- Water towers in the café. A fire hydrant in the hallway. Google's New York City office has gone on a hiring binge, and has tricked out its offices so that new employees know they're working in New York. WSJ's Andy Jordan takes an exclusive look inside Google's Chelsea office in Manhattan.

Why do tech company offices look like day cares?
their google they know adults are worse than kids.
Europa X everyone is a child. if you wouldn't want your office to be that cool, i have concerns
well, would you rather sit in an office all day, or go down a slide?
Because they don't want workers to think for themselves.
It's the new generation billion dollar businesses, new money, young and refreshing ideas unlike the old and dilapidated corporate America you're used to seeing.
I just visited the office yesterday, and the place is awesome! By the way, you forgot to mention the game room with every single game known to mankind.

@@hciuahwuiwa I'd say Facebook usually pays a little more than Google. Also, many engineers end up leaving FANG companies to work for startups.
This is like college extended. It's like losing your 20s and 30s in this kind of environment, and before you know it you're 40 and "What the hell just happened?"

Absolutely abysmal ergonomics. Everyone hunched over. No amount of "casual collision" and other open space concepts negates the need for a healthy personal computer work station, especially for a company whose employees, let's face it, work on a computer most of the day. No wonder they have a paid doctor on staff. Those poor employees are going to need it.
Thanks for this. Seems you are the only one who cares about work conditions, while everybody debate about decoration aspects...

Nothing wrong with that. Apple does incorporate Google's search engine in their devices as well.
Well, sure. There is indeed a lot of fancy stuff (which you do not have time for, if you're working there), but in the principle it is just a fancy open space office.
Did you also notice that there is nobody in the small fancy rooms (I also cannot imagine working there on a sofa without a proper table), and everybody sitting there in the big crowded open space area? ;)

The news crew was filming at the fair once when I was 15 and I said. Hi Mom to the camera. Even though she was standing right next to me.

billnmish Actually, Google encourages their employees to use MacBooks. They recently bought thousands of MacBooks to give their employees.
***** A Chromebook can only access a browser. They need a computer that has a lot more functionality.
What a big distracting mess!
I think all the New York stuff is tacky. Many employees will be from New York so it just feels like someone is putting a bib on you and making you go on a field trip to your own house.
LOVE THIS WORKPLACE but I don't want to be a software engineer AT ALL. Even Google can't bribe me haha ;)

That guy says "Right" all the time after everything. I hate him. But that woman talking after him said right at the end of her thing too! Shes in love with him or maybe they all say "right" now because of him and hate him and themselves because of it
Looks horrible. No privacy, too noisy, infantilized like a children's playground. I'd rather leap off a bridge than work there. Studies have shown that open office plans are a productivity killer and a terrible idea.

Honestly, the Google space is about as cheesy and un-cool as can be. Those staff on scooters? Wow, that's so yesterday. They look like silly little brats that need to grow up. In time (if not already), most will look back at this and laugh at all of it, and for all the wrong reasons. Google is doomed.

Saw this video for the first time in March of 2012! Awesome video! Google is an awesome company! All of there offices are really cool! The Mountain View office is obviously the coolest, being that it's the biggest!

I think that if Google adds these things it will make workers happier and therefore their minds will be more open to doing good work. When you are cramped up you are just not inspired. However I think that they should also make it so that there are not a million computers as if its basically an office. I think that there should also be other things so that people feel more free. (FOR INSTANCE) mini refridgerators with food, so that the workers feel trusted and like there are other things to do therefore more free. AS an example.
