My first concert without my parents I was 16. I ran up the bleachers to where George was walking to the stage to get a glimpse of him. He gave me the biggest most beautiful smile I will never forget! I loved his music I listened endlessly as a teen ❤️
After losing the Comedy for a year in Montreal, hope fully and heartfelt The Jazz fest does not take the same road...ugh...one year? Too long to handle...😢
@@greatunz67 You don't anything about me. What I have done or what I am going to do. You neighsayers are a dime a dozen. You neighsayers only project your ignorance. You have never played with anyone. I most definitely have. You probably have ties to The Inbred Hoover Family.
@@newphone4474 Yup, it was so much fun. Santana and Rob Thomas are really great people. I served in multiple foreign wars to earn such though. It really wasn't worth incurring the permanent injuries I have to my feet and legs just to play with those two though! The Navy refuses to pay me at this point. Nobody should serve in The US Military.
Wow. Just peak musicianship. Goosebumps. Clearly unrehearsed and interesting how they took a little while to figure the interaction, then just tore it up when they did. Carlos looking for the line, George giving him room, then magic. Wow.
the whole idea of guys playing together, for the joy of it, without the egos, is what made these times the best in music history. just having fun together, & playing their asses off. what more can you ask for??
Santana è come il vento del deserto, come la brezza della sera in un calda giornata d'estate. Come i colori di un tramonto infuocato. La sua è una musica eterna che ti fa accendere immagini, luoghi, persone e profumi.
2 guitar legends on the stage together is a once in a lifetime occasion!!! The goal of the guitar player is no doubt greatly inspired by viewing this classic clip!!!!
George Benson is a true master musician. At no time whatsoever is he ever trying to "outdo" Carlos Santana, despite having more than enough technical superiority to do so. Instead so, he is fully supportive of Carlos's playing, leaving lots of space for him to shine. Likewise, Carlos is humble yet comfortable enough in his own playing to do what he does, together with a bonafide jazz legend.
Ugh, technical superiority? 70s Santana was technical as fuck. Maybe you meant that Benson has more varied vocabulary than Santana thanks to his jazz upbringing...
Both great players but George is on another level from Santana.. watch some of his playing from from the late sixties and Also the late 80’s with earl klugh live, his playing is mind blowing..
Carlos played violin for a half dozen years in Mexico in his father's bands. A very melodic and underrated guitarist. George started out as a child singer before he ever picked up a guitar. Two of the most inspirational musicians I can think of. They make this Gabor Szabo song work very well.
This music and George Bensons Breezin album got me playing the drums after over 20 years without that joy, this is pure musicianship at its finest. Both drummer and bassist are possibly my favourite too. Just fantastic at feeling music.
wow- glad I found this- as both of these guys are legends. I wish music today was even close to being this good. Thank god we still have access to music from the 70's forward.
No matter what guitar he's played over the years, Santana has always had that very easily recognizable signature sound. I guess tone really is in the fingers.
to the haters: Shhh, they are playing music, trading licks and having fun! I would LOVE a tv show in 2015 that had LIVE music with great guitarists crossing genres! Who cares "they dont mix well", "not a good pairing." Shush, 40 years later, you have something to say to a guy that played WOODSTOCK and one of the best jazz musicians on the planet! ugh...
Love this so much. Real music, I was so very lucky I was to have lived through this incredible era. Watching Carlos playing guitar reminds me so much of Prince. 💜
Wow, I tip my hat to Carlos Santana .. I truly thought he would be out of his element, playing alongside George Benson. a great jazz guitar player!! Nice Job indeed!!
2 LEYENDAS VIVAS QUE REVOLUCIONARON LA MUSICA Y QUE A DIOS GRACIAS EXISTEN HACEN MUSICA QUE SE ADELANTÓ A SU ÉPOCA Y QUE NUNCA PASARÁ DE MODA, PASAN A LA HISTORIA
The difference is what makes this an amazing pairing for me... I love each of these guitarist in their own right. So it's a treat to hear them together. I'd have loved to see them each play one of the others hit song like breezin' and maybe 'samba pa ti' ?
***** I agree 100%. I would like to add that altho GB has the refined technique CS has the pure heart &soul. Here GB is joining CS on that same pure level.
Love both .....but Carlos takes this song to a higher level as he always does ,he is a master of feel and simply is outstanding in this duet,Benson was great butin aww of Carlos.
omer kishanov so true. Carlos plays so melodic so beautiful and his sound os so astonishing. Makes Benson sound puny and weak. Benson knows this deep inside.
When i first saw the title of this video i thought oh no George is going to be too good here for Carlos - but , Carlos did a good job of holding his own , I loved it.
Dave Strand I thought the same thing. George is so precise and his sound is so pure. Carlos has to feel it, but low and behold, he goes there about 2 minutes in.
I wouldn't doubt a 12 year old sounds better , i am not a Santana fan anyway, I also think I'm better than Santana , but like my wife said last year to me ,if you so good ,why aren't you rich? as we know great ability does not automatically mean you become famous and rich. I just thought Santana was going to be blown away by Benson and Carlos would choke bad , I've seen Santana really destroy good covers ,almost like he was totally lost and didn't have the right key .Santana has nothing for Benson .
William del Rosario Sad to see a supposed musician and teacher denigrate other artists in such a way. Not the kind of person I would want anywhere near 12 year old kids, or any aspiring musician for that matter. I thought this kind of crab mentality was long gone.
Two very different musicians making music.George is a Jazz master and is technically in a completely different category than Carlos. On the other hand Santana is primarily a blues rock based player who I'm pretty sure doesn't read music. What he does do is play with a sense of melodic and tonal beauty that has been rarely matched in the guitar world.So-two guys admired the world over for very different abilities that respect each other on a deep and soulful level.Remember-it's not a contest it's the creation of art.
Love your post & agree! Though you implied Benson read music. He & almost all guitarists prior to the recent explosion of music schools couldn't sight read notation. Doesn't mean they didn't understand what they're playing, because they/we still understood harmony & modes etc.. Knowing that deeper music theory that pro improvisers understand & "reading music" are 2 completely different skills. Cheers. & I love your reminder that creating art isn't a contest!
Rob Mackenzie You're right, but the difference was.. these musicians have always had the ability to play by ear, and a lot of them went through a lot of effort and learned how to read music merely to be able to communicate better with other musicians. Jaco Pastorius' interview explained this well. He could play, couldn't read .. so he learned...In the professional musical world, ability to musical reading is an asset
I remember watching this when it was first broadcast and thinking that Santana seemed a bit intimidated by Benson and was really trying to show his chops to prove he belonged on the same stage (he did). Benson seemed in on the joke and played along. A good time was had by all.
Absolutely hands down one of the greatest live improv performances anytime anywhere
Two guitar masters jamming and having fun. George Benson and Carlos Santana are amazing.
Well said
Just imagine if Gabor Szabo had been a 3rd guitar in this.

This is how you make music . True artists at work .
My first concert without my parents I was 16. I ran up the bleachers to where George was walking to the stage to get a glimpse of him. He gave me the biggest most beautiful smile I will never forget! I loved his music I listened endlessly as a teen ❤️
Playing Guitar and Touring with Santana was nuts. I am a talented classically trained musician and I still found myself in awe of his abilities!
If that is true sometime we just have to recognize the honor and privilege to be on the boat and enjoy the ride
After losing the Comedy for a year in Montreal, hope fully and heartfelt The Jazz fest does not take the same road...ugh...one year? Too long to handle...😢
Yeah.. that never happened dude lol

When you're life hits a bad time just listen to these two and you can rise above it,Thank you George and Carlos
Tht right

Wow! George is oneof my all time favorite singer-guitarist plus the awesome Santana. Superb performance. Love it!
Santana to George : You complete
Me . George to Santana , you had me at the Hello ..😅
Santana è come il vento del deserto, come la brezza della sera in un calda giornata d'estate. Come i colori di un tramonto infuocato. La sua è una musica eterna che ti fa accendere immagini, luoghi, persone e profumi.
The best! I was fourteen when this came out - never aloud to stay up that late Just Wonderful!
2 guitar legends on the stage together is a once in a lifetime occasion!!! The goal of the guitar player is no doubt greatly inspired by viewing this classic clip!!!!
Carlos Santana and George Benson. Love it!
Two great guitarists complementing each other's style all the way!
A great lesson for martial arts.
De Jesus great comment great like your name.
Magic before our 👀
YES! They compliment each other SO well.
Double Awesome👏
Both are my favourite guitarist & singers! Im a small not so famous musician, but I've enjoyed them for years!

I heard the opposite.
Ugh, technical superiority? 70s Santana was technical as fuck. Maybe you meant that Benson has more varied vocabulary than Santana thanks to his jazz upbringing...
Technical superiority? No

Every note is a blessing and all put together, an epiphany.
George Benson, The MAN
just drippin swagu everywhere
Simply wonderful. This is music and these are Journeymen of their craft! Marvelous.
Carlos played violin for a half dozen years in Mexico in his father's bands. A very melodic and underrated guitarist. George started out as a child singer before he ever picked up a guitar. Two of the most inspirational musicians I can think of. They make this Gabor Szabo song work very well.
👍
Queda demostrado que la música une a los pueblos. Esta versión nos conmueve. Que Dios los bendiga.
This music and George Bensons Breezin album got me playing the drums after over 20 years without that joy, this is pure musicianship at its finest. Both drummer and bassist are possibly my favourite too. Just fantastic at feeling music.
I'll take Harvey Mason every time :)
Hermosa época que aunque no volverá, la podemos disfrutar gracias a youtube. Viva Santana, viva Benson.
George Benson is one of the all time greats!
stephen tubbs
saw santana open for clapton during the ocean boulevard tour at seattle center when i was in the army. one of the best concerts i ever attended.
George brings out the best in Carlos!
And vice versa!
This is what i love about Santana he can take you to a better place, and all you have to do is close your eyes.
wow- glad I found this- as both of these guys are legends. I wish music today was even close to being this good. Thank god we still have access to music from the 70's forward.
🤯 Mind blown. Jazz-guitar heaven....
No matter what guitar he's played over the years, Santana has always had that very easily recognizable signature sound. I guess tone really is in the fingers.
Fingers and a cranked Mesa Boogie.
This is SWEET!!

Love this so much. Real music, I was so very lucky I was to have lived through this incredible era.
Watching Carlos playing guitar reminds me so much of Prince. 💜
no one had it expected but mr.Santana killed so much ...respect to both of them..they are supermen
That's because you guys think that Santana us just a little rock guitar player. But the man is Way so much more than that!
You know what? He is giving sign to his band when Santana plays his guitar. I love it. I need it. I should do this. Thanks Mr. Geroge Benson.
What I like the best is that they are enjoying playing together
The drummer in the background is in heaven.
Love it!!!! George Benson and Carlos Santana "Breezin" on the Midnight Special 1976!
I used to play George Benson vinyl records at weddings back in the 80's. lol I was fortunate to see Santana perform live.
like 2 dogs chasing each other around the garden lol lol but the magic is there, I love this type of fun in music.
+michael dickinson My face hurts from smiling!
Nice! What a find! Two legends! : )
Brilliant! Love Santana's soul and expression.. as for George he makes everything look soooo easy!! They are both AWESOME!
What a treat! Two of the best guitarists in the world playing side by side. Viva Carlos y que viva George.
Excellent this is good music - a gift to your ears!!!
nice-glad you like good music also!

These guys speak with their guitar, awesome.
Wow, look at those two gents having a wonderful conversation though their guitars!
I thought they mixed very well with great timing neither tried to take over looked like they had great chemistry in that performance beautiful music
complimentary. beautiful.
so true homie
beautiful how they play so close to each other without playing any of the same notes/riffs. very jamming:)
These were the days when we were entertained by real entertainers.
Many thank's for posting a quality performance like this one.
There are just a few people who can make Mexico's name shine... Santana you are one of these
Wow, I tip my hat to Carlos Santana .. I truly thought he would be out of his element, playing alongside George Benson. a great jazz guitar player!! Nice Job indeed!!
Two different genres of guitar but it came together as beautiful and joyous.
I love it when people think that Carlos is just this little rock guitar player. The man is one of the greatest musicians ever!
No lessons here unless they are both giving them to us. I love it.
two master chefs carving it up & dishing it out... :D

Increiblemente una de las mejores intrepretaciones que he escuchado y una de mis piezas predilectas por muchos años.
Ahhhh....true music is refreshing to hear. 2 legends 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Awesome guitar players. Awesome song!
Exquisite ...near perfect tonal expressions and voicing's. These artists complement each other beautifully...magic
Dois monstros sagrados da música numa performance única.
Thank you, TakeSixAdrian!
George Benson = Joyous music, very uplifting.
Carlos Santana also performed this song during his concerts. Bobby Womack has written a masterpiece for all guitarists.
Rock meets Jazz, they made it work.
Amazing

Too much greatness for one stage. I’m surprised the stage is not collapsing under the weight of such greatness.
A jazz composition that was a mega platinum record, doubt this will ever happen again - gorgeous recording
My house is by the sea just 30 meters away so I am breezin..............Awesome!
What a warm beautifull feeling..........
So together and yet so much themselves - wow who could not love it! A treat to watch and a treat to just enjoy listening to. Thank you for posting.
Wow, this is good. I just don't have enough years left to listen to all the good stuff....
Beautiful Classic Music! I do love...
Absolutely beautiful...Dynamic Duo....blessings
I remember seeing this on TV at age 17 and it's just as amazing today as it was then!! They so jam out from the 5:30 mark on!!!
amazing carlos is the greatest!
And they both compliment each other. Nice!!!!@!@
River flowing
ahhh. nice. I like how Carlos looks at George's fingers as if he is going to learn something.
Santana is such a humble artiste that he knows that he can learn from a fellow musician.

Carlos is a super melodic rocker. Melody is most important the speed.
looked the other way around towards the end
Carlos could play the telephone book.
George; not so much.
