    📌Mufti Menk I respect your knowledge but there is something more to the name.
    👉Haram has 2 meanings in Arabic:
    1. Forbidden
    2. Sacred
    .
    Its like in English we use Bear (animal) and bear (tolerate)
    Eg: I saw a bear today
    I can't bear this person.
    .
    Or Pack(group of animals) pack(to seal something)
    Eg: There was a pack of wolves near the highway
    Don't forget to pack the biscuits in air tight container
    .
    Seal(animal) seal(close something)
    Eg: Seals are not seen near Beaches
    Seal this package
    .
    Close(shut down) close(near)
    Eg: Close the shop before going to mosque
    I am very close with my mother.
    .
    I hope you get the answer guys.
    Masjid-al-Haram means a Forbidden place as mentioned by Sheikh but it also means A Sacred Place

    The best explanation I have heard on why Masjidil Al Haram is called as such is from Dr Omar Ramihi and also from Quran Centric. The Quran stated that in Surah Baqarah, Masjidil Al Haram is a sanctuary and a place of security ie where every one should feel safe and secure. I find it interesting that the concept of haram (to take a human life so every one should feel safe and protected) is linked to Nabi Abrahim's intended human sacrifice (of his son) at this first House of Worship which was eventually changed to an animal sacrifice, a prohibition to take a human life overturned by Allah. It was a culture at that time for many human community to make human sacrifice (eg the Aztec, Mayan, Egyptians, Assyrians etc) and as late as Christianity where Jesus Christ was supposedly sacrificed/crucified to atone for human sins. So it was a groundbreaking event that Allah forbade (haram) a human life be taken at the first Masjid/House of God. As mentioned in the Quran, making the Haj/umrah is to witness Nabi Ibrahim's monotheism and legacy.

    Respect these places and holy places and don't do haram things like mentioned in the Quran and hadith. That's why it's called "Haram". Haram to sin willingly.

    He's right, it does sound confusing. That's because we perceive the word haram to indicate something sinful, even though we know it merely means forbidden. The places of haram are basically just places where many things are forbidden. I knew all this, but probably took me years to get it. Glad to read all the comments of people who also didn't get it for a long time, so I don't feel stupid. LoL
    Jazak Allah Khair, shaikh.

    Hi Mufti,
    I have read that Saudi Sheikhs like Sudaisi are planing to make Fatwa that allows Muslims to do Hajj and Emrah Virtually with the modern virtual reality Technology.
    Is that possible in the near future to do Umrah and Haj virtually??
    It will be really strange and new if that is allowed in Islam.
    Thank you in advance.

    Makkah and Medina are Holy not Haram

  • @user-np3cp2cb7u
    @user-np3cp2cb7u 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    haram = prohibited/prohibition.
    city(s) of haram = certain city(s) where many things that are allowed outside those cities, are totally prohibited inside the cities.
    tbh, when i think the phrase _"city of prohibitions",_ what automatically crossed my mind was Singapore.
    so i think i'll just stick with Haram when refers to Mecca and Medina.
