  • If you think of the legends that made Natal rugby the super power it became in the 90's, Tony Watson has to be top of the list. He was part of a group of players, including Craig Jameson, Wahl Bartman, Hugh-Reece Edwards and Henry Honiball that laid the foundation on which the team of the 90's was built.
He was an underrated wing, but was consistently good for Natal, scoring some real memorable tries. His most important try was scored against Northern Transvaal in the 1990 Currie Cup final at Loftus, sealing a famous win for the Banana Boys.
    Enjoy and thanks for watching!

One of the fastest wingers ever to don the Natal jersey, always exciting to watch.

Great stuff. Was in same class at Chaplin High in Zimbabwe with Tony, then met him again in Durban where his dad owned Three Monkeys Coffee Shop off Pine Street. Tony also represented Zimbabwe at sprints at Olympics. Cool dude but went to the wrong Hostel (Duthie) at Chaplin instead of Coghlan House. Cheers, Oges,.

an absolute genius with ball in hand. And Uli Schmidt remains the largest doos in history for injuring him the way he did

I can't believe you have all this old footage. As a forward he was my favourite winger in SA at the time

What a defining moment was that try against Northern Transvaal in that 1990 final .
Remember his dad Colin with a couple of ex Rhodies , Ben, Jerry etc. after games braaing outside KP .
Will treasure those memories till I drop .
