I'm buying one based on your great, comprehensive review. I have not been too impressed with SOG in the past, but this one definitely checks all of the boxes. I agree with your critique of the billboarding on the blade, but it's not a deal breaker for me. You're one of the best knife reviewers on TH-cam! Keep 'em coming!
The billboarding on the blade seems to make a little sense as I think SOG is trying to go for a rebranding of sorts to coincide with their improved designs.
SOG is like “oh you hate the billboarding all over this hideous pocket clip...we’ll take care of that in the next model” **silently moves the hideous billboarding to the show side of the blade** 😂
I understand whwre you're coming from, but they've toned it down in a lot of their lineup. I like the way it looks. At least it's not obnoxious like Microtechs. That shit is out of hand, I think. Like I gaf about the S/N? 🤷♂️

@@towatchvids meh, I understand the collector aspect, but it's something I don't do. I really do use my knives. I have no safe queen in my collection despite price. Except one that I only use for weddings. I get it tho.. I do.. I just dont follow the same suit.
I have it in red G10 with D2 steel and I love it. What most people dont realize is how small this knife is. I have small hands and this knife feels small. That's not a bad thing i really love everything about it.
I've had my terminus xr in s35vn for a while now and have been VERY pleased with it. I didn't have a big issue with the curved clip, but I had another SOG sitting in my collection with a compatible clip with 90 degree corners and a flat carry profile. Switched it out on a whim and it made a great knife an excellent knife. No hotspots at all, quick in and out of the pocket, and no catching the curve of the clip on anything.
I think SOG may have made some minor tweaks before the rerelease that's in the video - my example has much more mild jimping on the flipper and spine than I was expecting. It's so much different than I was expecting I have a hard time chalking it up solely to the individual finishing work.
I have tried all of the new SOG XR Manual Folders, except the Kiko. And, the Vision, Pentagon, and Seal are my SOG favorites. But, I do like my Terminus and Tac, too... Great Video! Peace, Stiletto :-)
Really good review. Totally agree on the billboarding especially the show side. I wish knife companies would make their clips look more like pens. Remove all the lettering. For that much money I want a cleaner blade than that.
Well, at least they replaced the cheese grader pocket clip and they didn't stamp their name all over the handle. That's the feature that made me nope out on a lot of SOG knives. And I would rather have the small font print on the blade than have one big obnoxious "tacticool" logo on the blade. Also, I like the fact that it has no stupid lanyard hole, we need more knives like that.

Before for around $80 g10 with cf laminate is fine but now asking full $135 we deserve full cf handles not some cheap g10 with cf laminate and cf liners make it all on piece of cf
wish you had been able to compare the xr with the lte next to each other. The lte has a lot more material cut out of the handle on the outside wich makes the thumbstud a lot easier to handle. And somehow screwholes on both side of the pivot. I love this knive.
Here I am carrying my original terminus xr and I'm like well this is a piece of crap now. Lol no carbon fiber liners no good clip thank Wayne now I got to go buy a new one lmao. Glad to see these improvements I do really enjoy my terminus xr and think I would enjoy this one even more. Great review buddy 👍
From what I understand the liners are true Carbon Fiber, but the scales are carbon fiber overlay on G10. Still great for the price given the other features. I keep coming back to wanting one. lol Probably just gonna grab one and call it a day.

Actually the only reason I have any of their blades is because my kids would buy them as gifts for me. Wasn’t big on folder but you might have sold me on this and I like they put some quality steel on it not D2. Great review and I believe your spot on with markings on blade! 100% should’ve been on box
I actually really like the lettering. They're clearly trying to position their newer higher end products as a highly "engineered" product. This kind of lettering is common to what you find on blueprints, CAD designs, and a lot of scientific and engineering tools, and the fact that they're leaning into the much spiffier sounding Studies and Observations Group instead of just SOG shows what they're trying to do with their branding. I also prefer the small, precise, sciencey lettering to the big SOG and certainly over the skull with beret logo found on other SOG products (including the original Terminus XR). Very nice review, I think SOG is killing it lately and this is my second favorite SOG knife of late - I still really like the super duper crazy light Ultra XR even though it's less fun to fidget with.
I own one, the older one in s35vn, and the pocket clip ids horrible, the way it bends and catches your pocket, and you can't get it out. They changed the look, but it'd still rounded and looks like it would still catch. They need to fill in or flatten the tip of that clip.
Can't wait for "Best Tactical Ties for 2021"! There probably may be tactical ties out there on the Dark Web. Oversized box and Swiss Graphics does not do justice to the knife it holds. Will await your long term review on this one.
Owning both a Bugout and one of these Terminus XR LTE's, I can tell you the XR lock on this knife is nowhere near as smooth as the Axis lock. I am positive the issue is that, because the XR lock is riding on a carbon fiber surface, instead of steel, it is just a little bit sticky. I also believe the XR "omega" springs are a little stiffer, and the overall result is that it just isnt as smooth as the Axis lock.
@@WaynesSharpWorld Yep, I do like them both as well. My observations were based on only owning 1 Terminus XR LTE, but I do have 10 Benchmade Axis lock knives (and all of those are really smooth). Guess I got lucky 10 for 10 :)

Meh. I’ll stick with my Skaha 2. I respect that SOG is making much better knives than the Walmart blister pack trash they ruined their reputation with. But they’ll have to stop outsourcing their labor before I buy one.

Right when they started shaking off the dust we’ve still got ridiculous branding, absurd packaging, high pricing for a Chinese made product of these materials, and no options for a non-coated blade.
I'm really excited for mine to arrive in the mail. I do agree with you on the over-marketing on the blade. I don't even like the letters on the clip. Some marketing person at SOG is insecure and thinks they will get ignored if their name isn't splashed all over the place. Too bad. Just make a good product and people will buy it!

so the biggest issue you have with the blade is a complete non issue with lefties because the show side changes sides. I think i found my new edc.

Take a look at either the XR or SJ versions, less than half of the original MSRP with nearly all the performance and easier to sharpen steel.

Yea it does boil down to the individual user. I find my Bugout to be not nearly as smooth as other bugouts. Love them both though! 👌🏼

The Skaha II is $200 ( I have the CF version) it’s a MUCH better knife.
Civivi Pintail would be a better comparison as it's CPM-S35VN
