Not sure about that James Blunt, mind 😉 ive got that Cure compilation, on my original cassette ( im sure its a double with b sides on tape 2). That was interesting...good video. I like to see what other stuff people are into. I'm not exclusively metal and never have been. I have to say the last album that actually blew me away wasn't that long ago.... you'll know of it as I've mentioned it plenty of times.... Avantasia's Moonglow from 2019. It wasn't instant though.... it grew on me the more songs i listened to and every time i listen to it now I'm blown away.
As for your 10 bands here.... I would only give the time of day to The Beatles and The Housemartins.... not fussed for the others but those styles of bands don't really do it for me.
But this is where I always say music is such a personal thing... everybody is moved by it in different ways and by different styles.

Hatful of Hollow (which I bought the day it came out, one of four I've replaced since) is a compilation, which containsa couple of the singles (William and Heaven), but the majority are the BBC session versions, in many regards superior to the studio versions. Of course 'How Soon Is Now' was originally a b-side. Nice video, great albums. Were you a Redskins fan? New Model Army? Prefabs?

    • @telsutton
      @telsutton 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@metalmickeyNo, I wasn't invited to join... one aft I went for a drinking sesh with Paul, to a karaoke on Newland Ave... turned out later it was an audition... I did 'Heard It Through The Grapevine' and it was only later my our mutual mate Nick told me I'd sung myself out of a place in the band. It's a long story but I was frontman/songwriter with The Way from 85-90, and we kept bumping into The Housemartins at the Ferrybridge services. We had a lot of interest fro Go Discs (their label), and Phil Jupitus arranged for me to meet their management with a view to supporting them at the Sheffield Leadmill. They agreed we could but then we got bumped for The Farm so we - an eight piece that day - played on the back of a truck on Leadmill Road, and that's how I struck up a friendship with them... Paul should have played on our last demos (recorded in Hull at Fairview, May 88) but their final single got in the charts and he phoned from the Top of the Pops studio to apologise. Good lad, has always given me a +1 on the guest list. Tbh, at the time Tracie Young (who I'd been in lov with since I was 13) had just got out of her Respond Records contract and joined The Way, so I probably would have said 'No'.

I just picked up that Arctic Monkeys CD last week, I had it on mp3 back in the day and it blew me away. Not heard it since around 2010 before last week and I still knew all the words. I've been dipping into my non-metal collection a bit recently, who knows I may come out of video retirement to make a response, but I'll probably have talked myself out of that idea within an hour... 🤣 The Cure were a very good singles band, bit of a cop out including a best of in a perfect album list though lol. Dookie is magic. Hull 4 London 0 is my goto HM album. Enjoyed this one.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you much about these albums, except for The Cure, which is a really strong compilation album.
Of course, I don't just listen to metal. You don't just drink tea either ... 😂
So here are 10 non Metal albums that I personally think are perfect:
Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence (2014)
    Agnes Obel - Philharmonics (2010)
    Massive Attack - Mezzanine (1998)
Johnny Cash - America: A 200 Year Salute in Story and Songs (1972)
    Pink Floyd - Meddle (1971)
Queen - A Night at the Opera (1975)
The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland (1987)
    Depeche Mode - Violator (1990)
    R.E.M - Automatic for the People (1992)
    Morcheeba - Charango (2002)

Good idea for a topic Mike. Quite a few things you showed I wasn't expecting to see but if it's a good album and you like it why not have it in the collection. That Billy Talent album was huge back in the day, a pal had it in his car for months. Yeah early Beatles and Green Day are where it's at for me. Other none metal bands I like are Tom Petty, The Kinks, The Who and Steppenwolf. All have quite a few almost perfect or perfect albums.

I have to correct myself, the creator of Metal Mickey did not record the "Soundhouse Tapes", he was the owner of the studio where Maiden rehearsed in the late 70s.
The last album that blew me away was the Asinhell (Volbeat/Morgoth project) one, I still have it in my car. I must have played it over 50 times now.
The Quo comparison on Anti Nowhere... I can see that, they have a lot of Boogie in their songs.
A couple of my Non - Metal 10/10 albums are:
Bad Religion - Against the Grain
Fields Of The Nephilim - The Nephilim
    Camel - Mirage
    Eloy - Dawn
    ZZ Top - Degüello
I loved The Housemartins when I was a kid, haven´t heard them since the mid 80s, maybe I should...

Hi Mickey. I have four of those; Beatles, Green Day, The Cure and Smiths. Of the rest i am aware of all them, but only heard Housemartins as i do have their compilation. I think they are great, but for whatever reason i've never got around buying their albums. In fact just today i saw that album at the store and yet once again i passed on it.
btw. did you know that the Cure comp. was released with two a bit different sleeves, another being more form distance showing the old guy and a bit of the surroundings and also with a different title. Vinyl being Standing On a Beach. The both titles being the first two lines of the song Killing An Arab. Your the Cure story was an odd one, but i do have somewhat similar stories myself.

Really interesting video Mike - some very good albums on show, here!
Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Billy Talent, early Green Day (Dookie and Insomniac are where it's at with them, for me), The Beatles, The Anti-Nowhere League (thanks to Metallica) and The Smiths are all bands I like to varying degrees. James Blunt, however, was responsible for ruining my life back in the summer of 2005, alongside whoever that cunt was that released that 'Bad Day' song that was constantly on the radio at the same time! 😂
