Really helpful video thanks. Just to mention that you are using a very old fashioned way of converting log footage to Rec 709. You should be using DaVinci Resolve Colour Management with a DaVinci Wide Gamut or ACES timeline. It does all the log conversion for you, a bigger colour space for your editing and automatic conversion to Rec 709 at the end. Darren Misty and Cullen Kelly have great videos on this.
Thanks mate. Yes this video is pretty old in my newer videos I mainly use a CST to do so. My main purpose on this particular video was to show how to do it on every NLE so using basic tools like curves where everybody has access to was the right decision :)
I am new to resolve and never used the editable splines before and didn't see that used in any of the videos yet, that is useful ! Thanks for the tips !
bro amnazing straigth forward clear precise amazing!! also have a question maybe you could help i started filmaking like 5 months ago and i am going deep into color grading but i think i have to change camera i have a sony alpha 6100 great camera tho for starting but not ideal for coloring could recomend any lets say budget friendly camera to upgrade not like a super expensive cinema camera but lets say between 1000 euro to 2000 max???
Thanks, but I can't get it to work properly. When I adjust the curves separately, the colors get exaggerated, even on the smallest adjustment. Blue instantly becomes magenta ish. Does it have to do with color management? Im currently working in the Wide Gamut space. thanks in advance.
Thanks for the great tutorial. One part I am nervous about is the qualifiers. I use 8-bit footage from the A7c and would like to avoid that. What would be the best alternative to qualifying? I really miss my 10-bit 4k from the Lumix G9...
Thanks man. The best option is still qualifying but you can use a tracking mask. Personally I think 8 Bit will still work if you have good lighting and a background which isn’t close to the human skin (colorwise). Just give it a try and see if it works otherwise use the mask
Hi Paule, richtig klasse Tutorial. Ich bin ziemlich neu zu sogenannte Color-Grading und find es immer schwer, genau solche Orange/Teal Look zu schaffen bei meinen Footages. freundliche Grüße aus Braunschweig!
Great Tutorial... i'm very keen to learn coloring in davinci. However, it is confusing to grasp at the moment seeing so many methods to approach color grade.
Can't draw any mask the way you do on 1:24. Did exactly what is shown on your video but my mouse keeps the arrow symbol instead of the pen with the plus sign. Did you additionally hit any key we don't see in the video? Or maybe it is a bug ..
Man i've been using Premier pro to edit, And a client sent me a .braw format video.. It is a format that can only work in Davinci so I was forced to learn it. Little did I know Davinci would make me realize how good it is compared to premier pro. It saves fast. render fast and do good color grading
It doesn't work, I add the mask but it doesn't show me just that bit in the vector scope. ye I agree your tutorial is quick but by making it quick you sacrifice key info, like set up.
Was Blown away with how the skin tone was selected most times i use qualifier... that’s really smart and efficient
Yes it’s a great tool
Just found your channel and now following. Learning DR and just bought a Zcam F6. Loving your vids.

Thanks for your feedback 🙂
Hey Paule, can i do the prsets and save them by creating a profile so i don't have to go through the whole process all the time?
Yes you can Save a powergrade which basically saves all the nodes and you can apply this in other projects as well
Great video, thanks for the info!!

Danke dir :))
Do you typically use curves instead of a color space transform on log footage? If so, what is the reasoning?
No nowadays I use a CST.
My intention in this videos was to make it s as easy as possible so that everybody could follow along

Leider kenne ich keine. Ich würde dir einen Online Kurs dazu empfehlen. Zb Denver riddle

All right, but what if character move? Light and shadow changes
use tracking in resolve ;)
How did you create the mask?
You can create it by using a power window
Thanks for this Tutorial :)
