I have a JP2C. I don’t need a 2C+, but I kind of want one. I don’t know if push/pulls are enough of a difference spring 4K. But Doug certainly makes a deep case for consideration. I appreciate you bro.
It's not just the push pulls. Its also that the IIC+ RI is Simulclass and wired in Triode function for the power section. The JP2C is based on the Class A/B HRG which is hard wired to Pentode function for the power section. The power amps will have a fundamentally different feel.
@ I certainly appreciate the physical differences, but is it that much of a departure to justify a $4K difference? Or is it just a slight feel difference? The tones I hear on every clip sound vastly similar.
@@michaeledwards7088 Some people (me included) love the Simulclass sound and feel, plus on the IIC+ you can run a mix of 6L6 and EL34s which some people swear by. As to the price, yeah it feels pretty hefty but they had to source parts that weren't currently in production so that definitely raises costs for sure. It's still a price that I'm considering selling my Mark V to purchase the IIC+ RI (seeing the whole reason I bought the Mark V is because I wanted the IIC+ mode which was a disappointment).
@@Eliphas_Elric Hey! Yes, the power amp sections are definitely different. The funny thing is that I'm not sure which I prefer now. I love the tightness of the HRG and JP~2C, but there is a liquid quality to the DRGs that is really nice sonically and under the fingers. I did double check and it's my understanding that the Class A/B tubes are running in Pentode, and as you pointed out the Class A pair are running in Triode, which to me explains how it's both tight and fluid at the same time, crazy that one amp can do that:)
How does the onboard reverb sound particularly with clean/ edge of breakup settings, sorry if I missed it here somewhere. I have the old fender deluxe tweed that I run a fender spring reverb unit in the front for those drippy splashy tones. Would this amp be able to get some of that mojo with the onboard tank?
Hey George! This clip is from the first video, and while it's a bit past the edge of breakup it's not too far so. To my ear this is the 'Boogie take' on Fender's verb - more refined with less 'boing' - you can hear it clearly at the end of this demo, I think you'd dig it. I'll circle back when I get a chance to crank it way up - THANKS:) th-cam.com/video/tvcjbOnoKSs/w-d-xo.html

Doug - I presently own 2 Mesa amps and have owned 4. I've played several IIC+ amps. Love em all. But I don't want, or need, any amp over 25w and nothing that weighs over 50 pounds. And neither do 99% of players imo. As great as this IIC+ re-issue may be - if you gave me one I'd sell it :) I doubt Mesa will sell many of these IIC+ re-issues. If they want to sell lots more amps suggest they make a 25w version of Mark VII
Hey Peter - thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts - BOTH appreciated. So, while I recently bought a the Badlander 25 for ALL the reasons you just mentioned. My 'old' fly rig was Mark V 25 that would come on the plane with me in a carry-on suitcase, so I'm with you on the the high gain front. However, in terms of the however for clean headroom in a live situation especially, both my Fillmore heads are 50 watters. Once I start competing with bass and drums I find that I really need the extra wattage to keep the cleans, well, clean. As far as the weight goes, ever for small local gigs I haul one of my big heads and a pair of Recto oversize cabs. The big takeaway on the live front for me from 2024 was/is FILL THE ROOM. There's a funky local bar that I play at sometimes, and two times ago I brought my JP~2C and a pair of 1x12 cabs that rocked rehearsal, but just didn't have enough girth to fill the room, especially once the band was playing. Lesson learned. For the albums I'm working on I have a pair of Badlaner 50 combos that just doing a a phenomenal job. I started on a Mark IIB back in the day, so carrying some weight in my world comes with 'tone territory'. The great things about Boogie world is that there are lots of options. I was curious to see how the JP~2C combo was with high gain tones and it was AWESOME. Not everyone has the ability to haul a pair of 4x12 Recto cabs around, and I continue to be amazed by how well the old school 1x12 combo format works today, with or without additional cabinetry. Again, that's what works in my world, thanks for sharing what works for you:)
Hey Merseybeat! The GREAT thing about 'this amp' is that that there have been a number of amps that included the DNA, but for other very good reasons brought their own things to the party.
