I'll miss yr podcast! I feel the Isolation Drills-Space Gun fans and the Tonics-Alien Lanes fans are distinctive groups that view the GBV output through different lenses. To me it's not just lo-fi vs hi-fi it involves the wittiness of the lyrical content and inventive approach vs. the rock feel. To me, the best record in recent years has been Please Be Honest as opposed to this one. To each their own- more than anything, I'm glad RP is still rocking out and people are still digging it
Weird how Bob doesn't bother with computers; Audacity and a cheap microphone is perfect homage to the lo-fi ethos, one that millions of musicians across the world must nowadays use
I think the reason that mainstream critics didn't cover them is twofold. 1) Bob and co probably don't "pay" for good reviews/press coverage anymore through a strong publicist. And 2) if I were a mainstream critic, I'd be a little wary of giving an honest/balanced review when a group has a smallish but extremely devoted fanbase. There isn't much of an ROI on giving them free press and then being attacked on twitter by a bunch of people 🤣
Ironically, Colonel Paper reminds me of "You're All I've Got Tonight" by The Cars. The riff is very similar, but given more of a Wire feel by Gillard.

Only other OG indie band that is putting out new quality music is Spoon imo. Space Gun really surprised me. So many great songs.
