As a guy who was forced to sell his original technodrome during covid, and doesn’t care what it looks like and loves retro inspired toys, this toy seems perfect for me
I'm 43 and I'm starting to recollect all my favorite figures and playsets that I had or wanted as a kid. Unfortunately all of my original collection was stolen by floods that ripped through my area. So I'm collecting the retro remake figures and playsets. I've started with Masters of the Universe and I'm about finished I just got to get a few more figures, vehicles, and playsets, I ordered a Splinter from the original line that actually has a real fur like body, which looks great and better than the actual original. I've got a few gi Joe Classified figs and a Ghostbusters figure, so I'm getting there slowly, I want Thundercats and SilverHawks and a few more childhood favorites. I'm just glad that the toy companies brought back my generations toys and that our kids get to experience our favorite cartoon figures and playsets. Thank you for your videos you do a awesome job.❤
If Playmates calls this a re-issue that is pure false advertisement, since it is not the same, not even close. Granted some small differences to adhere to safety regulations are okay, but the size difference and the cheap plastic, no excuse.
If I was a TMNT collector I would be angry about this reissue. Why reissue the TMNT figures in vintage size only to downscale the playset? This is absolutely a cost-cutting measure and they're not transferring the savings to the customer here. Like Dan said "It seems a bit steep for what you get". He's right, it is steep for what you get; if this had been done to Castle Grayskull and/or Snake Mountain they would have been a definite pass for me. Playmates should be (they aren't) ashamed of themselves.
I agreed if you ask me I'd say that the eye part of it should be improved more by using the clips to hold it in place when the feature that makes it detach is not active as for the stickers they should have been printed on instead of being stickers
I’m a collector and I enjoy playing with the toys that I had as a kid. I spent 80 hard earned dollars on this in the 90’s and I was shocked to see it was $80 today. Now I’m not so shocked and I’m disappointed to see the corners that were cut. I would’ve spent a bit more to have a 1:1 recreation.
@@BowserTheThird man I can't justify a lot of the more expensive Super7 TMNT pieces, but if they did an oversized version like they did for the Party Wagon or if they did the city sewer playset, I wouldn't be able to stop myself haha
@ i really want the Technodrome, even a cool like cardboard backdrop for the sewer playset with like hard plastic braces and floors would be fine by me, cause Neca’s is cool but the cartoon look is not right with the playmates style of Super7
Mine has been on pre-order when it first was listed and it keeps getting pushed back (now I have a Dec 3rd ship date.). While I am not crazy about the push back again and again, I think it is well worth the wait. This will go up on display and look absolutely fantastic along with the other re-releases of this classic TMNT line. I get these items to display and for the kids to see and for some they really get excited (I am a librarian for 7th-8th graders.). You know you are doing something right when the kids say things like. “I have never been in a library this cool before.”. Yea, makes my heart melt and brings a super big smile to my face.
you know you messed up if even a positive guy who loves all things Turtles like Pixel Dan isn't ecstatic about this. Still, as someone who lost his Technodrome, I am still considering buying this, as long as international shipping doesn't ramp the cost up to 160 USD.
I actually love that that rereleased this! It keeps pretty much all the charm, and the slight scale difference makes it so they'll never be confused between the two. I'm surprised they went smaller though, they should know this is a centerpiece item.
The reissue Krang have a different peg hole size and fit perfectly with the new technodrome i saw someone that test it with the original and the retro figure !!! The original sewer lair pipe fit perfectly with the new technodrome i was suprise to find that !!!
I remember NECA was teasing a massive one like a year ago at this point and I have no idea what ever happened to it, I swear I saw a picture of the prototype that was like 3 feet tall at one point, that's what I've got my fingers crossed for
I am happy with it! This is one of the few things I never ended up getting as a kid, so I am happy to be able to snag one complete to put on display. The size differences and changes don't really bother me, although I share your frustration with the eye!
I think "unsuspecting turtle who's been strapped to the bed" is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. Like, I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree, but if I was strapped down, I'd start to suspect something.
One thing I wish the toy companies would do is make the new retro playsets and vehicles a little bit larger than the original especially for the price you pay for them. In the 70s everything was huge scale and in the 80s they got a little bit smaller and today the figures don't fit and the playsets and vehicles are too small. Come on Mattel, Hasbro, Playmate get with the program and make the toys bigger and better than the original ones. ❤
My favorite playset. Christmas 1990 or 91 there are pics of little me getting this and my dad and his brother playing with it before me lol. They unboxed it and put the stickers on for me. I played with that thing all throughout the 90s and it survived the house, a black lab, the garden, and a swimming pool. No rust, no lost stickers, just some missing parts and worn plastic. it was built like a tonka truck. I feel like they took out 10% of the plastic to keep the costs down because 1988 plastic molding is not the same prince in 2023-24. I'm sure back then it was like $0.10 per technodrome lol
It looks like the ramp for the eyeball doesn't go down as far as it's meant to. I had a friend that had the original as an X-mas gift one year so I got to see it first hand and I recall the ramp going lower to roll the eye at the turtles like a bowling ball.
It's so stupid they didn't just simply do a REAL reissue and use the exact mold - the ridiculous choice to make a "percentage" of the Technodrome probably saved them pennies on the dollar, if that. Totally pointless and a miss, IMO.
C'mon Dan these re-issues are not going to pass off as vintage versions. They are all stamped with the year made. Playmates got cheap on the Technodrone re-issue.
I never had the vintage one, I was always SO jealous of my friends who did. I've been tempted to get this new one, but with the price tag so high and the size scaled down... unless it goes on a major sale, I'm still gonna have to pass on it.
The plastic used on modern toys can be a real issue. I've had a few toys that straight out of the box are warped put of shape. Or some so soft the action features don't work. It's a real shame.
Oh man! I was a big Ninja Turtles nerd back in the day. I had the technodrome and ALL the other toys you could find back in the day and even had Ninja Turtles birthday parties. I am 43 now and wish I still had most of the toys I had back then. I am not totally sure but I think my mom still has the Ninja Turtles DVD's from Pizza Hut that had single episodes on them. Back then she was a manager at Pizza Hut so I had everything that came out there. I really like this new Technodrome even though it is a little smaller and whatnot. Would make a nice display piece in my opinion. Great video. Thank you!
Playmates has made some garbage lately. Almost all of the TMNT remake figures are missing like 2-3 colors of paint that the old ones had. The mutagen man one I got recently has only one eye painted and when I looked it up that's just how it is. It also is missing the pink parts, fingernail/toenail paint and skin color on the boots.
I’m 42 also, thought you were younger. I don’t have space, but I wanted this. Even did the buyers remorse & kept adding it to my account & deleting it from account (3 times) but it rarely was available for pre. Thanx for reviewing it, curious about the size, and I would love the tiny blue technadrome
Greta review Dan. The old one was one of my favorite playsets and I remember getting it for x mas it was my most wanted toy that year. I bought the new one and plan to just leave it in the box. I wish I never lost my old one it probably got throw out by my parents in the late 90s 😵
They shrunk Castle Grey Skull and it’s still super awesome. So if it doesn’t work for ninja turtles it will work for GIJoe or Star Wars. Man this thing looks super cool
Good on them not using AI to “remaster” the art on the stickers like Mattel did with the Origins Snake Mountain but shrinking it so where it’s not really compatible with any figures sucks
Wow I just ordered the ninja turtle van for my girls and ordered some more turtle figures and then I just seen they have 1988 articulated ninja turtles and they look awesome
I dont know about one the greatist but the og one was pretty awesome, the size thing is a deal breaker though on top of the exclusivity. This was the last playset i bought right before i put down toys for girls and high school
One thing I really do not like apart from size, is the front bottom piece, I am thinking of repainting it and also the sticker seems different. Oh, and I will definitely put some paper tape inside the eye so it stuck there (I do not care about the play feature)
I read somewhere that you do need the reissue krang for it to to fit properly. I had this playset as a kid, and honestly, I was so disappointed in it. The rooms were kind of boring, and it was way too small. Look at the pics on the vintage box. They had to remove the legs on the figures to have them sit in their sets. I think this playset killed my love of tmnt. It was one of the last tmnt toys I ever bought. However, I think the sewer lair is one of the best playsets made, EVER. I would have bought 1 or 2 of the reissue if it had been at least the same size as the vintage.
I hope they bring the lair playset back too. I had that but never had the technodrome. I can't wait to get it in a couple of weeks. I'm not going to get all of the re-releases because on a few figures, I've noticed they're minus an accessory or 2. I'm getting the classic turtles though for sure. I was going to pick up Casey and Rat King....then saw they didn't have what the originals had. I am going to get the first bad guys for this though ha ha. I'll open my Kraang when I get the playset and see if he fits properly.
I grew up with a couple of Ninja Turtle figures as I was phasing out of toys. I always loved TMNT but if I were collecting these and bought this item I would be so disappointed
This has got to be the biggest Monkey's Paw in a while. If they had to do a total retooling, and not just reuse the original molds, why make it smaller? If it was gonna be half hearted, and If the change in size and materials makes most of the play features worthless then why not just make a new Technodrome that's more show accurate and meant for display? I'm skipping this, unless it's like $10.
Before this was sold to anyone, when they realised that the eye was going to constantly fall off they should have redesigned it. There's no excuse for that sort of thing. 🤘😎
I just got mine yesterday, building now so that I don’t have to build it on Christmas morning. I don’t see much of a problem with the size for the figures to fit in. For the brain scrambler, just fold the arms and legs of the figure attached upward and it works fine…the ooze feature, yeah, it’s too tight of a fit although even on the old technodrome, I didn’t find it an “epic” sliming feature anyway…disappointing that the eyeball doesn’t “plug” into place, but mine stays in nicely and was even able to roll it across the room without the eyeball falling off. The biggest disappointment which was weird is that mine didn’t come with the ramp to go onto the technodrome, but came with an extra trap door…I emailed playmates toys, so hopefully I can get that last piece. I have never dealt with their customer service, so we will see…The 2024 price of $80…I had no problem paying as I know my kids will love this…and I already do. Memories flooding back especially with the sound of it rolling across the floor.
Admittedly it’s things like this that baffle me about playmates toys. It’s totally valid and understandable that things changes and that there needed to be a difference between the vintage and the new, not just from a historical standpoint but simply from the fact that the world that the technodrome was made and manufactured in no longer exists. So in essence, it’s totally respectable that things needed to be differentiated. That said, this is a home run that appeals to absolutely nobody, at least to me. The price is kinda high and far too under advertised for it to be sold to kids. The action features don’t work. An already sized down playset being scaled so dramatically is bizarre, not that playmates ever really cared about scaling per se, but it’s always appreciated in instances like these. So it’s functional, but not really playable. Alternatively for adults looking to either finally own one or fill a void in their collection: it doesn’t blend or scale with their old collection. It doesn’t function too great with a display due to it being so scaled down. It’s somewhat flimsy and fragile, it won’t really hold the test of time. It’s an exclusive meaning they realistically have a limited time or have limited accessibility. Maybe for like, those pocket techno drones if you wanted to have a few to flank that would be fun, but also extraordinarily expensive given that purpose. You can’t exactly treat a $80+ playset as an army builder. I’m not upset that changes had to be made, I respect that, but every single factor seems more and more a matter of cost cutting rather than a manufacturable necessity. Grayskull sold fine. The neca party wagon did great. There’s clearly a market for higher priced adult collectibles, and this rivals those in price while giving less than a fraction of the quality, be it paint, detailing, or playability. It’s perfectly fine and absolutely good enough for a filler figure, yet it’s too costly to really justify it as one. Idk, it just feels sorta emblematic of playmates as a whole. They’re fun and fine and work for what they’re going for, but too often fall short, too often are underdetailed and feel cheap, and too often lack the careful TLC of their older work. It’s definitely really cool, but I don’t know, it feels like it should be so much more than just “acceptable”. Not great, not good, not ok, but acceptable.
Pixel Dan I watched The Masked Singer and I saw the first clue segment for Strawberry Shortcake. One of the clues was a stuffed grey tabby cat. And I was thinking it was Aj Michalka because the stuffed grey tabby cat could be a reference to her voice role as Catra in the Netflix She-Ra reboot.
I am probably in the minority, but I think the use of more flexible plastic can be a net positive. The new materials would make the toy more drop resilient and greatly reduce the odds of wear and tear, leading to worn-out and snapped tabs and hinges. There is no excuse for ill-fitting parts or overall size reduction, but the change of materials would make the toy safer and more durable.
This makes me sad. However, I suppose a not-quite-accurate Technodrome is better than no Technodrome at all, so I imagine that I will still be getting one, at least as a place keeper. Thanks for the review!
Can see the TRT kickin' in, the barely contained temper underneath that professional friendly veneer, love it. Looking forward to Pixel Hench 💪 Gainzzzzzz GAINNNZZZZZZZ 💥
For the price point, which I know is an issue across-the-board with so many toy lines, I would have been much happier with a one-to-one, faithful reproduction of the original, maybe with updated stickers and slight color variations to every component so that it would be easy to tell the original from the new release, but also be able to purchase one that is new to refurbish your old one if you’d like. I never understand why with such a large market for reproduction parts, why toy companies just don’t offer something like that in some capacity. I’m not the biggest TMNT fan, but this place is absolutely one that I wouldn’t have minded owning, but I don’t think this Amazon one is it. maybe if we’re lucky super seven will end up making a techno drone the same size as snake mountain
Pero se nota a la distancia que este nuevo Technodrome está muy chico y con pocos detalles, el vintage por lejos es mucho mejor, saludos Pixel Dan Cawabunga 💪🏻👏🏻🐢🇦🇷😎
Nice vid, but are you sure that the new dome is smaller? From here, the dome looks the same size, and so does the eyeball. Just the base is smaller, and apparently peg sizes, but dome etc. looks the same size...? (Disappointing that it's made of soft rubbery plastic though.)
I really wish they just re-released the original since I don’t have the technodrome I am 18 and I would love to experience the original toy but it’s so expensive and we don’t have the money😊
Love the box artwork! The one thing I didn’t think of keeping as a kid… dang it!! I lost it at the walls fold. 😂😂😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Soft like the new generation. 😂😂😂

"Size doesn't matter," that's what all my girlfriends tell me............. and besides, YOU probably know all about that
The shock on my face when you started folding that shell like a NY pizza slice.
lol, no hesitation 😮
It would have been awesome if they could have gotten the original kid on the box as an adult on the box art.
DEFINITELY don’t need a reason to buy this, but wondering if it will scale nicely with the joy toy 1/18 stuff 🤔
@ The one I think looks awesome with this set are the Super 7 reaction TMNT.
They did something similar to this for the re-release of Gaiares for Sega Genesis. The kid that was in the ads came back & re-did them as an adult.

I grew up with a couple of Ninja Turtle figures as I was phasing out of toys. I always loved TMNT but if I were collecting these and bought this item I would be so disappointed
Cobra Commander is going to love his new digs.
Actually, some of my stickers barely stuck pretty much in krangs area, and the purple peg snapped on me by barely touching it.
I'm pretty happy with the size of the new one. Space is limited so its nice to have something a bit smaller.
Awesome video as always, thank you! I just wish they would release this in Europe. Paying 300 bucks to scalpers on ebay sucks 😪
These tmnt reissues are allowing me to collect some of my most desired toys. I love it.
This was my favorite toy as a kid. I remember playing with it often.
11:38 - That’s one of the reasons modern plastic is different, if I’m not mistaken.
I’m really hoping someone tries putting the joytoy turtles in it
This has got to be the biggest Monkey's Paw in a while.
And this is why I have watched Pixel Dan for years! Awesome review!
Got mine this week. I think it’s great. My sets eyeball fits on nice and tight so I think yours was just a QC issue.
It’ll probably look decent with Joytoy Turtles/villians
i had no idea this thing was getting a re-release! I always always always wanted it as a kid but never got. Holy wow i'm going to get it
Maybe Super 7 will build a larger one and design it better
I never thought I would hear Pixel Dan is out of Ooze! Glad you kids had fun.
Hi Pixel Dan, thanks for this great review and the awesome comparison time, it's definitely a most playset, stay heavy and blessings! 🤘
I was detecting some mild sarcasm there in the beginning
I can’t believe they didn’t think of a way to lock the eye ball in place. 😄
Ive still got my childhood technodrome and the eye ball never sat properly, it always fell straight off.
I didn't know there was a new Technodrone set.
I still have my original.
It is weird that they're calling it a re issue but kind of cool that there's a whole new version of the original toy
Making it smaller is a bad look though, I can't deny that
This makes me sad. However, I suppose a not-quite-accurate Technodrome is better than no Technodrome at all, so I imagine that I will still be getting one, at least as a place keeper. Thanks for the review!
I put the reaction figures in my vintage one. I bet they'd really be a good choice in this one.
Can see the TRT kickin' in, the barely contained temper underneath that professional friendly veneer, love it.
Looking forward to Pixel Hench 💪

GAINNNZZZZZZZ 💥
Damn they made it out of packing plastic
Pero se nota a la distancia que este nuevo Technodrome está muy chico y con pocos detalles, el vintage por lejos es mucho mejor, saludos Pixel Dan Cawabunga 💪🏻👏🏻🐢🇦🇷😎
Nice vid, but are you sure that the new dome is smaller? From here, the dome looks the same size, and so does the eyeball. Just the base is smaller, and apparently peg sizes, but dome etc. looks the same size...? (Disappointing that it's made of soft rubbery plastic though.)
Good review. Thnx
I really wish they just re-released the original since I don’t have the technodrome I am 18 and I would love to experience the original toy but it’s so expensive and we don’t have the money😊
Your issue with the eye drop action is you've got the forward gun holding up the ramp. 100% user error
Love the box artwork! The one thing I didn’t think of keeping as a kid… dang it!!
I lost it at the walls fold. 😂😂😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Soft like the new generation. 😂😂😂
I've noticed a lot of issues with these reissues. The figures aren't always fully painted. And don't get me started on the movie figures.
Im still happy it came out at least, but it shouldve been the original mold. I havent opened mine yet. Dope review though! I gotta make room for mine when i get a chance to open it.
