Gan was dumb with this release. Everyone was talking about how moyu reduced the price of theirs through eliminating redundant packaging, then gan slides out with a ridiculously overpriced cube with the FANCIEST box ever seen. Just, wow.

@@z4zeno785 it’s just long magnets. You can get the same thing by just getting some long magnets or glueing two together and another on the core for a few bucks. Nothing special.

No amount of presentation accounts for $50. If you can buy TWO of the cheaper cube that wins in a lot of categories and still have leftover, then it's not a competition. I'm normally a sucker for a fancy box and all that, but there's still a line. GAN needs to understand that they aren't actually leaps (no pun intended) above every other manufacturer and come back down to earth. There really isn't a place for an Apple or a Mercedes company in speedcubing lol

I agree with your verdict, for the same reasons, the heavier feel just makes it feel like I can speedsolve with it without being afraid it would break, which is a big thing for me since my turning style is a bit aggressive
If you're afraid that the moyu cube's frosted paint may get scratches over time, just be aware that you can literally buy 2-3 more moyu 2021 and it will be cheaper than a gan 12 maglev
Just ordered a wrm maglev off scs last night. Since I saved $50 I got some lube and a $25 mystery cube. Still came in way cheaper than gan12 maglev. I think I made a good choice 😁

@@joenappier9507 yeahhh i didn’t want to wait till late October, but then i saw the cubicle had the maglev wrm in stock and my order already shipped. I order from both SCS and the Cubicle all the time. sometimes each have in stock what the other doesn’t, and each will have good deals on different things and what not. I always check between the two for whats in stock

So basically, the Gan 12 is like an antique vase - you'll buy it at a high price but you're afraid to break it... so you might not use it as much.
And MoYu's cube brings more value beyond it's looks.
Why? I have a Gan 11 and use it all the time. No worries about breaking it. Feels pretty durable.

The 11 is probably stronger.
The 12 is lighter despite having more magnets. So, they probably have a much thinner plastic.

Just bought the Moyu and it instantly replaced my Gan 11 M pro as my main. I love the way it turns. I added a little lube and increased the spring tension - it is so smooth and stable. I have not tried the Gan maglev, but this video and my experience has convinced me that I made the correct choice with the Moyu.

@@scylk its all personal in the end, i'd say even tho 11 M Pro could be set up as quite fast cube, it is significantly more stable and forgiving than WRM. i doubt there are lots of people capable of utilizing full speed of WRM, in 2H speedsolve atleast.
@@Baneblast I tried to say the same, but after a while of using the gan 11 m pro, it was really easy to corner twist and pop, even in it's tightest but fastest settings. The Moyu has a stronger piece design and yet still stays fast and reasonably light.
@@6creamyway993 idk, maybe you damaged it or smth, never had a pop on Gan. Anyway now there is Tornado v3 for ppl who dont like the paper-like-feel of Gan cubes, i'd go with that one instead of WRM for sure
I've been a MoYu owner for some time starting with the original GTS & have been using a MoYu GTS3M as my main cube for a while.
Wanted a new cube and was looking at getting the GAN 12 maglev till I came across your video.
Looked at the prices of the GAN VS MoYu cubes in the UK & after seeing your findings decided to go with the MoYu WRM maglev at less than half the price of the GAN cube.
I am still wanting to try a GAN cube at some point but with such a massive difference in price that wont be for a while.

Haven't truied the Gan 12 yet, but I'm happy to see my favorite cube win. The Gan 11 M Pro used to be my main cube until I got the WRM Maglev. It just feels so good, and you can't beat those purple internals.
I ordered the moyu maglev today and I can't wait for it to arrive! I've heard many fantastic things about this cube and let's hope i can say the same.
Hey Cameron! I don’t like Gan (mostly personal reasons) so the choice is easy for me.
In terms of durabiliy, the GAN cube will have the edge because of the UV coating, which the MoYu cube doesn't have. I.e. it's not so attracting to scratches and will not eventually turn into a glossy cube, which many frosted cubes do. If you the cubes yourself, take the WRM, if you want a fancy present for christmas or birthday, take the GAN.
You act like the frosted plastic turning into glossy is bad. Take the MGC sq1 for example. most people modded their sq1 to get a more polished plastic because its more grippable. (i do understand most people arent familiar with sq1 but the point stands)

I agree with the purple internals of the wrm
I just got my GAN 12 UV, at the beginning I was reluctant to purchase GAN 12 due to the high price tag but anyway I decided to go for it. I like GAN 12 UV very much and if anyone worries that it's going to pop and break apart during solving the cube, please stop worrying about that. To break it during solving the cube, that person needs to purposely apply the force to break this GAN 12 cube. Overall, good cube but it is pricy.

Here are my opinion about Moyu Worm (WRM) 2021 Maglev after using it for 3 weeks:
Pros:
1/ It’s easier to adjust the Maglev(spring) compression.
2/ For me, it has slightly better corner cut than Gan 11 or maybe even Gan 12.
3/ The Worm 2021 Maglev has the very cool internal color.
Cons
1/It’s so fast that sometimes I can’t control it and cause errors on it, especially U2 flicks. (You can solve it by changing the spring or Maglev compression.)
2/ It’s annoying to me for adjusting magnet and because of that stupid plastic sword.( Just watch Jperm’s review about the Worm 2021 to know why.)
For Gan 12, I have not try it yet, but my prediction are:
1/ It would be easier to control since it has corner to core magnet.
2/ It would have better grip because of UV coated.
3/ I’ve heard that it has the same core adjustment as Gan 11 mini, so I may have some trouble not knowing which Maglev(spring) level I chose.
4/ It may be have the same feeling as the Gan 11 pro but more controllable.
Edit: I finally got a 12 maglev and u know what? It sucks at corner-cutting, the cube feel too awful and awkward too turn, it locks up a lot, so frick this cube and frick every single expectations and impressions I have on this. I wish I could tell 2022 me how bad it is and I wish I didn’t lost 80 USD for nothing, the WRM and Gan 11 is way better than this.

The 12 Maglev doesn't feel like the 11 M Pro. Faster turning, sort of completes turns by itself, and can be extremely uncontrollable on the right settings. I have my compression at max, maglev on 3, and magnets on setting 2 to get a controllable feel while still letting the cube be fast. My 11 M Pro is more stable, but much slower.

I understand the UV has a better grip than the frosted, but the UV makes the color almost look blurry. I personally think the frosted surface looks better, especially with that purple internal. Maybe I'm one of the only ones who think that, but yeah. Of course, the GAN 12 looks great, just the WeiLong looks awesome to me.

I honestly think that the WRM is more stronger and more solid whereas the Gan is just more fragile to handle. Everytime i hold any of my gan cubes, i never feel that kind of comfort turning the cubes. I think it's just because of the price that makes me so careful with the cube and felt uncomfortable with my turning skills. You got what i mean? So WRM is a TOTAL WIN! For the price, the quality and the adjustment settings.
I've got both of these. The GAN is the better cube, in my opinion. Once you adjust to the self-alignment behaviour of the GAN, with those outrageously long core to corner magnets, the light weight and strong magnets make the turning so effortless and accurate. When I pick up the WRM now, it feels heavy and clunky, and accurate turning requires much more intentionality. Additionally, so many people say they feel there is a catching issue with the GAN (see J Perm's vid), but I actually find catching to be a bigger problem with the WRM, where the catch doesn't jam up completely, but it slows the turn down, makes a weird click sound, and causes a weird rebound at the end of the turn that throws off my rhythm and frequently causes a misturn or a hesitation right afterwards, because I'm unsure if the turn completed properly (especially on D and B faces). Just my two cents worth. Still really like the WRM, but very much prefer the GAN.

Couple things I want to mention about this battle. Both Gan and Moyu kind of screwed up their implementation of Maglev. I guess they've never heard of the inverse square law. In other words, If the distance between two magnets is doubled the magnetic force between them will fall to a quarter of the initial value. The actual "tensioning" is not linear as the tensioning systems seem to suggest on both of these cubes. I noticed this when I got my Moyu WRM 2021 and I noticed it when I played with my friend's the Gan 12. This is why when you tighten the cubes to their limit, they feel really really tight and almost unusable and its also why these cubes feel so fast. Both Gan and Moyu need to redesign their tensioning systems to not be linear. Each click should be about half as large as the last click if they want a more "linear" feel.
Anyhow, with that rant out of the way. I can say that I like the Moyu WRM but I also think that if you really want to get a maglev cube right now, get the RS3M and just take the maglev system out of it and put it into a WRM 2020 or 2019. Frankly, I personally liked the 2020 much more than the 2021 and with maglev, this cube feels pretty good.
This is the most substantial critique of the MagLev Tech I've read so far.
Now I understand why some people say it's not yet ready to become the standard.
@@thesphyrth it will eventually become the standard but you can tell that moyu and gan rushed it out to compete with one another. That said, gan did put a little thought into their new tensioning system but it still wasn't designed for maglev

@@Cubing-Carter yeah, no that's not really a thing. Both gan and moyu release flagship cubes. Both companies also release cheaper lines. Price has nothing to do with quality or how high end a cube is. This year the best cube is between the tornado V3 and the rs3 super
What if the Moyu WRM MagLev had PVC coating from speedcubeshop and then add the magnetic core conversion kit, then would it be even better than GAN 12 or 13? It would get the nice cosmetic comparison to UV coating and maybe even comparable/better turning from the magnetic core?

Coolest thing will be if they make a GAN 12 Duo like they did for the 11M , just take the customisability out of the corner and edge pieces. And sell it cheaper. I have a 356M and I feel it's waayyy better than the Xman V2 or even the WRM 2021.

I just can't stop comparing Gan vs Moyu to Apple vs Android. The cubes are both great, but Gan is slightly more sleek. The accessories are more organized too.
I have my WRM Maglev on the way, and I'll get a Gan 12 later on :) We'll see who wins. Gan 11 and WRM 2020 are both my favorites, but I use the 11 more. Can't resist those looks, stability and the UV coating feel.

@@geo00769 The WRM. The Gan 11 (and 12 Leap), as all Gan cubes, broke in and became worse in my opinion. Lube gums up very easily, and the overall feel is not great. The WRM only got better with breaking in. I main it now.
Personally i prefer the really light gan 11 and 12 because lighter cubes feel faster

Go with the leap, because it has better corner cutting and better stability with some (a tiny bit) of friction, compared to 12 maglev which is very fast and has quite a lot of lock-ups. But if you want that UV coating, go with the 12 maglev
you can get the same experience on a cheaper price with the wrm 21

I think this one is the same with gan 11 m pro but with addition magnets in centers.
But I don't like my gan 11 m pro because:
- very demanding on lubrication. It must be very fluid. It’s hard for me to get it every time. And if I use the most fluid oils from other manufacturers, and they are usually more viscous than gun oil, then the cube becomes rubbish
- gets dirty very quickly and loses torsion.
- takes a long time to clean
- New system with magnets in diagonals, it actually takes more effort to turn the edge. My previous tengyan v1 spins softer quiker and smaller distance required to start turning
- I like light turning, but the gun is more suitable for those who are using more force for turning. Magnets to heavy,
- I took the frost version, matte, and after 3 days I already had it completely glossy.

The only things I'd value in the Pro are the UV coated and the black internals options. Otherwise, Duo makes much more sense because the magnet strength is just perfect.

Hello. When I was tracking my order, it said "want a birthday gift?" I would like to know what that was so I could make sure its not a scam.
Gan cubes are focusing on reducing the weight of the cube as much as they can (which make the 11m pro and every gan cube after that releasing feels fragile and hollow). Lots of people are having trouble on the 11m pro, such as magnets falling out, broken corner feet. So if you're about to get a gan cube, my recommendation will be the xs, or the air m. Cubes before the xs (such as the x) have a blocky feel, meanwhile cubes released after the xs, have a hollow and fragile feel, so... yeah, get the xs or air m
I have to agree with you here. The cost of these cubes isn't an issue for me and I own all of them, but my cube of choice is the Gan Air M. It feels very slightly sturdier than the XS, and the magnets can't break because they aren't adjustable. Only 30 dollars is pretty nice too.
Beside, Gan’s core adjustments is pretty suck, so I love Moyu cubes more.

Huh Ive never heard of issues with the 11M Pro, but then again I don’t follow cubing content too closely. I own both the 11M Pro, XS, and the new MagLev WRM just came in today for me. The XS was the first one I got, and although it feels nice, it’s a bit too unstable IMO (could just be how I tensioned it). The 11M Pro on the other hand, it feels super stable while being pretty fast. I don’t ever feel like it’s going to break, and I’ve had it for about 6 months now (I don’t cube too much though), but that is sad to hear that people have had issues with a $70 cube. I’ve never had a WRM before, and using the new one with the MagLev system is insane. It feels frictionless and is easily the fasted cube I’ve ever used. It’s a bit too fast for me to control at times, so I definitely need to mess around with some lubes. Right now the 11M Pro is better to me (might just be because I am used to it), but I would definitely get the WRM over the XS (I’ve never used an Air before). I’ll definitely be waiting on getting the new 12M Pro, as I can’t justify spending that much for minor changes while also already having a MagLev cube

For big cubes it may be harder to do but it might be possible
