wow!! im blown away by your video! I'm very much a beginner and it was so helpful to hear you "think" your way through the process. I feel like I learned so much just getting to be a fly on the wall of how you figured out how to get the look you wanted. It's one thing to have a tutorial with a bunch of theory - but this was like getting to have a hands-on learning experience. You explain everyting so clearly - even the math/ratio stuff that went over my beginner head - I still understood essentially what you were doing and why by the way you explained it. The fact that you used lighting ratios is impressive.
One thing I always am wary about is colour grading changing the actual ratios.

@Alex Cheung it's not easy, been practicing more lately and it's a fine balance.
Can be frustrating when you get to the grade and something is just off, can be the smallest thing in the shoot that plays a big part in the edit.

@@adrianwongmedia And not to say their methods are "wrong", but for me, false colors really helps me understand exactly how much light is lighting up shot and whether or not those levels match the contrast ratios that I'm going for

I set my WB to 4600K as a starting point whenever I have mixed lighting involved. Hope that helps!

Very nice result! I think the only thing that is missing is that it looks like they they used some haze in the commercial which lifts the shadows a bit. Can you like me the commercial?
True! I think haze would have definitely helped with the shadows a bit more too

I set my WB to 4600K to start with and adjust according to taste. But I usually don't change it from 4600K too often after I set up the lights

Can i ask what colour tempreture you set your camera at in order to maximise the cold and warm ambiance of the lights?
I'm shooting anywhere between 4300-4600K so it's even for both the warmer and cooler temps 😁
Isn't better to white balance to the face or warm light in order to make skin more natural? It will make background more blue aswell.

This is such a nice video, but I dont really know the basics of lighting, so it's kinda diificult for me to understand the video.
I started photography about 2 and a half months ago, and have only did a little bit of color grading by lightroom.
I really want to learn the basics of lighting and color grading. In the future I want it to be my forte.

Honestly, I studied by watching a lot of videos and tutorials about lighting and color grading. Start with basic lighting videos and once you have a basic understanding of it, watch WanderingDP on TH-cam for high-end lighting videos. For color grading for filmmaking, start with Cullen Kelley or Daryn Mostyn on TH-cam. I only do video so I'm not sure about photography tutorials or guides

what were the white balance settings in camera?
4600K to make it a "middle ground" of not too warm, and not too cool
…🤔 so, Using false colors takes the guessing out of the equation. That’s awesome 👏🏾
False colors are great for things like figuring out what contrast ratios from the film/video you're trying to recreate are. But when you're actually on set, using a light meter will also be an incredible tool to accurately measure the amount of light in your scene

Your video is confusing, because it's hard to tell if you are showing how you did the lighting for this video in and of itself.
