first place.😊
A spoiled child who betrayed his own country in order to show off his flashy design shoes all over
Oh those stompish Gucci's
Seems like sour grapes from Firouja to me...sooky behaviour
Carpet does seem like a good, standard idea when the dress code calls for or allows formal shoes though.
honestly I'm not sure why they are walking around as opposed to just chilling in the lounge.
Sounds like Firouzja was being a diva and making excuses.
