I was stationed in Pearl Harbor from 1999 - 2003. I can attest to the fact that there was, at the time, four Irish Pubs in Honolulu. but only two worth mentioning. O'Toole's and Murphy's (right across the street from each other) they co-hosted an amazing St. Patrick's Day bash. On the corner of Merchant St. and Nu'uanu. Just a few blocks from Aloha Tower. You aren't. I play banjo and bodhran (one sided drum made from dead goats.) Years ago we went skiing in Killington VT. There is an Irish pub at the top of the hill on the road that runs down into Killington. First night we called in there were two locals having Irish Stew. I noticed an antique Bacon & Day tenor banjo hanging over the bar. These are rare rare banjos. I asked if I could have a look at it. I plonked out a couple of tunes but the strings were dozed. The bar owner told me it had been hanging there since he bought the pub in 1988 but he would get new strings if I would set it up for him the next evening. Next evening - set it up for him. Played a few tunes. The banjo was awesome. He comped us dinner (which was excellent) and asked if I would come back the following night and play a few tunes. I'm Irish, there is a pub, there is a banjo. Of course I'd be back. Next night I taught the bar staff how to pour Guinness properly. Played for a couple of hours. There were maybe 20 people in. Next night there were around 40-50 people in and two other musicians showed up based on a rumour that there was music. One Canadian guitar player and a Mexican fiddle player. I had to call the chords for the guitar which wrecked my brain because you don't play chords on a banjo. We had a great laugh. We were there for 17 days skiing. By day 16 there was a queue to get into the pub. I hadn't paid for a pint or dinner for two weeks, the Mexican had an Irish accent and knew every tune. You aren't. I play banjo and bodhran (one sided drum made from dead goats.) Years ago we went skiing in Killington VT. There is an Irish pub at the top of the hill on the road that runs down into Killington. First night we called in there were two locals having Irish Stew. I noticed an antique Bacon & Day tenor banjo hanging over the bar. These are rare rare banjos. I asked if I could have a look at it. I plonked out a couple of tunes but the strings were dozed. The bar owner told me it had been hanging there since he bought the pub in 1988 but he would get new strings if I would set it up for him the next evening.
Next evening - set it up for him. Played a few tunes. The banjo was awesome. He comped us dinner (which was excellent) and asked if I would come back the following night and play a few tunes. I'm Irish, there is a pub, there is a banjo. Of course I'd be back.
Next night I taught the bar staff how to pour Guinness properly. Played for a couple of hours. There were maybe 20 people in.
Next night there were around 40-50 people in and two other musicians showed up based on a rumour that there was music. One Canadian guitar player and a Mexican fiddle player. I had to call the chords for the guitar which wrecked my brain because you don't play chords on a banjo. We had a great laugh.
We were there for 17 days skiing.
By day 16 there was a queue to get into the pub. I hadn't paid for a pint or dinner for two weeks, the Mexican had an Irish accent and knew every tune. Three others had joined our merry band and everyone was gutted when I said I had to go back home.

We've been in an Irish pub in Seoul, South Korea; in Johor Bahru, Malaysia; and in Hong Kong (the last is where we had the best chicken pot pie I've ever eaten anywhere in the world). In fact, wherever we travel we look for an Irish pub!

Love this song. Have often enjoyed following you to concerts. Was walking down street in New Braunfels Tx and saw upcoming concert and was able to atted. In Dubrovnik this week and low and behold there's an Irish pub in the old city!
