When hiring you to do the job, they should have issued you with a permit to do your job, also outside the "boxes" or even better, they should've sent a government person with you, both as a guide but also as someone who would be able to speak with the security guards.

I was literally hired in this country by a real estate developer who could not even give me a permit to shoot their own buildings... and they wished I photograph them in a nostalgic romantic way (while running away from security)...

Nice Vid Roman, happy you put it back up, it's helpful to see your experiences in different countries and how the authorities set their rules regards to filming and photography. It can't always be plain sailing I suppose but it gives the rest of us an insight into travelling to these locations and the things we need to be aware of👌

I often use the Brenizer method to compensate the lack of angle even with people in the shot. This method is also great to create square format images. In 9:48 two shots combined could open the whole thing (btw: a great shot!). In 10:54 two wide shots combined cut in square would be awesome. It took me a while to get it and now I always use this method. It gives you more possibilities.

Invites a photographer to promote Abu Dhabi through photography, and then doesn't allow anything bar obvious pictures that all look the same because of their restrictions on photography!! Madness. Even if you personally do get some permit or guide/official to talk to security, others won't have that backup. Constantly hassling tourists who are simply taking photographs is not the way to promote any country/area of interest. That has certainly put me off travelling there. I'm not saying you can roam anywhere you like when visiting a country you have to be sensible, as should the authorities.

Photography in the middle-east is not without its problems, whether it is the blinding sun during much of the day or dust and sand in your equipment, If you were working for the Tourist board then a letter in Arabic confirming that in your back pocket would be advantageous or one of their Arabic speaking staff at trickier situations. My main problem in Saudi (much more restrictive) was the number of different police and security forces, religious, military, cultural, the National Guard etc. etc.. You have a good eye for graphic compositions. If you have not been to Istanbul then give it a go. Great lighting, people and of course, food! Enjoying your channel.

    • @snapsbyfox

The wobble comes from either ultra wide lens like 10-24 / 8-12 at anything below 14 ish.

Production, production, production. I am a former director of photography (Rolling Stone/Travel + Leisure, etc). My job was to sit with the creative directors and choose and hire photographers for the different assignments and portraits. I would never have sent you and your friends out to this location without first obtaining permission to film and also organize the schedule around the dates those locations were available. For the last two decades I've been a full-time, freelance photographer and traveled the globe shooting for clients. The first thing I would do before heading out is compile a list of locations. Contacts for those locations, opening hours for the locations and note any specific challenges those locations might present. This sort of pre-pro lets you get your head around how much time to allot at each destination and ultimately, get the pics you think you need. And any country with a semi-autocratic government presents even more challenges and something to be aware of while on assignment. In the end you got great pics so focus on that instead of the ones you think got away.
