I have this knife and I think SOG done this one right I like everything about it one sweet knife and is in my rotation and find I carry this one mostly
I will say that I think it’s a bit overpriced, though. At around $50, it could be a huge contender that would compete with anything else coming out of China (CIVIVI, Kizer Vanguard, Bestech, etc...). At $70, it has a bit stiffer competition. Still looks like a great knife, but the price is approaching a highly competitive territory.
gideonstactical Fair points. The XR lock with ball bearings looks awesome. BDZ1, however, is something I’m not familiar with. Honestly, I was excited when I heard they were using something other than AUS-8. However, all the hard data (chemical composition, etc...) I can find makes it appear that BDZ1 (which is not the same as BD1 or BD1N) is very similar to 8Cr13MoV. SOG seems to do a good job heat treating budget steels, though. I’m fine with the steel, just not sure it is worth any more money than AUS-8. Still planning to get one in hand to test it. Thanks for your review on this! I really appreciated it.
I just picked one of these up in the D2 version with G-10 scales and can confirm that they have updated the design to tone down the jimping on the flipper as well as changing out the pocket clip for one that is much slimmer and does not have the letter cut-outs. Thanks for the great review!
Hey GT, just thought it was worth bringing this blade to light again. They have remade the terminus xr and it’s so good. I picked one up at a bass pro and it’s got an updated low profile pocket clip, cryo d2, and that great xr action for only 50 bucks. The review above pretty much covers it but I was blown away at how fidget friendly the bar-style lock combined with a flipper would be. It’s basically got all the great stuff about a hi-end knife but for 54 bucks. Thinking about checking out their all carbon fiber s35vn version. Hope your travels are still going great!
Thanks for all your reviews sir, anytime im looking at a knife or order one i always get the best info from your channel. Been watching for several years.
just so that you are aware the amazon link takes you to a different SOG knife, not a flipper, no thumb stud. not the same knife. I just bought my SOG Terminus on the blade HQ link where the have a listed sale price of $69.95
Just got mine - in S35Vn, for an amazing deal at the SOG HQ in Lynnwood WA. Came VERY sharp, and EVERY knife I touched there and bought there (incredible holiday sales) were hair popping. I actually cut myself! I adjusted the pivot just a TINY BIT and got just the smooth I wanted, no play. I liked the stone wash on the crimson D2, but the scales were too meh and I really wanted that carbon fiber. I have NO use for the thumb studs, and they DO NOT work well with the new xr lock. They HAVE fixed the jimping a bit. I find myself just excited to have it. Feels rugged, looks sharp deploys sweetly. I got a Benchmade 940 from my bride - God bless her - but I LOVE FLIPPERS! so, this goes in my work outside pants and is a worker. Love it.
I had to add a current comment in case anyone is currently looking at this knife. Everything is perfect about this knife except the XR lock. The springs broke in 3 different knives! Two were carbon fiber and came through amazon. One was G10 and came from knife center. I gave up after the third knife and went with a Skyline. I had to change the clip to deep carry, but it's totally worth it! Great knife. This knife has potiential, they just need to get the spring right!
I picked one up yesterday in D2, figured it'd be a good backpacking knife. Durable mechanism, good blade design, easy deployment even with gloves on, and high quality materials for about $50 with my employee discount at BPS/Cabela's. For EDC, I prefer liner locks, just because that's what I'm used to, but if I want something for whittling at the foot of a mountain, or digging into a sealed bag, this'll do just fine, and I expect it'll be durable enough to stand in for my fixed blade if I lose it on the hike, as long as I use it a bit more cautiously.
That super smooth and easy blade dropping when you unlock the XR is why there exists a little side to side play when locked. And that’s why the Benchmades don’t have that play. Not a terrible thing at all. Overall great knife and I plan on purchasing one even though I already have a Benchmade 940-1. The XR is an outstanding value.
I don't normally post- this is a first for a knife. I really like my SOG XR LTE in S35VN. I've used and abused other SOG XRs in D2 for work, enjoy the way my Benchmade 940-1 feels and cuts, and the XLT has a great feel as well. The price is a good value (great compared to the butterfly tax) for the materials used and, unlike Benchmade, it's a well executed design. As far as the jimping, suck it up Butter cup. Seriously guys, if you actually work with your hands for a living you won't notice it. TH-cam heros be damned.
I just got the S35VN version. The flipper is less than great, the cuts are way too sharp. Unlike the blade. (It wouldn’t even cut paper.)I had to adjust the pivot because it was so tight it barely flipped. It still doesn’t want to go sometimes and the “jimping” digs into my finger. Lastly, the clip sucks. It’s big, obtrusive and the letters catch when you try to remove it from your pocket. I’m still undecided as to wether or not I’m going to return it.
Like the knife. Like the coat. Glad you mentioned the brand name and a link. If someone was a OCD minimalist. The SOG XR and iPhone XR would make a great pair. Both destined in the US. Both manufactured and assembled in China. Nevertheless. Looks like I’ll be adding another knife and now a coat to my Christmas list. Thanks for sharing. Great channel. I’ve been looking forward to finding more info on the terminus XR. And you delivered.
Wow, I watch 2-3 knife channels & yours first one,(I've seen), where your actually demoing what knife can do! I just ordered this one in red for my son & although I've seen several vids showing the faults, I've seen enough good on reviews to take chance on it & now that some time has gone by since this review, I got the knife for just under $40 so less risk. Thanks for good vid & I'll be back to check more out!...
Looking at the steel composite there similar but his test was a little more impressive then 8cr13 like 25 cuts more but when sharpened right it was 4 times better. The Z is where they get you BD1 is like 14c28 Bdz1 is closer to 8cr and AUS8 like most Sogs it's a little over priced but not to much and it's the nicest knife they've come out with in a long time .
Wow props to Ferret Face (Chris at SOG) this one might be a winner. I have hated on SOG fairly hard the last couple of years but might need to pick this one up and give them another chance. Price, design and execution look okay on this one.
I EDC a SOG flash II it's even got a glassbreaker....SOG is underrated imo and the fact they cryogenically treat their blades and hold a contract with the USA Navy Seals plus made right here in the USA says alot to me, I own several of their knives and am seldomly dissatisfied. Great customer service too they really try to go above and beyond.
Just picked up the Green G10 version with the D2 blade. Might take a look at this one. Flipper jimping looks to be addressed and can be found for under $50.
Thank you for this video, my Son gifted me one last Christmas, and I absolutely love it. Unlike the one in the video, my blade does not swing freely, and has no play back & forth, or up & down when deployed. My blade did not come dull, but I would not consider it sharp either, and will address that when I can afford a proper sharpening apparatus.
I would say pay $20 more and get the griptilian the axis lock is fantastic great blade style tons of options depending on what steel or handle your looking for and American made before I carried the Spyderco Para 3 in cru wear I carried a full size Benchmade griptilian for 2 yrs never had a problem and after 2 yrs of hard use it still works like new the only difference is it’s sharper than it came cause I like to carry a razor sharp knife for edc or just any knife I own

Love the look of the knife actually would want one. However the top of the blade where the Jinping is. I think perhaps it does not set far enough back in the handle thats why part of those wiggle not stable enough. Maybe
When did blade play, however slight, and the wildly uneven grind (see 6:24 for reference) become acceptable on a knife this expensive? The lock is cool and the blade looks nice, but those are some serious issues at this price point.
I wish more knife brands would adopt Spyderco's ball bearing lock like the Manix 2 has. When those bad boys lock up, there's a satisfying "snap".........with a Benchmade Axis, you get that annoying "clackity clack, clackity clack", a cheap hollow sound, and the blade will rebound right back out of the handle when you're trying to close it if you swing it too hard. All just so Benchmade snobs can boast their blade swings so smooth.
I've bought 3 SOG's but not since the early-mid 2000s because of the same reasons as most other ppl, value for money being the main. This changed with the non locking version of this that came out around 1-2yr ago, great knife and superb quality for the price. It looks like SOG are still listening to the potential customers and have made another vfm knife, i hope it continues with more models and some colab work with good designers.
Excellent review as always Aaron. With the Axis Lock patent expiring this year, I think we'll see more knives like this offering with similar design elements. Good on SOG! I still love their products. Been rockin' the new PowerPint mt recently if you are so inclined to check it out. It has replaced my S2 Juice. Keep it up & God bless!
Yea the blade steel for me would be the deal breaker. Wish they would have done one of there San mai blades on the one. Would have been special. I still think the Sog facet ct01 is my favorite Sog knife still to this day.
Hi, nice video! I have a SOG flk and then I just bought a 940 from Benchmade. I will say that I love the kick opening of SOG so much and it's so satisfying to use even compare to 940. ( My 940 is not very smooth idk why). Is there any other company that use kick start opening? If not I will just purchase another SOG then. Thanks for your video.
Just an opinion but for me it's hard to beat a seki sog with the arc lock. The spec elite is fantastic. I have plenty of benchmades that stay at home. I just feel like the seki sogs are just as good for less money. Again, just my opinion . The terminus looks good I don't understand how it's different than the arc lock other than the button is bigger . I am interested to know what some of you prefer about the benchmades over the sog. Thanks Aaron , great review as usual
@@mattarendale7505 I would be scared too cause of all the benchmade fans out there but I think it's just because it's USA made and i understand Benchmade had their patent on the design so sog and others found ways around it. I personally think the Japanese improved the lock. People complain about the smoothness but as you saw in the vid the benchmade he had was just the same deployment as the sogs maybe my visionary 1 is smoother. I think USA made make the price jump and then people like the originator of a certain design most of times and die hard to that company but of it saves me $$ I'll take it. 😂
Can you do a review on the Rircen Knives Warpath? It's on BladeHQ. I saw it the other day and I've never heard of that company and I didn't see any reviews. I'd absolutely love to see a review of it from you.
Serious question I am a knife fan from the UK. I really like these kinds of nice but I worry that they would open too easily in the pocket and then there is risk of serious injury , couldn't something nudge against that flipper in your pocket? they seem dangerous , I don't mind danger but I would be embarrassed to injure myself that way .
Not a big SOG user although I have a few, this seems to be a good new direction for SOG. However it seems SOG and Benchmade both have taken the lead in the Gerber way of doing things, all downhill in craftsmanship, quality and customer service.
Dear SOG: Bring back the AEGIS, but the 2.0 version having the following: 1) Fix the wonky blade play issue. Adding liners or beefing up the handle's rigidity would help a lot. 2) More robust tip. This AEGIS 2.0 would be a legendary EDC!
They recently released the Aegis FL, which is a stainless steel framelock. It's made with 8cr and it's a little heavy but it sells for $20, it cuts like a beast and the action is actually shockingly good. I picked one up at Walmart and I'm quite pleased with it. It does have a very fine point but the lockup is solid.
Bdz1 got 65 cuts on factory which is comparable to 67 cuts from Bos 420hc. 8cr in his videos seem to be hitting no higher then 40. So clearly, there is a pretty big difference between 8cr and bdz1.
I went to pick it up on your Amazon link but it's not there only the slip joint version is . Shame cause I have a credit from Amazon really want to check it out.
Tbh i just got the SOG survival pick axe spent way to much on it a was not impressed. I do have afew others from SOG that i do like. As always thanks for the videos be safe have a blessed day
Less wobble side to side then other SOGs. Sad that SOGs standard has been set low enough to where we are happy if the lateral blade play isn't TOO bad, rather then expecting no blade play whatsoever.
ye need some hand lotion... so is it true that the xr lock doesn't last past 500 flicks? springs break? I'm reading a lot of reviews before buying anything that wont last years..
The pocket clip makes this knife a stay at- home knife. It is horrible, catches on the lip of my bdu pocket. I also had to knock off all the sharp edges on this knife. I took the thumb studs off, just my personal preference here. This knife is one deep carry clip away from being a great edc. The s35vn option is a great value even if the knife sadly never leaves the house.
Great review! I was wondering about this pocket knife. I thought, before I put this on my wish list I'll wait for a review on gideonstactical. Then boom! here it is!
I do not have this.....yet. My Manic 2 has S90V. I don't have to have this in my hands to declare the Spyderco a clear winner. I suspect that I am going to look this quite well.
Just picked up my 3rd spyderco paramilitary what a great blade one para 2 in s110v and 2 para 3’s didn’t think I’d prefer the para 3 over the 2 but i do I have the para 3 in s35vn and my carry knife the para 3 in cru wear steel awesome steel easy fast deployment one hand open and closing and a tuff blade altogether and at $136 for a para 3 in Cruwear is a good price and you won’t regret it and American made which is always a plus
Barry Bueler Love my spyderco knives esp the leaf shaped blades.... But did you ever notice the spyderco symbol has the same geometry as a star of david/seal of soloman /hexagram occult symbol of saturn? ..... the top of the star even peaks out cheekily at the spider pincers/legs...
Check out the domino a flipper cts cup steel leaf shaped blade one of my favorite I also wanna get the Yojimbo 2 but in a sprint run just bored of s30v it’s good but I have like 10 knives in it missed out on the 20 cv version sure I could get it for $200 but I’ll just wait I definitely wanna get all spyderco’s American made blades the Yojimbo 2 is the last one I can think of I believe it’s American made
I carried a twitch xl for years. When my boy became teenagers for Christmas we purchased the smaller twitch for them. I was Made to look like a fool. They barely opened. I felt horrible and promptly apologized to my kids and returned the p.o.s product. I still use my old xl but can’t any longer promote anyone buying a newer one.they are past their best work.I have 3old xl’s and two mini’s all old, when they were awesome.sry can’t trust them .they made me look stupid to my kids for propping up a bad Christmas present.😢
I feel more confident EDCing this exact knife instead of EDCing that over priced piece of thin flimsy trash (commonly known as the Benchmade Bugout). This exact knife is in my EDC rotation 😎
gideonstactical I got a Kershaw Dividend in M390 steel for about $60.00. I love the blade shape and the smoothness of the deployment. I think it should be a $30 to $40 knife imo. Anyways, thanks for the good and in depth review.
I don't understand why SOG always gets shit for value for the money. I read that people won't pay $100 for a vg-10 blade made in seki Japan cause they think it's too expensive for that steel.... But I never hear anyone complain about Spyderco vg-10 and they charge for their seki Japan knives so much more money almost $200 for one.... They delica from Spyderco is around $80 or more and the visionary 1 you can find for $60 with vg-10 and tini coating with an arc lock.... If Spyderco made a vg-10 blade that's 4" like SOG has I promise you it will not be at that price range... I got a SOG vision arc for a deal but the original price is $100. I read people think it's expensive for vg10 lol I don't understand this. Sog really gives you a deal with their products and the seki SOG are top quality. I used to install security cameras for the store that sells military and police their gear and only auto Sogs and seki Sogs where there and most customers carried sogs instead of the other good brands they had including Spyderco.. Be aware of others trying to give their own opinion of what they think is value and just do research on your own cause what's trash for someone else might be perfect for you.
generally I like this knife but I own too many knives not to be picky. 2 things that out of the box I’m not loving. 1- no big deal but it was not to my “sharp standards” but easily tuned up. 2- least favorite pocket clip I own and I don’t see any way for me modify that. Grabs the pocket ok going in, ok while in the hand using, but removing this knife from my pocket is just harder than it needs to be, my biggest ding on this knife. I wont buy another SOG with this style of clip there are just too many other knives to pick from.
Thank god SOG is starting to move away from AUS8. Five years ago it was the go to cheap steel, now I just will not buy a knife in AUS8. I feel over all its an under performer compared to other options, one being D2. Now SOG take this knife and make it in s35vn in desert tan scales, or digital camo.
ChillerHR I think so. The only thing going for the bugout is ultralight and s30v steel but I never liked the bugout to much. It just feels like a $5 knife from a gas station.

gideonstactical maybe it’s just me then, but the blade play tho?
You can easily adjust the Benchmade to work very easy like the SOG!!
Killer review! Love the showing of using it in common edc tasks
Why only a 3 inch blade , it should be a a 3 and a half inch blade imo , it looks fantastic but is a little to small
I am in the fence between this and the elementum ! What you think between both of them?
Just an opinion but for me it's hard to beat a seki sog with the arc lock. The spec elite is fantastic. I have plenty of benchmades that stay at home. I just feel like the seki sogs are just as good for less money. Again, just my opinion . The terminus looks good I don't understand how it's different than the arc lock other than the button is bigger . I am interested to know what some of you prefer about the benchmades over the sog. Thanks Aaron , great review as usual
Agree with you 100% I have 2 seki sogs with arc locks and they are truly amazing knives with strong lock up. 👊
@@lancasteredc7773 thanks Josh I was worried I would start a war nice to know there's like minded sog fans out there 👍
@@mattarendale7505 I would be scared too cause of all the benchmade fans out there but I think it's just because it's USA made and i understand Benchmade had their patent on the design so sog and others found ways around it. 😂
@@lancasteredc7773 exactly , I liked the visionary 1 so much got the 2 in the mail today also a great knife
@@mattarendale7505 such a great edc knife! Hidden gem
I just picked up the s35v version.
Nice!
Can you do a review on the Rircen Knives Warpath? It's on BladeHQ. I saw it the other day and I've never heard of that company and I didn't see any reviews. I'd absolutely love to see a review of it from you.
I said on another channel that I wish the would put this XR lock on the American Lawman. This is right in that area of interest.
Maybe the only one SOG I'd actually buy & carry & trust
Serious question I am a knife fan from the UK. I really like these kinds of nice but I worry that they would open too easily in the pocket and then there is risk of serious injury , couldn't something nudge against that flipper in your pocket? they seem dangerous , I don't mind danger but I would be embarrassed to injure myself that way .
What kind of jacket is that?
I love mine, but wish it were 100% CF scales. It is a laminate.
Aaron, what brand and model jacket are you wearing in this video, and can you please provide me with a link?
Not a big SOG user although I have a few, this seems to be a good new direction for SOG. However it seems SOG and Benchmade both have taken the lead in the Gerber way of doing things, all downhill in craftsmanship, quality and customer service.
Looks similar to my Benchmade mini presidio cf elite, I wonder which has better action
Dear SOG:
Bring back the AEGIS, but the 2.0 version having the following:
1) Fix the wonky blade play issue.

What????
Matt K
SWEET BABY JESSY ON A HELICOPTER!!! Thanks for sharing that man! I'm all the way here in Asia so I didn't know. I NEED one!
That steel is basically the same as 8cr 13mov and AUS 8. Check Pete's test at Cedric and Ada Outdoors.
Bdz1 got 65 cuts on factory which is comparable to 67 cuts from Bos 420hc. 8cr in his videos seem to be hitting no higher then 40. So clearly, there is a pretty big difference between 8cr and bdz1.
Really looks like a fine performer in blade use a good looking blade to.up there game.steal xr.is a winner for sog👍💪
now that it's in s35vn it's an even better deal
I went to pick it up on your Amazon link but it's not there only the slip joint version is . Shame cause I have a credit from Amazon really want to check it out.
Thanks for the review - Question, if the price was the same, would you pick this SOG or the Kershaw Skyline? And why?
Cool video they have a new one blacked out in g10 on there site now good review
Great review man! Just got the D2 steel version.. I’ll be doing a review on it very soon! Thanks 🤙🏻🍻👊🏻
Tbh i just got the SOG survival pick axe spent way to much on it a was not impressed. I do have afew others from SOG that i do like. As always thanks for the videos be safe have a blessed day
How would You get the knife sharpened. If You have never been good a sharpening knives. As I am just not at all good at it at all. Thanks.
S&Tguy get a spyderco sharpmaker! If you can afford it they are super easy to use and get a razor edge!
Less wobble side to side then other SOGs. Sad that SOGs standard has been set low enough to where we are happy if the lateral blade play isn't TOO bad, rather then expecting no blade play whatsoever.
I got one literally all you have to do is tighten it a little and no more blade wobble and is still easy to open.
Great video my guy. I’m grabbing one for me and one for my pops. I know he gonna fucks with it heavy. Great review
ye need some hand lotion... so is it true that the xr lock doesn't last past 500 flicks? springs break? I'm reading a lot of reviews before buying anything that wont last years..
I was deciding between this and the bugout, what should I do
Can a person open this knife just by pulling the luck and flicking the wrist?
The pocket clip makes this knife a stay at- home knife. It is horrible, catches on the lip of my bdu pocket. I also had to knock off all the sharp edges on this knife. I took the thumb studs off, just my personal preference here. This knife is one deep carry clip away from being a great edc. The s35vn option is a great value even if the knife sadly never leaves the house.
This blade is now in S35VN. Hmm 🤔
Great review, thanks mate
Kool blade dude! 🔪 👍💨
Great review! I was wondering about this pocket knife. I thought, before I put this on my wish list I'll wait for a review on gideonstactical. Then boom! here it is!
How does this compare with the spyderco manix?
If you can't afford the Manix this will be a fill in. It's not at the same level but it's not at all a bad knife.
Check out the domino a flipper cts cup steel leaf shaped blade one of my favorite I also wanna get the Yojimbo 2 but in a sprint run just bored of s30v it’s good but I have like 10 knives in it missed out on the 20 cv version sure I could get it for $200 but I’ll just wait I definitely wanna get all spyderco’s American made blades the Yojimbo 2 is the last one I can think of I believe it’s American made
"Weeeee La La La La La." Just ordered one
Thanks for video
I carried a twitch xl for years. When my boy became teenagers for Christmas we purchased the smaller twitch for them. I was
Made to look like a fool.
I bought this knife like three weeks ago and the springs already broke💀.
Really? I saw it at the store today and was going to go back to buy it.
I really like the handle scales....carbon fiber, but slightly milled for what looks like good grip.....
Is there any way to smooth out the jimping on the flipper?
Yes.
What's the jacket you were wearing in the intro?
I wanted to know that same thing.
I feel more confident EDCing this exact knife instead of EDCing that over priced piece of thin flimsy trash (commonly known as the Benchmade Bugout). This exact knife is in my EDC rotation 😎
I wouldn’t trust the Bugout even if the only thing I have is an MTech lol. BM makes such expensive flimsy knives.
This knife is overpriced for what you get, the steel for me is a dealbreaker.
Mike E weird, I like the Steel
gideonstactical I got a Kershaw Dividend in M390 steel for about $60.00. I love the blade shape and the smoothness of the deployment. I think it should be a $30 to $40 knife imo. Anyways, thanks for the good and in depth review.
Sog needs to make a hollow ground 3v bowie. For like 150$ but they would say 400$ haha. Then id buy a sog. This one is nice though
your a fool ,you should not be allowed to post until you figure out a way to get your head out.
@@gvigil609 Here's a thought,Gabe. If you choose to take someone to task, always check your spelling. In your text, your first your should be you're.
5:42 Weee la la la!
Great no butterfly tax on the abidexiuos lock
Now it comes in d2 or s35vn even better in my opinion!
generally I like this knife but I own too many knives not to be picky.
Not quite a Ganzo, at 2 to 3 times the price.
is this benchmade bugout killer?
ChillerHR I think so. The only thing going for the bugout is ultralight and s30v steel but I never liked the bugout to much. It just feels like a $5 knife from a gas station.
Now that it's available with s35vn it is. The LTE (carbon fiber liners instead of steel) I'd say beats the hell out of a LOT of benchmade's lineup.
