I really appreciated you stripping the knife! I'd never done that and it was interesting to see the inside mechanism and construction. Not seen any other reviews that took a knife apart. ❤
@@embeaston it’s been 2 years but if you still wondering, I just bought today with low profile slip pocket clip. Maybe they don’t use these in new batch
At first I was not too impressed when I got my D2 model. Not very sharp except for the G10 edges. The clip needed tweeting in order to get a semi smooth pull out of my pocket. But....after a quick blade tune up, some handle sanding and some fidget time over a couple days, now I get it! Now I’m quite impressed, this is a sturdy small 3” EDC with a solid lock up.
I've bought the red crimson D2 and bought 5 more for my family about a year ago. I love the knife. And ended up getting the carbon fiber S35VN when it came out. S.O.G need to make it exactly the same just a bit bigger like 3.4 inches I'd be in heaven. They need to make it 💭💭
I interesting. Picked up th d2 version in store...that red, oddly, stood out to me. Then found out a s35 version for like 20 bucks more so just ordered it. I'm just learning about knive slash steals. S35 supposed to be stronger/sharper? Super steel whenever that means. Again, kind of like in the red handle. never thought i'd go for any colors.
This knife with the D2 blade and some of my ergo modifications has become my "Go-To" EDC. The action is great, the steel is great with D2 and good heat treat, the ergo is great after my modifications, and it is cheap enough that if I break it, I am not worried at all. Great knife.
@@thejapino Funny, as I did the opposite. This knife has great action but had both the thumb stud and flipper. I chose to remove the thumb-stud and filed down the flipper so that it was able to be a forward finger choil. Filed down the jimping so that it was less aggressive and sharp on the flipper and the blade. Filed down the blade along the spine just above the jimping so that it was more of a 90 degree edge for scraping and striking a fire steel as opposed to the swedge (swedge is still there, but there is a slight portion of 90 degree edge for ferro-rod). Filed the scales and liner along the spine of the knife so that there is a smooth transition from handle to blade along the knife (my preference for control with camping and bushcraft-type knives) and scalloped the scales next to the blade for better pinch grip ability and rounded the scales elsewhere for better ergonomics and more smoothness overall to avoid hot-spots or pocket pokers. I also took it apart and polished the curves of the blade detent where it contacts the axis bar and put a bunch of good knife oil on the washers and contact points and it is buttery smooth, now, but still has a lock detent.
Oh, and I bent the pocket clip tip down with my channel-locks. Was trying to see if there was a replacement wire-style pocket clip, but I haven't seen one. May take a dremel wheel to the clip and cut out the "SOG" branded portion and see how that works.
@@HustleHabit I have not found a better pocket clip for this yet. I was actually thinking of taking the original pocket clip off and "dremelling" out the SOG logo portion of it to make it almost a minimal wire-style looking pocket clip, but don't know if I want to mess with an "Okay" thing. The rest of the mods I did are great. There is still a bit of a hitch in the detent upon closure, but it usually falls right in place when I time the lock-bar flick right. This is a great modder-knife that can be made excellent if you want to try and doesn't matter if you eff it up!
I bought the Terminus XR and really like it. I like their changes to the axis style lock, it really sucks the blade in when closing. Other brands I have seen that copied Benchmade axis locks tend to hit and bounce back, but this one doesn't. It was a bit weird at first with a flipper that was too hard to flip but with practice it is pretty dependable.
LTK just wanted to thank you for continually posting videos everyday it’s awesome to see a new video from our favorite knife channel EVERYDAY especially during these times....STAY SAFE STAY SHARP AND LUV THEM KNIVES!!!!! Aloha and blessings from Hawaii 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Let up about a tenth of a turn on the pivot screw, and the grey one will flip just as smooth as the red one. They're assembling these things a mile a minute at the factory. It amazes me they do as well as they do considering the rate of production.
Good Video~Thanks! I had put this one one on, (company I usually shop withs), "Wishlist" for myself, but now that it's Xmas time again here, prices have come down and picking this one up for my son alittle over$40! Good Review-will check back to your channel!
I would like to se more of the SOG (and other) lines produced in USA, or at least in countries that are not aggressively undermining the US and other nations. Also, too short of a blade for my taste. I hear they make a good purse knife... ;) I love the lock/flipper combo. Got a USA made, S35VN, Seal XR flipper inbound, but already know I'd prefer a lighter, slimmed down version of that 8.2 oz. beast, but, I've carried heavier. It has a clip that doesn't interfere gripping to draw the knife (which is why "deep carry" sucks), Karen be damned. I've owned cross pin lock knives for decades, and never had a spring break.
The action looks a lot better than benchmades axis flipper. The only thing I don't like is the clip, sometimes softer pant material gets bunched up in there. Great vid as always! I had to add I'm impressed by this knife. Sogs build quality is looking up
I had the same issue with the clip. Comments in another video noted the clip goes in the near side, not the far side of the knife. I tried it, and with a little tightening of the bend, the problem was fixed. This video shows the clip in the wrong spot on both knives. Like mine, came from the factory incorrectly in the far side
I have the D2 cryo with G-10. The flipper tab is sharp as HELL. I tried to file the flipper tab but the file just kept skating off and wouldn't bite. How friggin' hard is this metal? I finally attacked the flipper with a diamond stone. It is now my second favorite knife after my Benchmade Osborne 940-1.
Some reports that followed Shot Show indicated that an updated version of the Terminus -- with a far less billboarded clip -- was coming out this year. Any idea when/if that's going to happen? Thanks!
Are the black covers that go over the axis lock pin made of plastic? If they are, I can see them wearing out and getting lost as a result of heavy/long-term use.
The UK version, as well as being a Slipjoint, had no weight relief, no S30v, no D2, no ‘axis lock’, just BD1N 😞 I gave mine to Paddy! Oh and rubbish, soft screws!
Bought a Terminus XR with S35VN. Right out of the box it has been disappointing. The action is incredibly stiff. I cannot open the knife completely with the flipper and I cannot move the blade with the thumb studs. Yours is clearly working much better than mine. The blade on my knife does not seem to be very sharp either. Did I get a lemon? Have you done any work on your knife? Thanks for a good video.
I can’t believe you took it apart without adding oil. lol I’m so ocd I always oil my knives up as soon as I get them. For some reason they are never smooth out the box.
Is that where you got yours? WMK, I have 2 here s35 ones and mine are from Amazon the blades are vastly different. The shape is different and one is odd on the blade width, I checked with a micrometer. The one has that S mark by the pivot hole there the one doesn’t. But I’ve checked other videos and they don’t have it either. So idk they both are same on the inside really
I own two of these knives as well, both purchased directly from SOG. I couldn't help but notice that the back side of my blades both specify they were made in China....which I'm fine with. I'm just a bit confused why your knives DON'T have the same marking. Did SOG do a USA made sprint run of these?
What’s with the thumb bandage. Always seems to have one. I’ll admit I haven’t seen too many of your videos. Lol. But I have a Crimson version on order. The red just looks handsome as hell to me. 👍🏻🔪🩸
I barely started using my terminus xr in D2 and was wondering if you tested yours because I can’t remember and I was cutting up plastic lining and it went from hair shaving/paper slicing to not even grabbing onto paper or cutting it without tearing it. I put a 34 degree inclusive edge with both a toothy edge and then a mirror polished edge and every time it dulled the same. I used my civivi mckenna and it was still razor sharp after cutting more of the plastic lining than I did with my terminus xr.
Bonjour de France 🇫🇷 tes vidéos sont super cool pour moi j’arrive à comprendre ton accent 🇺🇸 merci et ton idée de démonter les couteaux est super 👍 A salute (ps de quelle état des US ?)
I feel similarly. Is it because they generally always seem to make it look like a bright clown red? That's my issue with it usually.. I do like a more blood red color on some..
Hey LTK does it hurt your fingertip when you open the knife? I’ve loosened the pivot so it wouldn’t hurt, but then the blade is all wobbly. Even the arc lock is hard to pull down. I thought sog was getting better
Looks like a nice knife but my s35vn CF version was problematic and unflippable. Sent back to SOG. Poor quality control apparently. Seems they don't have a human flip it open before selling. I expect better
Yeah i bet the D2 at 61hrc would outcut the S35VN at 58 all day long, far as ergonomics goes give it a hard squeeze in your hand and you will find thee entire handle is a giant hotspot because it is too squared off and has sharp edges in my exqmple...
