I know this is an old video, but I tripped across it in the middle of a tough time in my life right now. My overwatch team fell apart, my Rainbow Six Siege team that made it into the pro league cracked under the pressure, and I am trying to find my way again. You have helped me remember the basics with this video. Record, Review, Process, THEN put into action and do it all again. I want to let you know that I really appreciate your video and you have earned another sub.
This channel is like gaming psychology 101. Wish I could've studied this in college lol. Thanks Mtashed . I've come to realize my BEST games are when I jump online, play maybe a match or two, being aware of tweaks I can make to my playstyle and call it quits. Win or lose, no more "I gotta end the night on a win". It's helped in the long run
Totally needed this. I just started watching my own footage a couple weeks ago but I still get into that habit of thinking I just need to play more and more. The crucible school is awesome.
Hey Mike - this video actually DID help a lot. Today, there is salt oozing from my very being - didn't have internet at home for 2 weeks, and only playing an hour or two here or there, was really trying to make it to the lighthouse this week. spent 10+ hours playing yesterday. The first few games were on point (no more than 5 wins on a card, and no steady team) but dramatically tanked after that. Made stupid mistakes and was beginning to feel like Destiny was like a bad relationship. I had almost given up on ever making it to the lighthouse. Prior to HOW I didn't play PVP (PVE only) - so watching you, hovey, True Vanguard and Demitrius - I have been getting good. My KD is way up. I don't care about top 1% that much, but just want to make it to the lighthouse. I sherpa people through raids, help randoms with nightfalls and POE. my karma will hopefully get me there one day, if not my sniping skills. keep up the good work with the videos. TLDR: this is good advice, and thank you.
This makes a lot of sense, Ive been working to get better lately and I've noticed the longer I play too, the sloppier I get as well because my brain is just tired. With all the videos I've watched I have taken the time to stop and look at my gameplay as well and in the past couple weeks I've made more progress than the past couple months combined because I have been stepping back and letting my brain absorb what I learn
Hey Mike, I have recently found your channel and subsequently kjhovey and True vanguards . . . you three guys are really on point with your videos and your skills are insane. Thanks heaps for trying to make the PvP community a little bit better . . i know I've improved after attending your crucible school.
You are completely right. This is how I myself improved my strategy and have been very successful in countering shotguns, and even blink shotguns. Being able to escape fights I'll die in, and much more.
Thank you for all the tips Mike. These episodes have helped me improve my k/d with 1.0. Keep up the good work you are amazing at what you do. Soon you will have 50.000 subs. And Thank you again.
So I started my vacations off with one goal in Destiny. Raise my KD and become better. I literary played around 7 hours of crucible a day for a week and watched your TH-cam videos and other TH-camrs videos. Nothing happened. I died. My KD went down. I got frustrated... I then watched this video... gave it some time. .. and just played for 1 -2 hours maybe and analysed my games.. after 2 days.. or less. I saw difference and started to get these sick plays and 2.0-5.0 KD games or even better. You just made my crucible experience alot better mate. Keep up the good work ;)
***** it is rewarding to beat the Meta with the none Meta isn't it. Too bad they are nerfing close range accuracy on all the scouts and pulse rifles. Sometimes I just have to switch to Thorn when the other team is full ham with the Meta though.
this video will make me change how i play this game. just recently got into "practicing" and spend hours upon hours getting salty in the crucible, not having fun at all and just being pissed that i don't improve. i'm an above average sniper, but my skills stopped growing months ago, i haven't been able to push it forward. I will definitely change the way i play. thanks for the vid!
This video makes complete sense, people think you improve when you practice, but you actually apply everything you practiced in your sleep wether it was something good or bad
i agree. im glad somebody finally shed light on the matter. my clan mates would bug me for tips and tricks to attaining great skill. i told them almost exactly what you said but i also implied studying the enemies tactics. i try teaching them to virtually read their mind in a sense, however, theres one more lesson i didnt teach them. and thats to recognize the third enemy. this third enemy works alone, preying on the will. and its this third enemy that keeps the player from truly grasping ones goal to better themselves. who is this third enemy? its the player its self. all its greed, loath, and laziness, eat away and shoot at you from the inside. its true goal in battle is to keep you from becoming you at your best potential. i digress, point is, you cant better yourself until you defeat the third enemy. you can sit hear and read and watch and shit all you want, but it wont help you until you physically buckle down to do it.
"Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect." - Vince Lombardi I agree with you completely. The best pros who have mastered their craft have also mastered the art of practice. Good tips! Keep them coming.
Reviewing games, and some of your other tips have brought my usual k/d from 0.7 to quite often 1.5-2.0 I just had a killer streak with some great plays, and in the review, halfway through I completely missed a guy on my 6, the path is long, but it's videos like this that helped me improve my game
Great teaching tips man. You have a great delivery of common sense information that is very useful without being condescending and that's rare in any teaching endeavor. Keep it up Mike :)
you know what? you totaly changed my way of thinking! ive always thought: "i gota get better" after watc hing this you have hlped me a ton! i am now in the 2%! thank you! your awesome! keep up the good work please! good luck in your future vids!
Had some really bad trials runs this weekend after stomping in iron banner, so im rewatching this series for the fifth time. May be a little late, but thanks for posting this stuff mtashed! Really appreciate it!
Awesome vid. Glad to hear someone promoting a play smarter, not harder "work ethic". There's definitely a point of diminishing returns. Props on another great video!
Being in the top 1% myself, I really like this video. I never record games, but most of the time I die I find myself making a mental note of why I died. I think thats the most important way to improve. Did you get your head popped by a sniper, well he's probably still there, dont go that route for a few minutes. Did you get double teamed, backpedal to your teamates next time. Use them as shields and let them take the initial hail of bullets. I think the hard part for less experienced players is knowing where the danger zones begin and where the safe zones end. Post up nearby the hotspots, not in them.
I completely agree with you. During the school year last year I was running a solid 1.75 total and 2.0 almost daily only playing for a little less than an hour a day. When summer came out I grinded 5-7 hours a day and I didn't get better. My shots got better but by the end of the day around the last few hours I got lazy, I wouldn't always go for head shots with snipes. I wasn't pushing correctly. I made careless super mistakes. And my stats showed it. Especially. Be used if I had a bad day in the school year it would only impact for that day which was maybe 4-5 games. In the summer a bad day could mean 20-30 bad games.
Bro thank you so much, im a call of duty player and enjoy fps including halo titanfall csgo and am just now getting into destiny, i started doing some of these tips in bo3 and ive really improved over the past few weeks
Thanks for the wake up call there Mike. I play way too long and you made a great point in this vid. I appreciate your vids, it's great to hear the tips and informatuon that you provide. Your Crucible School has made a difference in my game. Thank you and keep the info coming.
don't know if you still keep up with these comments but with this video and the advice I got from it took me to a while new level. i used to be a very mediocre crucible player. my overall kd was forever 0.7. until I saw this video. after I watched it a year ago, I have improved my overall kd to a little above 1.0 and counting. I have also gone from the bottom 50% of Trials players to the top 15%. I know it's not God tier but that means I'm better than 85% of the destiny community. statistically at least. so thank you for this.
Couldn't agree more. All the top performers in life whether it be sports, the military whatever, always review performance and look for improvements. They may not find a 10% improvement but if they find a hundred 0.1% improvements then that's a big difference. Good work, Mike. Keep it up ..... and I'm glad you're not on Xbox so I won't appear on the sticky end of your videos! :)
Late comment here, but you are so right about the brain being fried at night. I have my worst matches when Im about to go to bed (this is also around the time my group likes to raid, and the chances of us getting stuck on one part go way up). Watching your own gameplay is key. You feel like you are moving fast in-game, but when you watch the replay you see where you could have moved faster, or not engaged, or when you missed that sniper red glint off in the distance that got you killed. etc etc. Replaying is also an awesome way to catch Bungie's glitches, like the dude that didnt show up on your radar until he was right on top of you. Also caught a guy that nova bombed me twice in about 20 seconds. Still have no clue how he did it.
Hey mike, I just wanted to say I appreciate you trying to help out the destiny community get better at crucible! Keep doing what you're doing man #MTASHEDARMY
Yes it helped. It helped a lot. Last Iron banner I slept 3 hours on Friday and 3 hours on Saturday night, just 'cause I was too hyped trying to get that rank 5. And I always play 2 more games than I should. What happens? I get wrecked and I tilt and the loop begins. I end up going to bed frustrated and dissapointed. And sleeping much less than I should. Thanks man, you are a really good "advice person" hahaha
Hey Mtashed, I love your videos. As the House of Wolves came out, I got more and more into sniping and you and TrueVanguard have really been helping me just want to say thanks. Sadly never picked up any of the old high impact snipers, LDR, Longbow, etc. But still rocking it with my Benevolence. Sure you will grow in youtube like the other destiny youtubers. ; )
nice video. really like the tips and advices in here. personally i enjoy trying inconvenient weapons since they make me think of different ways to deal with the situation. not gonna say anything about the 1% percent, but i am fairly confident that i am a part of the 3% if not 2. so this video really helped me
This is no joke. I've been playing 1 - 3 games a day and watching the recordings afterwards for about a month now. Before I started I had a .6 k/d. I have a 1.3 k/d now. That may not sound like much, but it is. analyse your game play, try and figure out ways you could approach a situation differently and put those strategies into action. I do disagree with going with the meta, though. Most people don't even know how to use OP weapons properly and efficiently. Use what you like. Use what's most comfortable to you. (granted, there are some exceptions; I wouldn't use a shotgun on widows court.) The key is to have fun, and take a break when you're feeling discouraged or beaten down.
Agreed, I carry many of my skillet from other games including strategy games, in trials, my team usually let's me call out the plays based on what enemies are doing, and 9/10 the calls are solid and we take down the enemy team. I don't view my videos but when I die I think right then and there why, I usually get why I died and what my mistake was. No lag, cheats w/e, we are victims of our actions 98% of the time. Although reviewing my games might help, I'll give it some thought :)
I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of this video. As a guy who's frequently switching between not only FPSs and fighting games as genres, but various different games within the genres, I feel a lot of the points match up, especially watching the tapes and learning from your mistakes. That's a HUGE point that needs to be put across to A LOT more people. Sure, you can be good without it, but you'll never be great, or top tier. Any professional in ANY game watches and learns from their mistakes, and even from the mistakes of others. It's common to see people researching and watching their next opponent at fighting game tournaments so they know their matchup better and can perform much better than if they had gone in blind. Mechanics are crucial too, especially fundamentals. You can't jump into complicated stuff, like drag shots with Snipers, until you learn how Snipers fundamentally work at a deeper level than just, "I aim down the scope, and pull the trigger when the reticule is on their head." I hope a lot of people get a lot of good info out of this. Thank you, Mike, for making this video. I think it's one of the best looks into a topic like this that's out there, especially because it applies to anything professionally played or done, and not just FPS. Keep up the good work, Mike, I learn something new with every video!
I liked this vid at about 6:16 and then I saw the words "thankyou" and i thought: Shit he psychic super sniper nao? Anyway keep up the good vids man you eared yourself a sub! :D
About the bed part, I would do that but theres a thing called school and staying up on the weekends is what i like to do, its my only free time, i dont have much of it during the week
I love how he says the strangers rifle isn't good, as long as you are in a crucible playlist where attack doesn't matter, that thing eats the booty like groceries
I liked the video. Taking breaks isn't something I do frequently. I don't want to be in the 1 % though, I just want to have fun and I think this is a good tip for that too.
This is a great video man on of my favourite so far!! im glad to see someone trying to nurture healthy multiplayer environment. obviously with destiny there is no theatre like in halo and some of us dont record games on the reg but i like too stop even during a match and realize if i did something wrong try to learn from it on the spot. never actually reviewed one tho is it really that much better? also great point about the rest ive really been working on my sniping and i found playing 6-10 hours a day, which i was, was a huge mistake but not just because of bad habits because my mechanics were off reaction time was slow and reflexes also ur right u just get burnt out. this was because i was ignoring my health, mental and physical. i went to see a movie with my family, went for a run got a full night sleep, went for another run in the morning the next day made a nice breakfast and then proceeded to land 2-3 times more snipes than usual felt great to do. keep it up tash this is good stuff
can't believe i just saw this @Mtashed little bit of learning here for sure, and about your more recent videos about content and wondering whether or not you should keep uploading content or not, people watch your content and like it because of who you are the straight up-ness of your personality yeah there will be waves of subscribers coming and going but gut it out I'm sure it'll work out fine :) !
Awesome video, my mans! Thank you for the information! Had me rolling with the "your brain is on fuggin fire" comment, hahah 😂😂 Love it! Keep them coming!
I know this is an old video, and you probably won't see this, but can you discuss how important weapon choice is? Not necessarily the meta, more balancing your entire loadout so you can engage enemies at both close and long range.
Great information, as a 1% with my titan in kills. Also never using the thorn, last word and only shotguns for bounties, I like to gain any knowledge on how to get better
This guy should write a book mehn, there is some seriously good information here that all gamer should really take advantage of.... You are a cool guy bro....
I tried sniping for a week now and i got to say its more fun than running with shotguns. I have more kills with shotguns but less deaths with snipers. I'm getting much better because of your tips.
I agree with the 'less can be more' school of thought. I usually start out with some ok games and build up to a sweet hour or so where I feel as if I'm playing fantastic, then I begin to drop off. At this point I should turn it off or run some PvE, but I keep going and a few hours later I'm being destroyed and the salt is real every time someone kills me :).
AWESOME i was one of the so many who though that we need play 9 o so many hours to improve and at the end finish tired and pist now I have a diferent point of view i'll try that and see what happen thank you man thank you to share this and make this game more fun
Great video bro very clear and good tips, I have a 1.6k/d which I don't think is too bad considering destiny is my first fps I have properly played (daily). I bought it in march and I have been playing crucible seriously for around 3 months. Hopefully if I revise my tactics I can maybe improve to a 2.0+ with time, who knows... :) Also subbed I think you should have more IMO, I watch you guys a lot and you're all really humble with great skill, pleasure to watch.
10 months after posting, I'm just seeing this and it makes complete sense, I need to start recording and reviewing my games I think, see where I went wrong and correct it
Thank you Mike a few days ago i was way better that was when i couldnt play too long now i play a lot longer and tried my hardest but play real crap i think i need a rest thanks for the advice!
I want to let you know that I really appreciate your video and you have earned another sub.
this guy's gonna help a lot of gamers live healthier lives with this and the "tilt" video lol. great job man.
Brian Gorman thanks brian!
Mtashed you're very welcome broseph. i watch you and hovey a lot. great content, great attitudes, and amazing skill. huge fan!
Mtashed I'm never getting top 1%.
I go into TDM/Clash to level up my guns.
+The Last Word lol
+The Last Word guys I did it
I got in to the top 1%

Great tips, I started a file of notes full of mistakes I make, and good things I do. Keep up the good work. Sub earned!

Great advice, and something I have had to learn the hard way so far. Need that rest to process for sure.
keep up the great work
cheers
I liked this vid at about 6:16 and then I saw the words "thankyou" and i thought: Shit he psychic super sniper nao?
Anyway keep up the good vids man you eared yourself a sub! :D
About the bed part, I would do that but theres a thing called school and staying up on the weekends is what i like to do, its my only free time, i dont have much of it during the week
I love how he says the strangers rifle isn't good, as long as you are in a crucible playlist where attack doesn't matter, that thing eats the booty like groceries
This has helped so much. After watching this video I was already doing better the next day
I really like your tips. You've opened my eyes. Thanks for the help.
Good idea. I'll just use my destiny theater mode.
Oh wait...
I liked the video. Taking breaks isn't something I do frequently. I don't want to be in the 1 % though, I just want to have fun and I think this is a good tip for that too.
This is a great video man on of my favourite so far!!
im glad to see someone trying to nurture healthy multiplayer environment. obviously with destiny there is no theatre like in halo and some of us dont record games on the reg but i like too stop even during a match and realize if i did something wrong try to learn from it on the spot. never actually reviewed one tho is it really that much better?
also great point about the rest ive really been working on my sniping and i found playing 6-10 hours a day, which i was, was a huge mistake but not just because of bad habits because my mechanics were off reaction time was slow and reflexes also ur right u just get burnt out. this was because i was ignoring my health, mental and physical. i went to see a movie with my family, went for a run got a full night sleep, went for another run in the morning the next day made a nice breakfast and then proceeded to land 2-3 times more snipes than usual felt great to do.
keep it up tash this is good stuff
this definitely helps I'll slowly build my characters to my play style thanks tash
"13 fuckin' grenades!" I loled. Great video Mtashed.
A year on, and this is still very pertinent advice. Perfect practice makes perfect. Not just practice.
Great advice! Every Crucible player needs to watch this video!
Dude...this vid was spot on. I can take the advice you gave in this vid and apply it to other games that I compete in. Thanks man!
can't believe i just saw this @Mtashed little bit of learning here for sure, and about your more recent videos about content and wondering whether or not you should keep uploading content or not, people watch your content and like it because of who you are the straight up-ness of your personality yeah there will be waves of subscribers coming and going but gut it out I'm sure it'll work out fine :) !
Awesome video, my mans! Thank you for the information!
Had me rolling with the "your brain is on fuggin fire" comment, hahah 😂😂
Love it! Keep them coming!
Dude, those were like the best tips ever
Thanks so much for all the good tips, gonna help me out a lot!! You are the best!!
Ulkick thanks so much!
great vid, really sometimes peeps forget that the best way to improve is often the basics. Thanks Mtashed
I know this is an old video, and you probably won't see this, but can you discuss how important weapon choice is? Not necessarily the meta, more balancing your entire loadout so you can engage enemies at both close and long range.
This is truly sound advice. Somebody was paying attention during their Psychology class. Looking at you, Mtashed.
Schnemley to bad he's teaching us this with a shit game .
Mtashed 100% agree. Used to play A LOT of League and when I started playing Destiny I found myself using A LOT of my old League plays and tactics.
Very insightful. And very true. Learning a lot watching your videos and taking your advice
Great information, as a 1% with my titan in kills. Also never using the thorn, last word and only shotguns for bounties, I like to gain any knowledge on how to get better
Top 20% working my way up, thankyou for making this video your channel is awesome c:
2:55 RIP ABowlofFruit poor guy....killed by The No land Beyond.....
+Roy Marth lol good catch...saw him dancing..Mtash also killed blue, one of Mr Fruit's cronies.
bcd398 wow, looks like the Dream team couldn't handle Mtashed with a sniper.
Fruit was definitly dancing. tho Im 100% certain Mtash would have killed them anyway.
Fruit thought he could dance with death...he couldn't.
No land beyond is one of the best pvp wepons
This guy should write a book mehn, there is some seriously good information here that all gamer should really take advantage of.... You are a cool guy bro....
I love crucible school! It's helped me a lot. Thanks dude!
I tried sniping for a week now and i got to say its more fun than running with shotguns. I have more kills with shotguns but less deaths with snipers. I'm getting much better because of your tips.
Wow!! That just blew my mind. I never thought of getting better that way
Thank you, will take this to heart and learn from this. Well spoken and makes sense when you really think about it.
Thank you
I used to do this all the time with LoL, never thought of doing it here. Thanks dude!!!
I was getting burnt out by Destiny (both pve and pvp - I mostly play for fun) and this video helps. Thanks!
This is awesome dude. Thanks a lot for all the good knowledge!
wow i have NEVER thought of this before and it's brilliant, now i need to know how to record my gameplay
I used this advice and I am really good at sniping now... I've also been flawless in trials of osiris with the midas multi tool and LDR 5001
Thank you so much MTashed this really helped me I've been tired or doing 3 hours a day
Great advice. I'll take the time to incorporate it into my play.
AWESOME i was one of the so many who though that we need play 9 o so many hours to improve and at the end finish tired and pist now I have a diferent point of view i'll try that and see what happen thank you man thank you to share this and make this game more fun
Great vid defo helped me. i saw some instant results. Keep up the good work!!!
Great video. As always. Keep them coming man. You're an inspiration to us all.
10 months after posting, I'm just seeing this and it makes complete sense, I need to start recording and reviewing my games I think, see where I went wrong and correct it
This the second time I've watched this video and I just realized that at 2:55 he sniped Mr.Fruit! That is awesome! I still love Mr.Fruit though.
Thank you Mike a few days ago i was way better that was when i couldnt play too long now i play a lot longer and tried my hardest but play real crap i think i need a rest thanks for the advice!
