We mourn with you David. Both for the motor and loss of the workshop. I have to say I’ve admired your shop since day 1. I’m sure it’ll work out better in the end.
Another good video Dave. Its not just the subject matter i enjoy its also your manner. You're a chap i could spend hours chatting with over a few beers. Keep em coming Davo!
I do love beer... if you are ever in Virginia...
I've been binge watching all the garelli content! It's great! I have a 78 rally sport with the noi
Awww man! I just finished the last few minutes of the video. I hope you get the Garelli going great. It sure does look nice. Hope you’re not fighting with it too long. Spring is right around the corner and guys like you have family to tend to AND a half dozen mopeds to ride. Good luck. 🍀👍🏻
Thanks 👍
I modified the electronic parts from a bike called TVS champ back in india, I owned the same garrelli but called avanti. The whole set Just started beautifully and no starting trouble ever more. ❤️👍🏻
Brilliant video as always David, I love following your ups and downs along your journey, looking forward to seeing where you move to
Now that I'm in quarantine, I'll have plenty of time to put the new shop video out :-)
Oh what a shame david.46 mph ain't bad .hope you get it sorted soon .. great vid .loved you doing the timing I learnt alot .
Thanks 👍
I love your videos dave I rebuilt my first moped by watching your stuff, a tomos lx top tank, keep up the in depth videos man! 🤘🤘
Awesome! I love to hear that. I hope they helped you in your adventure!
great job my friend! Greating from iTALY!
Thank you for the timing explanation. I have done it a million times on my Datsun 240Z and other vintage JDM cars but never with a moped. Definitely will be checking mine now. Thanks for the honestly of your videos. I get so into them I want to get up sometimes and hand you a wrench or a screwdriver. My Motobecane is coming along great with all your input from the videos. I hit 32 MPH on my GPS. Just ordered some goodies hope to get it to 38 MPH. Looking forward to the new shop. If you are ever in Fl with the family let us know. We would like to meet you sometime.
Well, my dad lives in Pensacola, so I do get down there sometimes. Good luck with that Moby! And thanks again for the shout out on your channel!
Oh..nice looking tire on the front. Deleted chrome fender looks great!
Thanks 👍
Dave. Great explaination on timing. Makes more sense than those kids using arithmetic to figure it out. Unfortunately I can't access a digital caliper so I have to use the manual figure of 18 degrees BTDC which seems to be dead on without starting the bike.
I really enjoyed your Garelli videos. Cheers from Italy!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for sharing your method of setting the timing.
You bet
Fortunato questo Garelli.
Yes a upload!! :) sucks that you have to leave the workshop, you probable found something better in the near future :)
You did a good job explaining the ignition timing 😁 Its very usefull 👌 It sucks that the engine broke, lets hope its an easy fix ✌️
It sucks that you’re losing your shop, but I have a feeling you’ll find something better. Nice work on the Garelli too by the way, I think that Polini cylinder is too much for that bottom end Lol
I might blow it up! You wouldn't believe how this thing pulls. Or at least did before I broke it.. :-(
Don't despair! It could be something really simple. Maybe the sprocket is loose? Maybe one of the nuts inside the transmission started backing off? They need to be torqued properly, loctite helps too. At least we know it isn't the cylinder or crankshaft, because its only making that noise when you turn the rear tire...has to be the transmission. They're such small and simple engines, it could only be so many things. Looking forward to figuring it out together!
Knock the guts out of an old spark plug, so all you have is the metal hex and thread part. Then wedge a dial indicator inside where the ceramic used to be with a piece of vacuum or other soft line of the right diameter and you have the perfect tool to find TDC. It's super accurate and as a bonus it leaves both your hands free.
I've got my own little timing tool as well that I made from an old spark plug. It does work well, especially on Moby's or other bikes where you don't have much room above the cylinder to get that caliper in. I actually recorded a bunch of video about making that tool, I just never edited it and put it up :-)
Hang in there David
That pipe sounds great Dave . I’m curious to know how well those two speed VIP’s pull. I’m up to 202 lbs now and my mopeds don’t like me taking them on the longer hills. It was sunny and around 60 yesterday. We haven’t had much a winter up here on northern Chesapeake. I thought I’d be spending some cold days in the warm garage tinkering with my Gran Sport Garelli. Time has just been wizzin by. Anyway, the warm day had me out on my scooters yesterday. I did crank over and let my 78 Garelli idle for 10-15min. Had a ball out at 37 MPH yesterday. Had to come in around 4:30. Sun gets low and it gets cold. It is still February. I think I’m gonna go buy myself a cheapie timing light. Thanks for the timing lesson.
Yeah. I hover around 200lbs myself, and I've noticed that when I drop 15 or 20, the mopeds speed up :-)
Is that a polini team cylinder on a VIP? About time I'm seeing people use them since there aren't many Garelli teams in the US.
Oh yeah!!!
what's the last song in this video? you always have great music!
Where did you find this L-shaped pipe in the beginning of the video? Thanks for helping.
Can you put the links of all the parts like CDI box, coil nd coil ignition need to order the exact same parts
Hi I am from Argentina we're yo get the CDI
Hi Dave... Have you figured out the problem with the Garelli? I am going to start on the motor rebuild on the same bike, but would like to know what I should be careful of. Have you worked on it and made the video figuring the problem yet? Haven't seen anything on it yet. Thanks
Finally. Its up!
Hi Dave, I just bought a 1978 Garelli VIP with 25 miles. The spark plug has no spark. I’ve read threads about it, but can’t seem to get it working. I can across your video and you seem to know a lot about them. Can you give me any advice? I was given a new flywheel from the previous owner thinking that was the problem.
Have you cleaned the points? They are probably all corroded and aren’t making good contact.
Sir My Gaerlli pickup problem solve solution's .
How many ftlbs. do you torque the clutch nut down to on an A55 engine?
It’s hard to keep the clutch from spinning, so pretty much impossible to get a good torque reading on that. I do it to about 4 ugga-uggas on my impact driver 🤓
15:37 .... I spy a Honda!!!
Ha! So much for my sneaky next project 😜. Good eyeballs!
bravoooo
If it chokes out giving it some throttle half way probably means 1. too much mixture or 2. too much air or too much gasoline, 3. spark plug type is wrong. What heat range spark plug are you running? A NGK BR7 should be enough. A too cold spark plug leads "hick ups" while riding because the mixture isn't burning all the way
Thanks. I am using the BR7HS. I think it was the electrical system, cause after I replaced that, the thing took off!
Hallo, wie kann ich dich was fragen, Email oder so, Gruss Matthias
