Gavin is one of a very few jockey who are genuine horsemen. He communicates with horses in a way very few can and his presentation at a fence is Francomesque.. He used every tool in his extensive box of tricks and kept this horse interested and more importantly jumping .. The brave horse stays all day and simply outstayed them
How did Hewick win that? He looked completely outpaced from over a mile out. I’m guessing he must have been maximum odds in running. Superb effort from horse and jockey.
If the ground turned up anyway decent u would give him a decent shout in a gold cup.was he out on his feet last year when he fell?brilliant performance though the prize money alone he has won from the cost is unreal talk about a bargain 😊
Shark is a real judge of horses. Cane from another county to sweep past BMG making him look very ordinary. Shishkin with doubtless Nicky sweating buckets and not due to his increasing size but due to the surly attitude of his charge, was under a pump for a while and i believe was beaten when un shipping Boinville. Hewick ran these down under pressure whole of final circuit like they were selling platers to win craftily. Congratulations to Shark and the team for the win at Kempton where the top novice chase there escaped the top trainers as well.
Heart broken for shishkin deep down if he’d stayed on his feet I think he would of been second but he didn’t deserve to find out like that gutted well done hewick great race

Its back to the drawing board for pundit punters trying to sort out the limited efforts of some runners when push comes to shove instructions prevail. Who's protecting martin lewis's feelings now 🤭 Not the pin sticking chancing a bit of value public who's audience is paramount in support. Horseracing purists won't mind this result a bit, WOOP-WOOP

Presume Shiskin will aim for compensation in the Gold Cup. At this stage he looks best of the British Contenders in a race that looks wide open. The Novice 3 mile chase was run 4 secs quicker. The winner IL Est Francais is said to have the Grand Steeple Chase de Paris over 3m 5F at the end of May as his big season target. Maybe the connections might consider a crack at the Gold Cup in March en route.
Not sure how that works but quite regularly the novice race is run faster than the King George. I think it's fair to say this race completely fell apart once Shishkin unseated at the 2nd last.
@Essydyk That is not true. The Novices is not regularly faster. You get the odd one such as in Frodon's year which was one of the worst KG's in last 10 years. What that French horse did today was something else.
Took 16-1 on the horse on Saturday had a £100 bet , just felt was time a larger price winner of this race was due and front 3 in market pony now so £1700 in the sky rocket .. lovely ..
After watching it back again from Hewicks perspective I'm still wondering how he got there, great job by the jockey. He must have been 1000-1 in running heading to final bend but stayed on dourly giving impression they went off too hard. Fair play to connections on rolling the dice again with this horse, some story behind it and doesnt even need Hollywood to gloss it up if it was made into a film.

Good question, Shishkin's legs are so fragile i think Hewick would have passed him anyway going like a train. I backed Hewick having trusted Shark's sensible faith in his courage and speed, tho his jumping is'nt perfect.

100%.....God knows what people watch, Shiskin wins all day long if he doesn't unseat Nico....but he interfered with BMG and he easily lost his momentum, BMG was stoked up to make his challenge, by the time he lost his momentum Hewick was in his rhythm....thats horse racing for you.....Shiskin is a monkey but if you trust him he must have a chance of the gold Cup Ps I backed BMG, that is his gold cup as he can't win the Cheltenham version
It was a brilliant ride.He never gave up pushing him into the race.He was brilliant on Datsalrightgino in The Coral Cup and again on Fugitif in The December Gold Cup..Man of the moment 👏
