I love your channel, thank you! But on a serious note…I 100% agree with other commenters. I grew up with the original, and I always felt it was too small. Now it’s smaller? Not worth $80, which I’m sure was the price for the original in the early 90s. Makes me appreciate my parents that much more, and how even though they were poor, they made sure my sister and I always had an amazing toy under the Xmas tree!
If they didnt want to do it with size, they couldve just done the Sewer Lair instead and alot of us wouldve still been happy with it (as long as it was properly scaled) They shouldve taken the same approach that Mattel did with MotU Origins when it came the playsets
@@PlasticFlashback their only official reasoning was that they wanted to hit a cheaper price tag. They stated this on Facebook in response to the criticism around the downscaling.
@@PlasticFlashbackyes it does imo, especially if the figures the playset was meant to pair with has issues interacting it. Its especially prevalent with the ooze scanner having trouble going over the face of a any turtles like its suppose to do.
Same man. I begged my grandmother to get me the technodrome for Christmas and she for me one and I was so happy..my grandmother made my Christmas 🎄 I lost all my ninja turtles and technodrome over the years moving to different houses but with these re-issues they've been having lately, I almost got my whole collection back
thanks for the video! super detailed review and love the comparison and the pipe compatibility test! was sceptical at first but I think this is a buy for me.
Dang, I wasn't expecting to notice the size difference that much. That's too bad as I feel they are losing sales because of it. I wonder how much the cost difference would've been to make it the same scale , if it was really worth it for the change. I hope they don't do that to the Mutant Module.
@@PlasticFlashback Toy companies opening up on their decisions would open a whole can of worms, then they would have to explain why they did texture on the Remastered Turtles next
I wouldn't be surprised if somebody just wrote the wrong number down, misspelled or mis typed the dimension for the toy and that caused it to be undersized.
Got the the email a week ago but just canceled my order thank God they didn't collect my money yet this is disappointing and I was excited I knew it was smaller but dag!!!!
I’ve never seen an original in person and obviously never owned one. Would love to have an original but may have to settle for this one during Tax season. Also would UV resin be good to seal those stickers in place?
Damn! Thanks for the side to side comparison! That makes me just wanna restore my childhood one instead and steer clear from the new one. Why wouldn't Playmates just make it the same size as the original? smh
Apparently the original mold for the technodrome was likely lost in a warehouse fire they had. The original steel molds were huge for the technodrome which is likely the reason they downscaled it
@@PlasticFlashback cost cut would be my guess too, but I'd pay the $100+ for a 1:1 replica. I'm now also guessing they're gonna shrink the sewer lair too
my preorder was canceled and i didn’t intend for that to happen. now they’re unavailable or double the price gouged in ebay. was for xmas for my 2 yr old son too :(
Are the parts like the red and purple guns scaled down, too? I'm wondering how hard it will be to tell the new parts from the original parts on the secondhand market.
I was fine with the scale down, as long as the figures still worked with it, but making a playset incompatible with your own figures is a wild decision.
Yep, I did the same thing. When Mattel made their He-Man Origins vehicles and playsets, they improved most of them by making them bigger so the figures would fit in them better. Playmates have done the opposite, shrinking the Technodrome down so figures won't fit in it properly. I had the old Technodrome as a kid, which I felt was too small already, so they definitely cost themselves a sale by doing this.
Shrinkflation at its finest. Personally I could see this as a closed display to pair with my old Mega Construx TMNT characters, but it's probably not worth 80 bucks just for that. I can't imagine it's that much fun to open up and "play" with or set up scenes with it being such a tight fit for playmates figures, guess it depends on your nostalgia level.
I just got my email asking for confirmation to approve the delay. Any word what this is all about? Apparently I didn’t preorder fast enough and they ran out of stock?
@@PlasticFlashback thanks for the feedback. I’m hoping that I get mine. I was definitely banking on this for Christmas 😂 I picked up the pizza thrower, toilet taxi, party van and blimp for the kids this year 😅
Are people actually getting this shipped to them from Amazon? I pre ordered months ago and they haven't sent mine and all it says is "Not yet shipped We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date."
I paid 75 bucks for the original in 1991, this one is the same price but 3 inches smaller.... why? Why save plastic to get a bigger profit in an exclusive market where fans are the only ones buying and would have paid more for an actual re release? The original was crammed enough and now you can barely fit the figures in? Re releases are a cash grab, this is a cash grab and an unnecessary letdown.
Also, they own their original molds and their own factory. They didn't even imagine that 30+ years after they'll all be making money out of the same playset and still scaled it down to squeeze even more cash out of it? What a disaster.
@@PlasticFlashback I got 2 minutes into a Toy Crap SDCC 2024 panel video, and he was so off-putting, I exited out. And Shat-My-Pants Prime is the literal worst edgelord toxic masculinity bro-bag. 😅 Pass on both. I'll give you the views instead.

It’s really a shame that they scaled this down. The original one was already kind of small and this new one is just comically undersized
It inspired me to purchase a ton of Reaction figures today. 😂
@@c0nv3rg3 eh. It doesn’t do much for me as a vintage collector. The reaction figures do look good with it though
Maybe that had something to do with it- the og was already small so does the scale matter all that much? Curious to know their reasoning

hey man, just wanna thank you for posting this review. I have the original but getting this reissue eventhough smaller is still a good purchase.

To be fair- a vintage would set you back more than a little extra 😅

@PlasticFlashback yeah I know I meant I canceled because of its down size
Im not convinced that the pipe will connect to the sewer lair. It doesn't look like it will line up. Unless they shrink that playset down, too.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t- if I can I’ll dig one out and test it

That’s upsetting. I remember the 90s version, based on the cartoon I think, being blue.
