I’m in the academy right now and I’ve been doing ojt and from day one I came in confident and made sure that the inmates know that I will show them respect and stand on business! I was nervous but I have to put that game face on and not show that nervousness. They can sense everything and I had to almost prepare like I was gonna serve time with them
hey everybody is nervous in the beginning. give it time it’ll be almost like you’re an inmate blending in with them 🤣 you’ll be comfortable working around them once you get time
What’s the difference between custody and non custody in your experience? Are they all sworn CO’s? Are their shifts and work life balance different? Thanks for being responsive!
@andersonr4562 you the same as the officers, same law enforcement pay, same status, you just got a different job now within the prison, like if you officer and put in and get a counselor, case manager, food service, or facilities job. they considered correctional officers first, they can be pulled off they job to work a unit if we short staff, they can work OT on a unit with the inmates
anything i can do to try to help people as best as possible with getting hired on & be successful working in corrections i will do it. thats my mission! 🫵🏼🫡
I just had a tour with my county jail and it was kind of a surreal feeling having 100+ inmates sizing you up trying to intimidate you at once. Wasn't bad tho I'm excited to get going
don’t sweat it you gone be aight. most of the inmates more intimidated by you than you are of them. you just outnumbered. stick to your training, wits, & stay on your toes
@ appreciate it, I’m Hoping by the end of my week 4 I have a better grasp of the job and can confidently say “I can run a unit” any additional tips for working at a county jail?
@ man honestly the best tips you gone get is on the unit working with the inmates. sorry i can’t be much help right now, i just had back surgery, still in the hospital. check out my c/o playlist i got a bunch of videos on there. & got a few c/o scheduled for next week
@theghettobodybuilder I want to begin a career in corrections so that I can become a probation or parole officer . I am currently employed as a armed contract officer patrolling the outside fences . But I’m scared of interactions and violence with inmates. How do I get over this fear?/ how often will I run into severe violence ?
🤣 ive been there plenty times, won’t be the 1st or the last time. im glad my unit i stay on is dorm style, they bring the cart i just stand there while they come get their tray off the cart
In an uncomfortable situation, I ran into two inmates I knew from the street. I was glad one guy was in prison. He was an evil bum. He killed a homeowner during a burglary and was never charged. The other guy was my girlfriend's uncle. "Uncle Tony" was a low-level, Mafia guy. I think he was arrested for selling stolen dresses off the back of a truck (real genius). He was doing 9 years, so there has to be more to it. Tony or the G/F never asked me to do anything wrong. However, Tony asked if I wanted a knucklehead prisoner beaten up one afternoon..."want me take care of him?". He got out and was arrested again for stealing all the assets of a widow. The girlfriend is in the wind.
I am a Rookie Officer in corrections. For this past week I have finally been giving the opertunity of running the same dorm by myself. How would you deal with the stubborn inmates who continue to smoke and get high? How would you handle it? even the basics of disciplinary action dont work or stop them. Also thank you for making the videos and doing what you do sir!
you just gotta control you can, we just had one die from OD on a unit. its out control. long as they aint tryna attack you call for compound to come get em and take em to medical
Yooo I'm strongly considering joining corrections after watching your videos . One topic I'm interested in knowing about is the craziest hiding places youve seen inmates try to hide something? Also whats the top 10 craziest things you've seen ?
Hey brother, new subscriber, not sure if this has been talked about but are BOP correctional officers part of a Union? Thanks for the content keep it up brother 🤙🏼
@ don’t see anything about differences between county and feudal prisons. Would appreciate a video. Unless I’m blind lol, and didn’t see the video in your playlist.
in my 13 years working, 1 county jail, 2 different federal prisons. its mostly inmate on inmate fights & stabbing. staff assaults can and do happen but they aren’t that often
you know I been wondering are you a seargent? how come you choose not to be a liuetenant? Like you been there for a good bit bro/ Cause you know alot about this game or is the responsibility not worthwhile just cause you already rake in that 6 figures without being a white shirt? would love a video on that topic as you which position is best for what type of person
here’s the thing. once i figured out the lay of the land, i saw i can make more money the Lieutenants, & not to worry about all the extra BS and workload they have to put up with from the officers and upper management. Plus they don’t get to pick their shift and days off, the Captain decides on their schedule. as a officer i can pick my days off and what shift i want and stay out the way and work my unit mostly in peace
@@TheGhettoBodybuilder that's what's up I figured the same it would be easier staying a CO we could make more than good enough money from OT and less stressload lieutenants go through same routine everyday
bro I'm done with my orientation on this friday, passed cjbat today, and got non-certified first day on monday. DO i need to buy a watch or they got a clock in most facilities not tryna go crazy from not knowing what time it is I feel most CO's would be counting the clock for when it's time to go home//
Question , I started the hiring process and I did everything that was required now I’m waiting for a start date, how long it take for the to tell you the start date ?
man both times when i got on with the county jail, & then when i got on with the feds it took a few months from the time i applied to my start date. its gone take a few months for them to get everything lined up & you in the door, even a facility that needs officers bad. just stay patient & stay busy living your best life, they gone call you back when you least expect it homie 🫵🏼🫡
I interviewed at FCC VICTORVILLE in March 2024, got my job offer through email May 2024, starting date is July 15th. Depends on the background investigation. I had prior clearance, but still had to go through it again for BOP. And plus I'm 38 I also got in because of the new age increase. Which meant I had to get my age waiver approval on top of that.
they’re like the supervisor over the shift, & make alot of calls when things happen on the shift like whether to put a team together & remove a hostile inmate out of his lockdown cell, or when they have to decide who has to get mandated for OT
Boop Boop Boop! I start the Academy the 24th. I need these videos daily! Thank you boss man keep up the good work!
Congratulations, I start next Tuesday (June 12th) for Maryland

What is the sergeants responsibilities? they support you at work?
