I think Kauto Star was the best horse I saw over fences, yeah he lost his crown to his stablemate Denman who was a beast BUT the Champ won it back. I think Kauto was the best since Arkle & I would be surprised if Ruby said he sat on a better one & he has sat on some crackers.

Sprinter Sacre before injury was the best 2 mile horse i had ever seen, but his comeback year (still with a dodgy heart) was unbelievable and very emotional, dont forget Un de Sceaux was the Champion select and a terrific horse but he couldnt get near Sprinter, an incredible training feat and the horse of a lifetime
The GOLD CUP that Dessie won has to be one of the GREATEST performances by a horse EVER. He has to go a quarter of a mile further than he's ever been before & even worse on that really bad ground against Yahoo who loves the soft/heavy ground. I'll never forget Dessie's GOLD CUP,, i got 9/2 because of the ground but I think his SP was 10/3 or 7/2 but he was magic.

Desert Orchid was an enigma like Kauto Star able to do 2 miles to 3 1/4 miles BUT Dessie winning the Tingle Creek 88/89 season under 12 Stone, 89 Gainsborough Chse giving Pegwell Bay 18lb & a beating & the Victor Chandler giving Panto Prince seasoned 2 miler 22lb & won & then over to the Irish National giving 2 Stone away & won easy. Dessie truly was a REMARKABLE chaser. R.I.P CHAMP 🙏

Red Rum’s 1973 race against Crisp one of the greatest performances ever to reel him in from that far back and win the greatest steeplechase the Grand National in that fashion should be on of the top six performances of any generation then to go on and win it three times in total, that will never be matched though Tiger Roll gave it a go.
As for Kauto Star i think he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Arkle 100%. Truth is Flyingbolt was at least Arkle's equal but possibly better as the great flat trainer Paddy Prendergast said to Jockey of both Arkle & Flyingbolt Pat Taffe who himself replied with a smile ONLY.
Had Sprinter backed antepost at 20/1 before his comeback. Then when he ran in sholer chase had a nice four figure bet on. Paid for several holidays happy days

Commentator saying this is probably the greatest Mares Hurdle that Honeysuckle won with Queens Brook, Epatante, Love Envoi, Brandy Lane ? 😂 So of Quevega's 6 x mares wins were poor fields & Annie Power's was against a weak feild too. Honeysuckle was a fantastic mare winner 2 x Champion Hdle & Irish Champion Hdle & had a great win sequence but never the strongest Mares Hdle at Cheltenham.

I agree most of my mates were fans of Kauto Star but it was always "The Tank" for me and the guts to win that Henessey took your breath away,
I remember being awestruck as I watched that on the day.
