I have taken two woodworking classes here and they were both excellent. The teachers really know their craft and enjoy teaching it. Visitors are welcome to watch and listen in any of the classes. They are so friendly that they will take time to explain things in great detail. The way they live is an expression of their faith and they will share their faith with you if you ask but they won't shove it at you. It is a very peaceful place... very busy but very peaceful. Yes, the crafts are very expensive compared to Walmart. But they are hand made to the highest standards. It is certainly not for everyone but some people would rather have a few outstanding items they will enjoy the rest of their lives rather than a pile of stuff that will fall apart in less than a year.

I've always admired the Amish and Mennonites, but also enjoy technology. I long for a slower pace of life and appreciate the old world craftsmanship and producing from the land. This community seems to have found a good balance. Would love to visit sometime.

We recommend you Make the time to visit this community North of Waco to see and understand their efforts to educate and enlighten today's public can be improved by learning to enjoy the slower pace of living for a better quality of life. We support their community as often as practical and encourage everyone to at least check out their seasonal Homestead Fair. Better yet, visit them Any and every time you travel near Waco (Elm Mott) to learn how they repurpose nature into other quality living. The Merrill's
