Personally it would be the supercharger. Turbo just takes some of that precious exhaust note away, plus the low down torque of a supercharger is very nice for daily driving. love the video.
Great points and will be a different answer for most 😅 both amazing
@RossReviewsau , he sounds like an LS guy that think he knows what's best, trust me I thought LS Turbos sounded nice, gosh these make the sound you want to hear, I think a Ghost cam or something lumpy would just top it off but... XR8 Turbos are the absolute go....!
I have had superchargers and turbos. Yes, turbos are faster but hell you got to love the supercharger whine and the instant torque@@Barra.The.World.
dont need nice exhasut note with a screamer!, sadly this guy doesnt have one.
Agreed
I love my N/A boss but man that turbo is goals 👌
Turbo for me was magic
This just came to mind but in some sort of universe id like to see a Mustang Voodoo V8 or Mustang Predator V8 swap in a modern Falcon. GM used Corvette V8s so why not. It would be a beastly Falcon.
be cool to see
Soooo much money needed😢
I've 2 maloos, one superchargered and one turbo. Both 500kw.
They both compliment each other can't pick between the two 😂
🤣 man that’s mental!!!
that turbo boss has to be the best sounding v8 yet nice one mate
It sounded so good man… camera didn’t do justice
Turbo sound got me hyped, mad colour, I’m always looking for the right orange and that is fu¢
Two awesome classic cars I'd own both if possible, the owners have done amazing work on their pride & joy so well done 👏& you killed it again home run Johnny thank you.
Thank you
The turbo is less linear but boy it puts a smile on you face every time, love the mighty B series.
SO DAMN FUN!
Once you go turbo, you never go back. There is nothing on this planet like the feeling of a turbo coming on boost and pushing you into the back of the seat, whilst the view outside becomes a blur. Then when you come off boost, you feel like your going to be flung through the windscreen. And the turbo noises and blow off sounds can't be replicated. Replace the V8 with a straight six or a 4 and the experience gets even more intense.
id be turbo 100%
I have the ba xr8 turbo and i love it, The dose and the flutter with the exhaust note is awesome. Great video and still turbo for me.
Both nice cars ....with different driving manners.....great review Johnny.....gotta love forced induction.....TUFGNF
Absolutely brother!!
@@RossReviewsau Mybe a Turbo set up for your new project 😉
That ute with the turbo and v8 sound is absolutely amazing luv it!
Couldn't agree more!
Nothing beats that feeling of a big turbo coming on boost 👌 super chargers are boaring in that regard, but the sound of a good v8 with Gilmore drive pulleys running a 6/71 or bigger blower is 🔥 that wine is sexy as f…
Red or white wine???
@@danielwitham1791 those are for nanas & people like you .. I’m a tequila or whiskey drinker 🤫
Agreed
Go a beer any day na v8 all the best
@@evil2rs at least the joke to spell "whine" correctly didn't go over 2 people's heads...
Ethanol is car fuel and a boring compound. Enjoy your tequila ombre. I'll enjoy my supercharger whine.
was never a fan of the blood orange color untill igot 1 2003 ba fpv pursuit ute 290 5 speed soon grew on me the color now i think its 1 of best . that turbo sound with that ute yep time to sell some parts n get a turbo kit for 290 , keep up the great work man
Amen bro! Gets my votr
Both cars sound fantastic amazing platform just costs some more coin but can’t beat that supercharger whine turbo does sound great though
It does! Both awesome 👏
Hard choice. If I had a 5.4 Boss and between Super-Charging or Turbo Charging the Engine , it would depend on the Price. Also if it was stage 1 super-charger or stage 1 turbo charger install it would depend on how much parts need to be changed. From what I heard the 5.4 boss when moding the engine don't need to change the OEM Injectors, Fuel line and Oil line.
They would be similarly priced
I owned a ba xr8
I thought the 5.4 v8 sound so good . Two awesome examples
Love both of them.
After owning a G6E Turbo and a VY V6 with a centrifugal supercharger, and driving me mate's top-mount VT V6 wagon a lot, they all have their benefits. The way the turbo comes on boost at mid RPM and surges more towards the redline is pretty addictive, and the way a top-mount charger gives you that instant shove is awesome too. But overall I think I like the centrifugal charger the best, it just has a bit of both worlds and is a nice in-betweener. It'll give you that shove off the line, but it'll surge towards the redline as well. Only problem is there's a lot of things that can go wrong with a centrifugal charger.
side mounts tend to drive similar to a turbo from my experience power comes on higher up
Great job grant the gt is looking awesome and still going strong mate. Look forward to catching up again for a cruise
He’s done very well with it!
I own a two eco cars that have a turbo and a supercharger and have driven my mates supercharged and turbocharged builds and i have to be honest, superchargers are a lot better around town becauee of the instant torque and power delivery, it makes cars with smaller engine's act like bigger engines but turbos are more fun to get on and get the boost come on and have it push you in your seat a little or a lot.
Can agree with that I think
That xr8 turbo sounds fraking unreal
Cheers man
Turbos #1. Nothing else like a big power turbo car
Sounds so good 😮💨
When in doubt, use both. 🗿
👀👏👏👏
Hi john
If you really have enjoyed driving the yellow Falcon GT
Perhaps next time you might enjoy buying one next time for your next project one day, maybe.?
Great content there today John.
From william.
Turbo for the win. What’s the turbo specs ?? And what boost you running to get the 400+KW. ?? I’m getting my mustang motor sleeved and built forged bottom end ATM , 100% want to go the single turbo direction. I was lucky enough to go in a twin turbo 750hp mustang a few months back that sealed the deal for me.
its s spool and boost kit.. not sure on size.. can't remember if he said the PSI wasn't much i think tho
Thanks man, 9psi currently
@@the_turbo_xr8
Nice man, sure is a great cruiser. What turbo is it ??
No doubt turbos are quick, but nothing beats a supercharger whine 🤤💯
I like the turbo
The tuebo lost traction at 80ks😂😂 niiioce
For me, it has to be turbo. That whistle combined with the sound of a V8...
agreeed
Both great cars and be both fun to drive but hands down the super charge V8 for me old school
that yellow GT is gorgeous
Very nice
That GT looks so good
Very nice
What a video 😮 loving the aussie muscle videos
some of the best
Got to love a b series blown v8
😈💯🇦🇺
The Turbo sounds so nice in the car, the SC better outside. But from this video if I did either to my XR8 ute itll make it quite a bit slower lol
It’s traction.. 20s don’t help and was not attempted by racecar drivers 😅
Either way it's a win for mankind
Amen🇦🇺🤌
Turbo all the way for any size engine..cant really say that about a blower.
love the turbo
Damn that ute bloke shifts quick 😂
It’s a hard pick, but I have to go with the supercharger. More linear power and predictable.
fair
Just wonderin if youve done a supercharged barra. Nice falcons thanx'
not yet but have had a few offered to review recently
why not both? as in both on one car
I’m keen to see a twin charged one
_what’s best? .. simple answer: TOP FUEL🔥😁_
sicks cars, but i cant imagine having over 400rwkw and then still getting flogged by a bone stock Golf GTI at the lights.
its a traction issue.. almost all modified AUSDM cars i review are slower than factory
0-100*
Turbo for racing supercharger for a daily fast car .
You didn't race them against each other? When you had them both there and they both were manual. A perfect comparison. What the actual fark? How is that versus? it's just your opinion. Not even a roll race?!
Was that in Jacob’s well?
Mexico 😈
Who whines louder: the supercharger or the turbo lovers? 😅 Just kidding, both brutal cars! 💪
Both so good 😈😤💯
How much $ did they spend
both set ups will easily run you 15k.. you can look up the kits.. turbo is cheaper than blower but a lot of supporting mods also
Give me that GT all day everyday
It’s very nice
Supercharger easy.. far cleaner install, less heat than that turbo setup.. that turbo would absolutely cook underhood, pipes everywhere, messy.. go supercharger.. turbo would drive better though
That could be all correct but yeh for me turbo was more fun to drive but that’s just me
@@RossReviewsau really good review. Excellent..
Honestly how can u compare a sedan to a Ute fairly ? Doesn’t make sense
easily mate it’s purely on engine sound and performance
Turbos are nice but I’d rather be blown 😅
if he didn't chicken foot and back off before the ground speed started to catch the wheel speed he'd get 100 easy as
was a poor road tbf
N/A
Niicccceee❤
Mark reciews
Another mark
Why running such low boost on the kb 2.8? Can the 5.4 not handle much more without extensive engine mods?
He said the it’s just for safety.. can’t get much more out of the BOSS without building the internals
Man, they sound so good. Its really hard to pick which one is better. Do have to admit tho, the turbo one has quite a unique note to it
both are so epic.. cant lose really
I would of said supercharger but after watching this I would say turbo
The old Boss V8’s are some of the fastest sounding, slow cars money can buy. 😎🤟 find me a 425rwkw performance car that sounds better that is slower. I’ll wait.
🤣 they ain’t quick but man I love em
Welcome to 2023 when 400+rwkw is considered slow. More than enough power for the street, even at this level traction is a huge issue, it ain't about power figures it's how it puts it down!! That ute looks like a ton of fun
@@Swwa89 power doesn’t always correlate with speed. These two cars are excellent examples of that. 20” wheels on probably crappy tyres are holding them back. A stock V6 Camry does 6.79secs. A stock Hyundai I30N DCT does it in 5.3secs. (About three car lengths ahead of these two). Ross has tested around 140odd cars and these two achieve 129th and 134th respectively. They are in the bottom 5% of cars he has tested. So they are demonstrably and statistically slow. Interestingly 8 Ford V8’s are represented in the bottom 11.
XR8 Ute manual 6.85secs
FPV GT s/c 6.88secS
FPV V8 6sp S/C 425rwkw - 6.93secs
Mitsubishi EVO 8 320kwatw - 7secs
BF GT-P - 7.0secs
2023 WRX - 7.04secs
250kwatw MPS - 7.08secs
425rwkw turbo Boss Ute 5sp - 7.38secs
BF GT - 7.65secs
XR8 Pursuit 250 - 7.66secs
AU XR8 - 8.68secs
@@MrTroytroyyou don’t have much to do obviously 😅
Definitely the turbo sounds evil man
was so good in person
Cheers man
2 epic cars! I went with the Harrop 2300 option on manual ba xr8 Ute with boss 302 engine, now on e85 with 570hp and 8 pound boost 🤟
Very nice!
@@RossReviewsau thanks mate, keep your awesome car reviews coming!
Both awsome cars. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
We agree!
Anything hsv was always better, handling, power down and definitely on race track.. Ford just never had a good handling shazi.
According to my cousin..John force...blowers
Get a Holden 😂😂
Get the gemstone butt plug out of you
VZ 👀
@RossReviewsau VZ Clubsport much nicer car... heheh
Both very nice cars but like the supercharged and six speed manual
Fair enough!
Can’t wait to work my BF XR8 💪
You'd have liked the BA GT I used to work on. Craig Haystead put the combination together and had a centrifugal blower, liquid charge cooler and retained the 5 speed manual with a triple plate clutch. It had the stock intake and I'm not sure what the engine mods were but it had great tractive effort and was planted. I did the trans for it and sorted out the blow off valves so they were covered by the stock plastics. It sounded like an air tool line blowing apart every gear change, was unique back then.
i would have :)
Great comparison to see 👍
Glad you liked it
8:58 9:00 bro no way mark again😭😭
🥸🥸
For the ute sand bags in the back.
Would help!!!
Ross come to nz review my GT-P we have so much more fun man !!
One day would love that
Supercharger for me , much more usable , I like all forms of boost tho anything giving more power is a good thing
Prob 2 of the best sounding boss v8s I’ve heard maybe apart from a mates ba xr8 with full Herrod exhaust but that turbo whistle with the v8 is so different but so amazing
i loved the noise off both
@@RossReviewsau 100% yes ey!
Its like the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke dirt bike comparison.... like a hard rush - turbo, like deep torque - supercharger.
Almost.. kinda eh
Both are awesome. Can't believe I was in year 11 when these models came out. Time flies.
It's the turbo 8 for me though
Cheers
Both way slower than they should be, manaul box would be definitely contributing to slow times, cool beasts tho.
Both on 20s losing traction and a terrible road surface really.. they would be 5 second cars easy with proper traction
how is the power with the 5 speed ya reckon? thought they was weaker
seemed to be handling this ok.. but yeh 6 spd would be prefered
@@RossReviewsau yeah happy days! Guess I can hold on to my 5 speed a bit longer haha
I used to have a turbo car and one time, I was following my friend in his V8 over a series of speedhumps. Now, my car was actually just as quick as his when we raced but after 4 speed humps, he was way, way ahead of me. That little bit of turbo lag I had was really obvious when I had to back off just when the turbo was kicking in, whereas his naturally aspirated engine was always on it.
Anyway, I haven't owned a turbo engine since. Naturally aspirated or supercharged every time for me.
Each their own I was picking it purely for sound and fun of driving
The best part of this video was the awkward handshake 😂
🤣 I kept that in just for this comment
🤣
Gotta say though, fuck your videos have improved mate. I remember you posting a video on reddit or something years ago. It was the VXR Commodore one and I gave you shit about trying to copy Doug Demuro haha. The quality from then till now has improved 100x.
