@@lawrencetaylor4101 Totally agree. A great teacher and to do it requires extreme understanding which is very rare among even accomplished musicians. She is a treasure.
Only five minutes in and I am loving your chord inversions, explanations, and actual application. Couldn't stand music theory classes in college but I am loving this one....Thank you!
Hello Gracie, just finished both Hooktheory books. It took me a month to slowly digest and repeat on my midi keyboard. Secondary dominants were unfamiliar for me but now there's nothing scary about them. You're a sunshine of painless theory in a bright happy day. Thank you for your radiant presence!
In my opinion, the length of the video is less important than the amount of useful information given and how clearly that information is presented. You have excelled on both counts! I love the amount of detail you exhibit! Thanks for another great job! 🙂
Thank you for another great lesson. I have learned so so much valuable information from all your teaching videos. This one lets me know how much more there is to learn. 😊
You have a unique beautifully mellow singing voice Gracie. And thanks for all the lessons! I'm beginning to actually know what I'm doing on my instrument and getting better everyday and it feels great!!
Gracie, you always to such a good job explaining things in multiple ways which are always so relevant to the bigger picture of theory. I'm no expert by any means, but I pick something useful up in every one of these videos I've watched, on top of just helping to solidify the things that I already (kind of) know. It is seriously such a pleasure to watch someone who is not only a phenomenal musician and singer, but a phenomenal teacher as well. Thank you so much!
I found the pace and explanation of the song analysis very clear and easy to follow, and as someone else commented it clarified the use of secondary dominants and how they are written! Thank you Gracie!
Thank you Gracie! This is a great video, as you have shown how music theory is being applied in practice via a song, which really deepened my understanding of music. I usually play Vietnamese songs in A minor on my piano, and it often has the pairing of E7 to A minor. Now I understand the theory behind why they work well together. Hope you can make more videos like this. Much appreciated and hope your family are doing well.
I really enjoy your videos for the past weeks. I accidentally stumbled on your videos and I find you’re doing an excellent job in your explanation, precise and detailed. Thanks .
Your explanations and teaching style are perfect. Using the piano is an awesome visual. I’ve been learning to play the Uke, but bought a keyboard also to better understand music theory. Made me realize a lot of chords on the Uke might be inversions. Thanks for the great videos.
Hey Gracie, this is very helpful😊 a nice way to integrate some of your former videos in a great lesson regarding the way songs can be build up. Thanks, you are a shining star among music theory teachers 🌹
Gracie you are such a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much for this video. I think I’ll need to review some of your other cord videos then come back to this one.
Well paced and perfectly explained and yet I know I would still freeze if I was given a chart with V of iii on it. I don't think my brain can comprehend the level of memorization it takes to become fluent in music theory. It's like trigonometry never really landed with me either. But thank you for your hard work!! You are a gift to the world of music.
Really grateful and thankful to you Gracie. Very well explained this is one of the first songs i learnt on the guitar. Thank you i understood secondary dominants today after so many years 😂 keep up the good work. My best wishes with you and your toddler baby she is very nice and lovely
This was great. I have not watched in a while but I really did not fall behind with this one despite the fact that I'm a bit rusty on some concepts. I especially loved the V/iii that concept always bothered me. The pace was great for me. Many of your earlier videos for me moved so slowly because you had to show so many variations to make sure folks understood basic concepts. While I'm no expert because in my singing these detailed ideas do not come up to often I get rusty on exactly what is going on with the theory. So much music only has the chod name for the key your in. Roman Numerals work so much better as they relate to any key.
Thank you . Great lesson !! Can you do the same analysis using the diatonic chords of a more ‘difficult’ scale . To see how messy this can become . And how to clear up the messyness .
Very nice explained, thanks a lot! Are composers think about hese thing when they write music? Or they are randomly noodling and find chords like "hey, that B7 sounds great, let's keep it here, even if it is not a diatonic chord!", and afterwards, someone like you find the logic behind?
Hi Gracie, I hope you had a Beautiful and blessed International Woman's Day. Thank you so much for your video, as always very clear and usefull. Queek question, using 2nd inversion of Em is better choice to resolve from B7 because of tension function of fifth dom of Em? I was practicing B7 2nd inversion and resolving in Em 1st inversion, sounds good, but if I do play B7 and resolve in Em fundamental, sounds like what you did on this video, which sound very well. Thanks again for sharing, God bless you, and your family, love your videos. Greetings from New Jersey😀🙏❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏💐🌹🌹🎸🎹🎷🇪🇨🇺🇲👏👏👏💐💐🤗🤗
Hi Gracie all good with whiteboard & piano demo please add treble clef on screen if that's not too much of an ask to see a complete picture. I like your teaching methods ie W/B & Piano also love your demo voice...you are incredible
Alas, I do not play saxophone! But check out my friend, Jay Metcalf, who teaches saxophone on TH-cam and is great! His channel is called Better Sax - www.youtube.com/@bettersax
There is another You Tuber that also does whiteboard lectures, and I find them unwatchable. Even for his "beginner" lectures he brings in advanced levels of modes and diminished scales, and he loves to talk about them. I decided long ago that I want to master triads before I move on with music theory. I know about seventh chords and upper extensions, but I don't want to be bothered with them for now. My piano/ukulele teacher agrees totally. He is happy with the progress I've made. I'm trying to learn ukulele chords with a Thoroughbass idea, learning with intervals. It helps. Two suggestions. Have you studied the Rule of the Octave? The Italian method to harmonize a scale. It helps keyboard technique, and also is a great ear training method, especially harmonization by parts. I suffer from Aural Aphantasia and don't hear music in my head. I'll probably never be a great musician, but I'm looking to play for the Paraolympics. I wished that I had learned about cadences before I learned about chord inversions. Would you say that this song uses a Half-cadence in the verse? And there is a reason many songs end with a First inversion, since it's a Perfect Authentic Cadence.
Gracie, you really are the best teacher on YT! Thank you lit'l momma!
Wow, thank you!
Politely agree. Whole heartedly.

That was great. Pace was perfect. You're the first person to explain the idea of secondary dominants in a way that made it click. Thanks!

Thx for making this didactic video so clear. One about Triton substitution would be very apreciated.
Good lesson, thanks Gracie

While the pace was rapid, it was thorough. My confusion stems, I think, from the inability to have a keyboard near.
GOOD JOB. But probably I need to follow earlier lessons to understand this one
I have to take a break from time to time……my head hurts! LOL 😂
Sigh...what a ride 👌
My Dire Tonic Chords sound horrible! 😂 Have a great day!
😅😅 jazz piano please
You sing better than you play.
