    OG all day.

  • @FedericoMK
    @FedericoMK หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Thanks for this!!!!!!
    my take after hearing it with headphones:
    - RI sounds good, it has the character and tone. No doubt about it.
    Mid hump in the 750-ish is there, but it might be also due to the fact that the GEQ faders are not the same of the OG.
    Or might be due to modern OT.
    I have a SRGX and HRGX, pentode gives you a bit more of hump, but in the mid to low mid section , not like the RI here, IMHO.
    - ....however when you turned on the OG and IIB I could instantly recognize that character that I'm used to, and that I can find in all my OGs, (SGX, HRGX, DGX):
    more raw, more sparkle in the upper mids, more aggression, more alive so to speak.
    so the RI sounds good and no doubt is great, but compared to the OG, IIB and III+ RI sounds like it has a blanket on the speaker.
    Same as comparing a polished Friedman vs an old untamed Marshall.
    Did you try to give the RI more presence? did it help?

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Have you tried a Runt 50? Other than his Plex50, I think that the Runt is the most raw and unpolished marshall Dave makes. I liked it better than the BE50 LOL. Like just gimme the runt and a drive pedal and I'm good.

    • @TIGHTENmetal
      @TIGHTENmetal  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In hindsight I should have ramped up the presence on the RI but I forgot. That may have helped.
      Despite the mid hump, which isn't that bad compared to a JP, the RI to me doesn't have the same "blanket" thing as most IIIs (not this one) do. It was still super pleasing & easy on the ears, clear with no fatigue.

    OG for the win.

  • @michaelallen981
    @michaelallen981 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Fantastic job with the comparison. For my perspective, there’s a distinct mid tone shift with reissue what seems to be very common among recent audio clips. I own a seven and a JP do you think it’s overly redundant to add the re issue ?

    • @TIGHTENmetal
      @TIGHTENmetal  หลายเดือนก่อน

      First blush as an OG II/III guy, I like the RI WAY more than the JP and the VII. I will give the JP a nod for live work, and I'll give the VII the nod for bedroom work, but I'd take the RI any day for what I'm looking for.

  • @ultimatemetalguitartones
    @ultimatemetalguitartones หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    Maybe the best comparison so far. To me the the RI doesn't sound as full - warm and ballsy as the rest of the amps, which sound amazing by the way... I know that the video might not do justice but again in my opinion it's easy to tell which one is the RI. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with the OG - IIB. • @Farhadhp1
    @Farhadhp1 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great video, Jeremy! I've noticed that the III was darker than the IIC+ OG. Is it because of the III's nature that it has more low mids and low ends than the IIC+ such that they are more pronounced, or is it because of the cab's position towards the mics? Are the amps set to the same settings or to match the tone?
    ETA: correction for OG instead of RI.

    • @TIGHTENmetal
      @TIGHTENmetal  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's just how they were dialed, not really in reality. The III is a little more dry than the II, but still within the World of Marks. The knobs were set the same at first then I made some tweaks for the room, but I was going more for "killer tone" than "make them as close as possible".

      Yeah, I have some opinions here. For my 7 string in std tuning, it kills with all of them except the IIB- and I LOVE my IIB. For my 6 string that's downtuned to D std. I'd say it works equally well with all of them, however the modern Marks I do think have the advantage as tunings go down. With the vintage marks I do think they sound BEST in E or Eb.

    This sounds like the reissue had less volume hitting the power amp than the og im sure they would be closer with more adjusting the reissue. It just sounds quiet and has that weak feeling like when either my lead master or master 1 is down. Or the reissue has less 80hz at the same slider position and needs to be higher to match maybe. Also maybe needs more presence to match og.

    • @TIGHTENmetal

    I am assuming that each amp is going through the cab that it is sitting on. Given that the cabs are all oriented slightly differently, and placed at slightly different spots in the room, the camera mic will pick up different reflections and the source.
    The OG IIC+ still sounds mean and aggressive. I don´t think the RI can really compete in that regard. Not to mention the fact that they discourage high gain use because of the whole microphonics issue. How can OG pull off high gain with 40 year old technology, while reissue is struggling this bad, is beyond me.

      If you don't like this kind of demo, there are plenty of great Dinesh demos out there you may enjoy!

      @ it’s what you say, it’s something and it’s not really good. But in this case no one could make the difference… so why do it….? It’s not that hard to make something good that we can show and share to people. In this case it’s not a good example about the difference in sound. That’s what I tried to say

    The mark III ‘s to me were better amps even back in the day and I have them all. Green stripe red stripe black dot and they just all around had better tone. All very close but I’m a 3 fan from back in the day.
