Awesome video Bruce!! I’ve been extremely busy for the past month, but any time you try to tackle a job that big, give me a holler. I’ll make time to come give you a hand.
SDR 35 pipe and fittings with HVAC foil tape... your shop looks like mine! I have a Grizzly G0944 & Oneida Super DD XL, 6" main to the center of the shop, then y-split to two 4" sub-runs to each main tool location (some 4" and some further y-split to 2.5"). Finals are blast gates and short runs of flex hose. SDR 35 is so much cheaper than schedule 40 that many seem use... and much, much lighter. I also used some 5/16" sheet metal screws to lock each section before taping. Tape seems to work just fine as long as you take the time to make sure it is pressed down properly. I found no need to use caulking. I went with Woodpeckers butterfly blast gates... giving them a try to see how well they work and hopefully don't clog.
Very nice that the pipe color was the same as your logo color, you just need to paint all the connectors now. Still looks like a character from Spiderman. Your videos keep improving. Keep doin what your doing.
Awesome setup! A suggestion for sealing the tubes instead of the tape. Drill 2-3 holes for a small set screws then run a small bead of silicone around the edge. When you need to move or replace a section all you have to do is remove the screws and cut the silicone.
Just thought I’d let you know that SDR 35 doesn’t mean sewer and drain. It stands for Standard Dimension Ratio which tells you how thick the wall of the pipe is compared to the diameter.
Thank you very much! This has been very incremental for me. You do what you can with what you've got. I have finally worked up to this point and I'm liking it so far!
I sure hope so! I don't want to do this again soon. ha ha. Thanks, Jeremy! I really do like the layout, and it's going to help me be even more efficient out there!
Hi Bruce, thanks for the video!I I bought 100' of 6" SDR 32.5 and it's wider than the SDR 35. Where can I get fittings for the SDR 32.5? Is there a way to used the SDR 35 fittings with the SDR 32.5 pipe? I bought a lot of thew SDR 35 fittings and I can't seem to find any reasonably priced SDR 32.5 fittings...
Oh man...I am definitely not the authority on pipes and fittings. I really don't know anything about SDR 32.5. I don't believe I've ever come across them. You might consider finding a cheaper alternative and heating up something and kind of forming the fittings if need be.
@@BruceAUlrich miss typed - a 4" (id) green PVC drain pipe will accept a 4" ('ish OD) ABS pipe hammered in...not a 6" pvc...then the 4" flex will clamp over the 4" ABS.
Did you have to pay extra for them to paint all those pipes your color?? Looks awesome Bruce! It's fun seeing you transform that garage into an awesome shop!
Great video! Looking at purchasing a Laguna unit soon. Where and the heck do you get the 6" sewer and drain pipe? I leave in Northern California and google search it and could locate any suppliers.
Hi, first let me say that I really liked your video. It gave me a lot to think about, it was pretty instructive. But I have a couple of questions. One is ask about the piping! PVC vs the flexible hoses. Now I know that the ridges of the flexhose affect the pressurized suction. But let's just say, I have a very small shop "a bedroom turned into a shop, small shop to be exact", and I have a fair amount of flexible hose, and I want to build my dust collection system. It Would be for about 6 tools, or 6 hoses, 4 tools, and 2 loose hoses for hand tools and clean up. So meaning 6 Blast-Gates. Now here's the first question. If I would cut the flexible hoses, so they would reach each separate connector, to each Y connector "precisely" fairly tight, no bending of the hoses. They would fit pretty much to the exact length. Could it do as good OR close to as good as the PVC "as a some-what substitute" OR even as tight as possible the ridges would still cause a certain amount of loss of suction? And 2nd. My Shop-Vac is a 2 1/2" hose 6.5HP. Now, Should I use 2 1/2" PVC piping all around? Or should I use a widener and use 4" pipping? Should I get better suction with the 4" or it would be the exact same with the 2 1/2"? Please give me your professional opinion! I have 1 shot, so I need to do this right. Thanks for your time and great video. Thumbs Up!
Looks good! Man I need dust collection so bad. I'm trying my hardest to move into a different shop within a year or so and then dust collection will be somewhere near the top of the list. To run it now I will have to upgrade power in the shop first and I don't want to put any more money into permanent things where I'm at now.
Thank you! I totally get that. I had 220 run on multiple circuits about 3 years ago and I’m just now using it with this tool. Ha! I guess I future proofed it pretty well.
Would it have been easier to roll the tubes into the bandsaw blade instead of doing multiple interrupted cuts on the chop saw? Something to consider for the next air line upgrade?
Yeah, maybe so. I thought about that, but I didn’t have a good way to hold the work piece and with my miter saw stand, I didn’t have to hold the 10’ pipe while I made the cut.
I have the same dust collector and have been looking at hard piping it, but the logical place for me is against the wall like you have it. How are you dealing with cleaning the filter canister? Looks like you can only get to it from one side?
I have the clean out pipe for the filter canister facing away from the wall so I can easily get to it. And that side of the housing swings open fully so I can unbuckle the whole filter assembly if need be.
@@BruceAUlrich thanks for the video….can you give me a simple response “yes, would buy the P Flux3 again”, or “no, I would not recommend this dust collector”. Thanks,
@@BruceAUlrich does yours separate good even with the 45 and run up to the ceiling? Most others recommend having at least 5’ of straight pipe before any fittings, just curious on your input. I have the same unit but currently using the 4” (3 ports) on the unit and my separation isn’t that great, I’ve been told the flex pipe is causing too much turbulence which is reducing the units ability to separate properly.
Appreciat it! Yes, PVC like I used is considerably cheaper than the Norfab stuff that I've seen. The 8" PVC jumped up a pretty good bit, which is why I had to reduce it to 6" right out of the machine. I'm hoping this will serve me for a long time to come!
I had to put screws in all of my vertical connections. I tried just taping them and it will work for some time. It eventually failed. Not sure if you are just using tape, but it looks that way from the video.
Isn't that blue part just s sticker that comes right off? I seem to recall peeling that off a piece of PVC, though I haven't worked with PVC in a while.
Why didn’t you use some short screws to hold everything together and then tape over that? Great job. It’s easier with a helper than by yourself. Oh btw it’s much easier to take it apart then to put it up. Haha
Awesome setup, Bruce! I desperately need dust collection in the shop. My single shop-vac isn't cutting it anymore! Space is already pretty tight, so I'm considering a mobile 2-stage. Something like the Grizzly G0860. -Joe
