For their safety and comfort, my cats are "allowed" to bap my dogs (I don't punish for any sign of aggression from either species, but the bapping I do nothing to discourage or redirect). They use it sparingly and similarly softly. Just a quick 'hey settle down' or 'too close/back up/I don't want to interact right now'. They have lots of vertical options for escape and space that is only theirs. It works pretty well, even my most anti-dog cat at first is now totally chill and even hangs around them/lays with them some. She's quicker to correct them, but the less dumb dog seems to understand this (and he's the one trying to interact with them almost exclusively) and approaches her very differently than he does the other unphased cat. He'll army crawl over towards her and lay his head down/look away frequently. It's actually pretty darn sweet/cute.
She was very gentle with that discipline, she's gonna set boundaries especially with kittens, she wasn't swatting to hurt but to warn and she didnt even start it 😂.

My foster pup was defensive with boundaries and when she snapped at my dogs for being extra forcefully sniffy when she had fresh bite wounds and gave the correct body and vocal language of boundaries. Mine immediately backed off and gave her space while including her in their play. Now they're all fine with each other. 🤷
