Discordianism is somewhere between a joke and a religion, and at the same time manages to be something else entirely: social bricolage. This presentation will cover the roots of culture jamming in early art and theatrical movements, and then move through the history of prankster groups and on to Discordianism where the pranksters are prophets.

We read, in the book 'KLF' by John Higgs that Kerry Thornley actually 'became close' with Lee Harvey Oswald when he was a Marine and before being posted to Japan.

Not wishing to "create discord", but I think you'll find "Discordianism" is actually just "Taoism in Disguise" or a humorous interpretation of the Taoist philosophy, even their "logo" is an interpretation of the Tai Chi Tu (yin/yang symbol)... of course I "maybe" wrong ;-)

Interesting presentation. Cant Discordianism be taken too far or to extremes just like all other religions/ideologies that have been distorted over thousands of years? I mean unbridled and unchecked chaos and hedonism where anything goes without any restraints, etc will always end badly. Just like the crusades were a bloody consequence of a certain viewpoint enacted. I recently viewed a presentation that eluded to the fact that Discordianism taken too far can take on the flavor of satanism and/or fascism.
This ideology seems like its missing some morality, modesty, and reverence for life. Could Discordianism be more useful as an energy or archetype employed with some skill and mindfullness at times when life becomes too stagnant, limiting and restrictive. Like a tincture or remedy, rather than a belief or ideology used exclusively? I would think that would cause a serious imbalance in our world and in ones private life.
discordianism breeds abuse in family settings. speaking from experience. spent 14 years in a discordian household as a child and it really fucked my worldview up to a schizophrenic level for a long time even after i left. i had to unlearn looking for cues and searching for connections to be made where there were none. i got the habit from my father who frequently spread pure nonsense to strangers in public like it was normal and kind of a game to see if he could get them to believe him. to this day hes quite good at making wild connections seem just possible enough to believe and he does it for fun to strangers online these days. he could make a stranger believe the end of the world was next week given enough time.
